I am in west Oz, looking for an affordable place to live, and no 40+C summers. Would absolutely love to live there :)

Something seems wrong when Sydney units are only 4% cheaper than houses.
I'm guessing that's because the majority of units/apartments are in or near the CBD, while houses tend to be further out.

Situation in Australia is disgraceful, government policies looking after speculators and those who can make money in the property market. There are plenty of land, but the various tier of governments not developing these land and built enough housing. Keep driving up the price to benefit those who have properties, including the politicians.

If you want a renter's paradise, then go someplace where folks can actually build apartments without too much government or Nimbys getting in their way. Japan doesn't have the zoning laws or minimum parking requirements we in the West made a fetish in the 20th century. Hence cheap, walkable, mixed-use housing areas. Same with places like Houston (which is good, but would be even better without minimum parking).

That's not cheap rental, Tokyo and Seoul has more cheaper alternatives and their population is huge.

    $2330 / month = about $540 / week
    Still not particularly cheap.
Easier to move to another part of Australia than another country.
Even with a rental crisis, there are lots of nice units around that price in Adelaide, that are nowhere near as hotly contested as those closer to $400.

I paid $65/ week for a two bedroom house in Adelaide back in the mid 80's. It may be more than that today.

How crazy, you’d rather move to another country than move to western Sydney. There’s not a rental problem, there an better than you attitude problem. Plenty of 2 bed units in western Sydney starting at $400

if you bought something in Sydney for a $1m probably not much ... 80% would be borrowed so $800,000. $800,000 x 6% interest = $30,000. or about $576 a week vs $740 rent. that is just interest not interest + principal - still makes sense to buy over rent, which surprises me

Why are people living in Helsinki if it's so expensive? They can move to other cities and rent home much cheaper.

There's nothing cheap about those prices.. especially for such a tiny flat..😮

excuse me, I live in Helsinki and this is some total bullshit - it was nearly impossible to find an apartment when I was searching for it! If you move a few hundred kilometres outside of the city then maybe you can get something immediately...

You have to remember that if you get a salary of about 60 - 70 k€ the state takes 50% in tax and fees. It looks good on the surface 😆

Its funny that they do not mention the income tax even once. Also, they increased the vat to 25.5%.

Australian politicians work for billionaires and have NO interest in making Australian housing affordable. Until we can find politicians who AREN’T in the pocket of mining magnates and corporate gougers we’re not going to get anywhere. Dutton has promised the mining billionaire more Australian taxpayer billions in handouts and free mineral wealth.
