Watched again. The videos evolved significantly in the last 2+ years. The editing got a lot better in the new videos (and of course, the games are basically played without any rules errors nowadays).

Thanks, Tamás. I went through an old one from the first series the other day, and they are adorably cruder than where we are now.

Thanks, this is great! Subscribed and very interested in more videos! I see there's another one at this point already, gonna watch that right away.
I coulnd't help but notice a couple rules bits though, I hope you don't mind me pointing them out:
34:45 The Auxilia that hadn't fought here could still have done Ranged Combat with one die if they wanted to
42:18 and 57:30 The leader has to Leader Evade 1-3 spaces towards you here (his choice), and if he ends up in a space with a unit he can attach to that - he can't run across the board like that as that's not a valid direction for that evade move (every hex has to be towards their own side of the battlefield)
46:30 (and before and after) Retreats don't have to be straight away from the enemy - just towards your side of the board - so the Auxilia could've gone further to the right if it wanted
50:30 Evade had the wrong distance here, but you realised that yourself later on
52:15 The Roman Heavy Infantry had a successfull close combat here (causing the Auxilia to retreat), so they could have momentum advanced, and because of the attached Leader, could have made a bonus close combat
55:40 Adjacent Leaders don't help against banners, they need to be in the same hex for that (and lone leaders can help for bolstering morale)
1:12:50 That isn't a valid retreat move - every one of the four hexes moved for the retreat must be towards the Carthaginian edge
1:19:10 Auxilia doesn't get to do Ranged Combat after moving two hexes
1:25:45 The Heavy Infantry was supported by two friendly units and could have ignored the flag, if they wished
1:39:40 After the LC evaded and got killed, the MC couldn't momentum advance - that's not possible after an Evade even when killing the evading unit
1:42:40 That Medium Infantry had a Leader in an adjacent hex, the helmet should have hit
Sorry for the lengthy list! This video also was great to watch while I was stickering some C&C:A blocks of my own (my second set of everything, currently just got done with Light Barbarian Chariot number 42). Keep them coming!

Thanks for the feedback! Yep, many of those little details I caught in editing and made sure to point out in the next scenario. I was blowing off the dust in this one! 😄. Thanks for subscribing and the corrections! 👍

Loving these so far. I believe this battle belongs a little hugher in the playlist chronologically?

    • @PatricksTacticsTutorials
      @PatricksTacticsTutorials  11 месяцев назад

These are listed in Historical Date order by the Battle. The Greek & Eastern Kingdoms battles occurred earlier in the historical timeline, so that's why they come on the playlist before this battle of the First Punic War.

Having them in historic order instead of release date is an epic idea. I just mean that Anapus river is 18th in you playlist and dated 415BC,
Phyle is 19th and dated 404BC
Akragas is 23rd but dated 406BC. Unless I'm missing something shouldn't it be between those previous two?

Love all your videos as you two battle through the Ancients scenarios. (Enjoy the Tricorne series too.) You and Peter should consider redoing this one both as a tutorial introduction to C&C: Ancients and as an primer to the VASSAL module. With over 52 contests under your belts it would be interesting how you’d approach explaining the game in fighting this battle.
I am introducing a friend to the game and am trying to decide which video may be a the best to whet his appetite. Of course you may have an overview somewhere that I’ve missed.

Lou, thank you very much for the support and compliments. I agree that we should put together a how-to video that is more polished than when I first taught Peter how to play way back at the beginning. Great suggestion!

Very informative! You sound kinda like astronauts the way your mic noise cancels I guess, no problem though. I'm just learning to use Vassal and reacquainting myself with the rules.
    Thank you!

For solitaire play, I give myself a 5/6 chance to get a banner for eliminating a unit. Adds to the suspense. Roll a 6 on 1D6, and no banner given.

good effort, it's shame there were a lot of mistakes made in this game while teaching - eg leader evasion and leader morale bolster and combat benefit

Thanks for watching! Yes, we made a few errors in the early games. Most have been learned and corrected by now.
