Facinating seeing the town even in 1982 ... Love local history... Live in Huddersfield work in Dean Clough Mills.. Never thought to research Halifax histort
My Grand father came from Halifax and was born in 1879. He and one of his brothers moved to London during the 1890's after there parents died to find work to help support the rest of the family. As a teenager I remember on a vist to my cousins in Halifax and visted the small cottage my Grand Father's family used to live in. I have a soft spot for Halifax because of my Yorkshire roots.
Halifax ...George Gilbert Scott who designed their tallest church was the best church designer, Charles Barry (who designed the Houses of Parliament) built the Town Hall and famous theatre designer Frank Matcham built the theatre. The spectacular Crossley and Porter's school (where my mum went) was donated to the town by Frank Crossley of Crossley carpets fame. Halifax got the best in their field. Then throw in the Piece Hall, the colossal Crossley wool mill and the indoor market ...and Halifax is a gem
Halifax town hall designed by Charles Barry who designed the Houses of Parliament, Frank Matcham built one of the FOUR theatres in the town, the tallest church was built by the lead in this field and the Post Office is stunning, throw in the Minster, indoor market, Crossley Heath Grammar School, the HUGE Dean Clough mill and the Piece Hall and the town is a gem.
Halifax town hall was designed by the same person who designed the houses of parliament. Wow, I never knew that. I feel so proud now to be an Halifax laddie haha
China is now the Britain of the past , and just as Britain though it would never end the Chinese think they have it all sown up , they have a lot to learn , effectively Japan took all of Britain's industries after ww2 because of Union anarchy , lack of modernizing , lack of increase in productivity and poor quality control and poor management , a classic case would be the Mini Minor , the product barely looked any different 20 years after it was introduced , the Morris 1100 was a brilliant car , never improved , but the Germans copied it with the Golf and look what happened , they simply made it reliable and so it would not rust to pieces before your eyes .

Very interesting.
As the local historian states.. look above eye level.
Halifax must be up there as one of the best architectural towns.

I thought this would be about the great Halifax explosion of 1917 in Nova Scotia. I guess the title would be in poor taste though.
