In symmetric games, White has the advantage, because White can always break the symmetry by making a move that Black can't copy, such as moving out the queen, but also by giving a check.

been playing for 4 months, at first I liked ruy lopez. I've started gravitating towards the Scotch, Scotch Gambit & Scandinavian. I guess the queen is why! I really like breaking the principles I've learned, it makes people panic. this video has helped out a ton! thanks
Those openings are a much better choice than the Ruy Lopez at all but the highest levels. The Ruy Lopez is unbelievably complex and you could easily spend decades trying to master it. Stick with openings that have simple plans and create structures you enjoy or feel comfortable with unless you are trying to become a professional player.

I don't like the Scandinavian but I can't find anything else for black either. I've tried pirc, which was fun but I like more direct control. Any ideas?

He really focuses on creating simple, sharp, fun repertoires that focus more on broad concepts with only a few unintuitive key moves to memorize here and there. Highly recommended.

That's not a pin, that's a skewer. (In a pin, a piece of lesser value is being attacked, with a piece of larger value behind it. A skewer is the opposite.)
Here's a weird play I like to do, and a justification because it's seen as bad practice. I'm a very simple minded person. 300 elo, and the definition of pooling all intelligence zero wisdom. I'm good at analyzing chess positions but get overwhelmed too fast. My solution is to make seemingly stupid trades to simplify the board position to help my analysis. This includes trading the queens fast. They create too many attacks and protections at once for me to process, so the sooner they're off the board the sooner I can start looking multiple moves ahead. Generally I try to lose the queens early game, play midgame without them but setting up to have my own queen in the endgame, where there's few enough pieces that queen moves are more calculatible
you might have forgot Qc2 , you get do it to prevent the bishop from controlling the diagonal while activating the queen and its a nice way that doesnt create weaknesses to defend the b2 pawn if your opponent plays Qb6
Over the past ten years I watched many of my grandmaster games in YT videos in different format and none of them has "the center game" 😂😂😂😂😂 I played this opening a lot like dozens of years ago and so does my opponents 😂😂😂😂😂 now I understand why it's because we all low level like really really low level 😂😂😂😂😂
Boooy, I am so going to use this tactics and annoy the living hell out of my opponents. I usually don't bring my queen out untill "late mid game" or so, but those days are over 😈😈😈
try the scotch out (: its fun and you'd be suprised how many people forget or dont think the queen will come out. there's lots of fun quick fire traps to grab a free piece or queen trade removing castling etc
