Most of the time, Mana Tithe is a bad card that won't do what you need it to do
but that one time in 100, you are an instant, immediate legend, a story of PURE evil.

Elder dragon Hijinks feels like I’m going to a friends house to sit and watch them play commander and I love that
Olivia’s Mana Tithe play reminds me of the time I did that with my Pod. My mono red deck counted each opponents Commanders with Red Elemental Blast, Pyroblast and Tibalt’s Trickery. I was punished for my sins but it was worth it.

Hey, so that isn't how mirage mirror works. It says until end of turn, not the beginning of the next endstep. So turning your mirror into a dragon on the end step before your turn will make it a dragon only on that end step, and when your turn rolls around, it's a mirror again. Not like it matters too much this game, you made it a dragon that made you 16 mana, but like, so you know in the future
I'm not sure but I believe Chase couldn't have used that "slow" treasure token as they have to tap and sac and if it was a creature it had summoning sickness, I believe ultimately it wouldn't have stopped her progression however
More importantly, it locked down her time sieve! As a creature it didn’t have haste, so she wouldn’t have been able to activate it! Unless she activated it In response to Magda’s ability, and they just did a cheat step I didn’t notice…
Oh no, I hope Olivia finds her Ivy deck. I was really looking forward to seeing it and comparing it to my own.
Such a fun game and lovely guests (the “I like pain” and the reactions cracked me up 😂). Imma steal ideas from both those Blue/Red(/Black) decks to make a “Let’s Rock” deck with Toggo and Silas
While I really wanted to see Brudiclad do the thing, Seeing Chase go off in such glorious fashion more than makes up for it.

Is this a legal play? I was of the understanding that if you activate any abilities during the clean up that a new clean up step begins, and wouldn’t allow the mirage mirror to pass through as a copy of a creature until the next turn.

I believe it was illegal. To work the way he intended, Mirage Mirror would have to read "Until the beginning of the next end step" not until end of turn.
But really it didn't matter much since he got 16 treasures, he could have easily afforded to pay 2 on his turn. But also Chase should have waited for Olivia's end step to sac the treasures to go fetch the dragon.

@@Dark-Pikachu1 mirage mirror wouldn't have haste but it wouldn't have summoning sickness either. Since mirage mirror was already in play for a whole turn, it does not matter if it becomes a creature. If he had just played mirage mirror and turned it into a creature it would have summoning sickness though

More like "Brutal-clad". That commander is disgusting when played right. I'm working on a Brudiclad commander deck myself, and the synergies I've been seeing have been insane!
One of my favorite cards in the deck is Mycosynth Golem. My version of the deck is heavy on artifacts and artifact creatures, so making multiple copies of Mycosynth Golem (since affinity stacks) is a great way to allow me to combo off like crazy if combined with some card draw. Encroaching Mycosynth makes this combo even better!
There is nothing better then after a great night of playing commander, then a great episode of EDH! Thanks for the laughs, the great content, and topping off my MTG filled night!

This was such a delightful episode as well. Love the banter. Awesome decks all around, but Chase's takes the cake for me.
that acronym for nft's is great! Man what a game, Chase figuring out how to kill everyone with those extra turns is impressive I know I would get lost trying to figure that stuff out. Great game though fun as always

The Mana Tithe got me. That was really good. It reminds me of one of my games where I went to play a mid-game Sol Ring, and my friend didn’t want me to have the mana so he counterspelled it, but I’m petty enough that I responded to the counterspell with Pact of Negation 😂

Chase's deck is sweet! I have a breeches/ Malcolm deck that mines crypto (treasures) and mints nfts (exiles unique cards off decks) but half the fun of piloting it is that it turns into an hour long dunking on techbros

This is the exact reason I run mana tithe in my commander deck, 99% of the time it's dead, but when it's not, it's the best counterspell in the game or at least it feels like it lol

Great show ladies... Just so that people are aware for future mirage mirror doesn't lose its copy ability at the end step it loses it at the end of turn; so copying something at the beginning of an end step doesn't keep the copy for the following turn
Damn that treasure deck, although I was surprised they unearthed Magda and such. With 23 treasures, unearth Marionette Master so you have 20 remaining and put the counters on it. Now you have 80 life to drain in increments of 4 and then spend 3 to unearth Mayhem Devil and that would have been game. Even so, great game everyone!
Chase doesn't need to understand references, they just need to be quiet, cute and eventually murder all their opponents.
I thought you needed to tap and sacrifice a treasure token as part of the cost to gain the mana. I don't think you can sacrifice the treasure tokens if they are already tapped for some other reason, ... ie. improvise
Chase was tapping them with the dragon's ability to draw cards. Magda then sacs the tapped ones for her ability. No mana being made!
If she was sacrificing them to the Magda she should have been searching for dragons or artifacts. She was using them to play spells from her hand

I will be that person (because it happened several times). Mirage mirror is not a trigger, whatever happens the effect is reset every end turn. Unless I missed something?

