    Thanks for sharing
    It would be great to see a video showing the range of low cost options to be able to scan either the outside or inside of buildings
    Thanks in advance

    Modeling rectangular structures is a breeze with this new Scan Essentials plug-in. Any tips/techniques for modeling terrain and/or roadways from point cloud data using the plug-in? Perhaps integrating some Sandbox tools in SketchUp?

    this looks like it could become an essential tool very quickly. Can you cover creating terrain and natural objects from a scan, such as rock forms

    Questions, will this be available for Sketchup Pro in the future and what kind of scanner is used to scan outdoor building elements.

    Will you be able to export the skp model with point cloud models into other programs (revit, grasshopper, 3ds Max, Fusion, solidworks etc?)

    What about converting this point cloud in a textured mesh? That would be game changing for modeling and rendering process.

    how sketchup will handle so much point cloud and imagine that you have an entire heavy model to add to this? you guys are putting a Porsche motor in a Fiat uno

    can you make a tool for erase point clouds ?

      Hi nvb nbvh, currently we are not allowing the user to edit their point cloud files inside of SketchUp but we do have several other solutions where you can erase unwanted points including Trimble CloudEngine and Trimble RealWorks!

    Just bought a Mavic Mini (1). Reality Capture was just purchased by Unreal Engine, and their photo -> point cloud software is great (I tried a demo). Does this plugin accept their data format? My trial expired so I don't have a way to check.

      Scouring through both Trimble's and Reality Capture's help files, it looks like you can export both PLY and LAS file formats that would be compatible.

    When will you you put in work to fix dynamic components.. a more user friendly approach and not so laborious maybe like revit.

    Impressive! Is it possibile to export the points cloud to 3d model?

    • @SketchUp
      @SketchUp  Год назад

      Point clouds do not include any 3D geometry. You can use Scan Essentials to import and use point clouds to model geometry that can be exports.

    what sort of device do i need to scan sites

    • @SketchUp
      @SketchUp  2 месяца назад

      Depends on the size. Trimble sells very expensive scanners that create Point Clouds for large sites. SketchUp for iPad (with lidar scanner) has a new 'Scan to Design' tool which is great for interiors.

      Did you start a Studio Trial? How long ago did you do that? The best way to get help with this is to head over to our forum (forum.sketchup.com)... The RUclips comment section is a horrible place to try to troubleshoot issues...

    hi All - somehow I'm a bit obtuse right now 😉
    I would like to test this tool, and if all goes well eventually buy it. However, I can't figure out where to get it.
    I already use a SkUp-Pro subscription and assume that one can obtain Scan Essentials as a paid plugin?
    - Can Scan Essentials be purchased as a standalone software in addition to an existing SkUp-Pro subscription?
    or
    - Is Scan Essentials only possible within a SketchUp Studio-Version?
    hopefully someone can guide me where I can find this information?

    • @kbongard1

      Curious: Did you ever find an answer to this question?

    • @TheHornoxx
      @TheHornoxx Год назад +1

      @@kbongard1 Surprisingly, I have not received any reply to any of my enquiries to Trimble or SketchUp. Nor was it necessary to take up my question posted here - hmm
      However, I finally found out myself that I need to upgrade to the Sketchup Studio version which I did. This includes the "normal" SketchUp Pro as well as the activations for "ScanEssentials" which is downloaded and installed like any other plugin and also V-Ray Render (where and which version is still unclear to me).
      My first impressions so far: There is still a lot of room for improvements regarding this entire scanning thing 😉
      The effort required to generate CAD data from point clouds is incredibly complex and also slow and, even with this tool, many times higher than the old usual methods. Scanners only see what we can see. That is why scan clouds often remain incomplete despite all the care taken...
      However, I am just starting out myself and I will see where this path takes me or where I decide not to go further. So far I use external service providers for point cloud processing and one thing is already clear to me: I will be more expensive than them the first time I open such data. So my upgrade to the studio version is more a sense of this technology and its potential than an economic consideration.
