Do I agree with him? Hmmm. Yes I think he is describing a human folly some fall into. As a young man I remember having that knee jerk reaction: we have to save the world. 50 years later my reaction is more like: I want my children and grandchildren to have the same, or better, quality of life than me. From this perspective it becomes one of what I can control and what I can’t and the older I get the more I agree with George-trying to stop us from going extinct is pretty much out of our control. It's not just 90% Maddy, it's WAY OVER 90% of all the species that lived on the Earth are gone. Since Carlin made this video, and he mentions at that time 25 species a day disappear, the number is now around 150 species a day go extinct.

In my opinion he was greatest philosopher of my time. I used to sneak out of room in high school in the 90s to watch his HBO specials. A lot of my humor was born from watching him I believe in climate change, just not fully the man made climate change he brilliantly brought up. How in 200 years of industry are we gonna change the climate? In the 70s the "experts" said global cooling was gonna happen. Then we had the 80s and the hole in the ozone layer and acid rain was gonna kill us. Of course the 90s came and it was now call global warming and "experts" said Florida and NYC were gonna be submerged under water and into the 2000s with Al Gore movie An Inconvenient Bullshit, I mean Truth came out. Then, like the governing powers like to do, they changed the language. So now it's not not global warming anymore. It's global climate change. Those who control the language, control the people. If people read George Orwell's 1984 they'd know this.
When he says 90% of species, he's referring to creatures that have been on this planet in the millions of years life has been possible on earth. They disappeared due to environmental changes on earth that occurred naturally. None of them were our fault.
I think it's happening (not that snowy winters for a couple of decades where I live etc), but I'm not sure where we are as a factor, what's the extend of your contributions. And I'm pretty sure some people, like those you mentioned, are riding the topic in a way that enriches them and hurts national economies big time. Not a specialist, though, it's just a feeling.

99.9% of all life that has ever existed is extinct.
Happy new year 🎉eve cha cha lol
Love your reactions your laugh is nice:)))
Its true... he's not making it up about extinction.
90%, no 90% is a massive underestimate, its actually 99.9%... let that one sink in... that's how much biodiversity earth has had and lost, most naturally, and long before our time, but currently we are the leading cause.
he is absolutely right obviously. but we are intteligent enough that we can come up with solutions to benefit let ourselves survive by treating the environment better, but sadly we live in a world where greed dictates everything else. so in the end, he is right, we are fucked
Aren't all the dinosaurs gone? All of the fossilized ocean creatures? All the megafauna in north America? Most everything from a million years ago? All of mans ancestors except one?
It's not just 90% Maddy, it's WAY OVER 90% of all the species that lived on the Earth are gone. Since Carlin made this video, and he mentions at that time 25 species a day disappear, the number is now around 150 species a day go extinct.
This is my favorite Carlin bit.
Awesome reaction as always Maddy ❤
George would never want you to share in his opinion. No, that's up to you.
I wish he was alive and would run for president.
He was never that naive. In his own words "it's a big club and we ain't in it".
Taxonomy is a bit arbitrary but its really more like 98-99%
The woke folk would be going apoplectic if George were alive and still performing today.
Miss him too BTW.....
Great reaction smart man.

Oh!!! Cool breakdown ❤️
I’m all good with it. Whatever will be will be, c’est la vie.
George was a nutcase.
what a wise comment - brilliant and so argumentative strong
When he says 90% of species, he's referring to creatures that have been on this planet in the millions of years life has been possible on earth. They disappeared due to environmental changes on earth that occurred naturally. None of them were our fault.
I think it's happening (not that snowy winters for a couple of decades where I live etc), but I'm not sure where we are as a factor, what's the extend of your contributions. And I'm pretty sure some people, like those you mentioned, are riding the topic in a way that enriches them and hurts national economies big time. Not a specialist, though, it's just a feeling.
Club of Rome for one. The climate was never a constant.