Omg I’m just saying, I’m turn 2 into this game and I have to say they all hit rule 38 and 39 of being an adult… Rule -38 as an adult you can eat what you want when you want Rule -39 You can eat in the shower or the bathtub….
Not lying, I had potato soup in the shower one day after work because I was so hungry… and Ramen noodles in the bathtub…. Being an adult is amazing! We can spend a fortune on magic cards or painted on cardboard LOL 😂

Second comment: Also to answer Commander Mechanic, all of the 0-cost Pacts -- Slaughter Pact, Summoner's Pact, etc. -- all have the clause, "At the beginning of your next upkeep, pay [MANA COST]. If you don't, you lose the game."
I've actually lost to being unable to pay for Summoner's Pact, the green one, before.

I like the guests’ decks a lot in this episode. I’m trying to build Ashnod the Uncaring, and they’re both using cards I’m considering. And Ancient Copper Dragon is one of my favorite cards in my collection
Chris’ deck is by far my favorite. But chase is by far my favorite player. They’re so casual and chill. 😊
Just so Commander Mechanic is aware (and anyone else, for that matter), Immortal Coil is a card that says "If you have no cards in your graveyard, you lose the game."
Which is the win-con currently in my Marneus Calgar Esper deck right now.

You can't sacrifice a Treasure token that's been animated by Cyberdrive Awakener on the same turn it enters the battlefield, because it has summoning sickness and the sacrifice ability requires {T}. It wouldn't have mattered, since she could have just sacrificed it in response to the trigger, before it's animated.
im not actually sure about that. since it is an artifact first, and is later transformed into a creature, I believe it retains the ability to tap as summoning sickness only applies to permanents that enter the battlefield as creatures.

@@marc0s158 If you ever let it turn into a creature, it cannot tap for mana that turn because all permanents have summoning sickness, only it isn’t meaningful unless they’re creatures. For example, if you use Hive of the Eye Tyrant’s activated ability to turn it into a creature, it cannot be used for mana on the turn it enters the battlefield.
The idea that “summoning sickness only applies to permanents that enter the battlefield as creatures” is incorrect. Otherwise, there would be no point for a lot of the abilities that animate stuff (e.g. Nissa Who Shakes the World, Destiny Spinner, etc.) to give the target haste.
No this is not correct. Its an artifact first. Even if entering then becoming a creature ots an artifact first. Also as stated it can be sacced before becoming a creature

Actually, every permanent gets summoning sickness. But only creatures are affected by it. So anything that becomes a creature on the turn it entered still can't tap or attack.
First trigger missed from Olivia, white spells gained life twice so missed commander trigger from arelias fury 😁 epic Boros spells getting double command triggers is way I built mine haha

I have my own Dina Soul Steeper deck, and I understand Alias' wanting to shelf that deck because it's a bit of a slow and grindy deck, but I implore you, give Dina another go if you like annoying your playgroup with ping damage. My playgroup barely tolerates Dina when I have a great life value engine set up for her to abuse😂

Awesome vid as always! The closest thing I can think of to your question about "if an opponent doesn't cast a spell on their next turn they lose the game" could be.. Casting one of the "pact" spells like intervention pact, pact of negation so on and then casting sudden substitution exchanging control of your pact spell to someone else. If they don't have the mana or perhaps aren't able to produce the correct colours for the upkeep trigger that can be a hella nasty way to get someone lol Pretty sure its a deck out there. Anywho did you decide if your gonna keep Dina? And that unearth deck was BONKERS. GGs

Sacrificing a Treasure for mana is a tap ability, so Shimmer Dragon is not as busted as showcased here.
The tapped treasures were sacrificed for Magda's ability, unless we missed them being used for mana as well.
Chase was sacrificing them to Magda and Time Sieve not for mana.
Too bad Manacurves didn't have Sundial of the Infinite, Between that and Obeka they could have kept their unearthed critters because they were in extra turn loops.
Granted if they left the loop they probably woulda lost them then.
