Use ACNL Save editor. You go to the website, put your SD card into your computer, edit your town how you want to, save it, and put the SD card back into your 3DS.

Yes! Exactly, you go somewhere instead of having a big travel bag holding a switch/switch lite, a ds is more convenient.
And yes I agree, New Horizons is good, it's pretty but it lacks so much... the older games have that charm. NH is like a pretty person with little to no personality at times (but still is good) 😂
