  • 765 & 1225 Side-by-side for the Huntington ‘91 NRHS Convention. From just east of Huntington until Hurricane, WV, these Vanswerigen Berks put on quite a show. This clip features In-Cab and trackside footage, plus special cameras clipped on various parts of both locomotives. Videotaped in cooperation with CSXT, Berkshire Productions had “Total” access to both trains & locomotives, an event likely never to be repeated. Sorry for the quality, but again it is recorded from my television screen with my smart phone.

    Wow one of the most awesome train videos I have ever seen! Most people don’t understand the logistics involved to get something like this organized. Very well done!

      Thank you so much, it’s probably my favorite body of work. It was definitely a team effort by many! Glad you enjoyed it. Even though I’ve been out of the video business for over 30 years, the full length video (90 min.) is still available on BluRay and DVD, thru Yard Goat Images.

    This is awesome, though I wished they could have covered the earlier part of of the trip, where 1225 and 765 passed through the old Lima Locomotive Works plant in Lima, OH... those guys on that trip said it was haunting...

      The “entire” operations are covered in the 90 minute program, including the Lima Locomotive Works segment. What you saw was just a short clip of the side-by-side running, screen shotted from my television screen. The whole program is available from Yard Goat Images on DVD and Blu-ray. 0:55 what whistle was that? It sounds like a lunkenheimer 3 chime

    • @grantgeist495
      @grantgeist495  10 месяцев назад +2

      During Huntington ‘91, NKP 765 wore it’s normal whistle, a Nathan 6-chime from NKP 2-8-4 #700. The guest whistle was a PRR T1 whistle, someday to be the whistle on the T1 Trust’s #5550. While I can not confirm, I believe 1225’s whistle might have been from a C&O Hudson or maybe it’s original Pere Marquette whistle?

    The reason for this side-by-side run of 1225 and 765 is because CSX wanted to upstage archrival Norfolk Southern, which did a similar runby using N&W 611 and 1218 the previous year, which is ironic, since Nickel Plate was acquired by N&W in the '70s...
    611 and 1218: You traitor, you should be running alongside us!
    765: So...? If it weren't for the fact that the Van Sweringen brothers died in the 1930s, and that pain in the butt ICC was around in those days, not to mention the Great Depression, my road would have been part of C&O, like PM...

      611 and 1218 did their side-by-side running during the 1987 NRHS Convention. The 1990 convention was held in St. Louis and there wasn’t any side-by-side running of the 611 and 1218 in any other event that year.

    I never realized that there would be an Epilogue to Greg Scholl's amazing “Steam in Huntington” video...but here it is. MAN!! The behind the scene's and narrative are equally amazing as well. (Too bad the quality of the video wasn't as “up-to-par”as that of Greg's, but who cares...Greg had the best-of-the-best equipment that money could buy. Oh, and it's 1991 right? Even before GO PRO). A multitude of thanks go to Grant Geist for this sharing this video with us “wanna-be's”. God bless you sir and it'd be great to see you back in the cab of 6325 again.

      Sorry about the quality on the RUclips share, it’s a “screen shot” off my television. I’ve been out of the video business for over thirty years and have no way to transfer this stuff. There’s a company called “Yard Goat Images” that has released all the Berkshire stuff on DVD and BluRay, if you want to see this stuff at a higher level, I suggest you contact them. We had expensive equipment back then too and if you want to see that quality, Yard Goat is the way to go! As far as 6325, as much as I’d like to, that’ll never happen. 765 is just fine for now.

    11:34 I love seeing Pere Marquette 1225 running at that speed! Sick and tired of seeing 1225 running so slow in tourist railroad from Owosso to Alma currently, Metra did welcome 765 on their rails to run 60 to 70 mph. I wish Metra should welcome 1225 on their rails, so we can see 1225 run in that speed like in that scene, like what the real Polar Express steam engine can do in the movie!

      No. What I posted was screen-shot off my TV screen. I sold the company in 1993 and haven’t had anything to do with it since.
      Having said that, I am aware of an effort by others to resurrect the entire line of productions soon, that may include RUclips.
