    I love how your not afraid to rip into the flaws of the Zelda franchise, but at the same time you don't excessively drill in the point. *(Example exoparadigmgamer talking about the text speed in OOT & Egoraptor talking about "waiting" in OOT)*
    These reviews are overall very concise and interesting to listen to.

I keep pressuring you to finish this, but I think that's your sign that you should take your time. A delayed video is eventually good, while a rushed video is bad forever

    I couldn't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the next FOUR retros coming up. Minish cap is one I'm finishing up for the first time today and I can already tell you it's one of my favorite 2D's of the series. Twilight Princess is a game very close to my heart and has been my favorite game of all time for years. I need to play through that and BOTW again to decide which is my favorite of all time, but I'm also really looking forward to your video on it because you might open my eyes to stuff I either like or dislike about it. Phantom hourglass I'm just looking forward to you trashing it because that game has too many issues to count, its biggest sin of all being that it manages to drag down its own fucking sequel... And lastly, Spirit Tracks because it's another game very close to my heart that deserves so much more recognition than it gets. It's the only game in the franchise that I truly can't stand how underrated it is, seems like people just don't even give it a chance after the crap heap that was PH. Anyways, hope you put them up soon! (But obv spend as much time on them as you need to)

    You are so spot on about the pacing. That is really why I find myself feeling polarized about the Wind Waker. I adore the world in the game and the fluidity of the combat/items/camera. The spirit of the Wind Waker is so endlessly captivating and unique from every other Zelda game. On the other hand, the game is painfully railroaded for much of the experience, the dungeons do not reach the heights of what was found in OoT and MM, things like the Command Melody bog down the pacing even more and the lack of worthwhile collectibles makes treasure hunting largely superfluous. Going for the figurines is basically the final nail in the coffin for the pacing.
    I find I'm able to overlook these things most of the time, but they become far more egregious when you stack Wind Waker against the other Zelda games. My personal favorite is Ocarina of Time and even I will admit that there were moments during the Wind Waker where I felt I enjoyed it even more than OoT. That speaks to how high the highs can get in WW, but the problem comes with how low the lows can get. In that regard, I don't feel like it truly stacks up to a game like OoT, or even my other favorites like Link's Awakening, Link to the Past and Zelda 1. I can replay all four of those games multiple times per year whereas with Wind Waker I may go through it only once every few years. I do love the game, possibly more than Majora's Mask, but it's tough to revisit frequently.

Having to do the slow sailing for the entirety of the original game got really old really fast. The swift sail fixed that. Also, the game is easy, but I LOVE Hero mode on the HD version.That fixed the difficulty problems imo. I play this game on Hero Mode every time. Can't wait for the Twilight Princess vid! It's not the best game for replayability for sure. I used to do a lot of three heart runs but I'm not sure about it for this one. It would diminish the exploration for not being able to pick up heart pieces or pull up treasure chart treasures, and it won't help the usefulness of chu jelly and other spoils. To me, I actually say wind waker is the best zelda game. I don't think it's even that close really. The main overall reason I say that is because I feel like wind waker just has a certain charm to it that no other game can match. And that charm is the fact that it will never feel aged or dated. Take any zelda game, from zelda 1 to botw, they will all feel aged in some kind of way. Good games, but aged. Wind waker with it's unique graphics, characters, world, gameplay, whatever, it will always feel fresh and original. It's the only zelda game that seems to just get better and better as time goes on. To me, I think that's what makes the "best" zelda game.

    Well I had to sacrifice all common sense and mental sanity, but with my new and stronger phone, I was finally able to get Wind Waker a couple days ago via emulation. I am currently in the Forbidden Woods. I was scared that the game would bore me because I hate sailing in video games. I even like Phantom Hourglass and hate the sailing. But Wind Waker has proven to be the exception. I was legit upset when King of Red Lions straight up told me not to explore and go get the Farore Pearl. I love the Deku Leaf and Grappling Hook. My only issues so far are not with the game, but my hardware. My phone can choke when the area is too dense, like when Link saves Tetra on Outset. Also the controls are sometimes to close, but they don't act up too much. Probably my fault for somehow liking landscape mode where I play Wind Waker as if it were on a GBASP, but hey, I don't care. Ocarina used the "find different ways to get past an obstacle" thing, like the deku tree shows you that you can break webs by jumping on them from really high but then next thing you know there isnt a great height for you to jump from but look a switch creates fire, maybe that will work if i can burn the stick and then the web (which WW took from OoT) and then later in the first adult dungeon you have to find a way to melt ice without any deku sticks but you just got the bow and hey theres fire in the center, time for a trickshot, unless you got din's fire and put two and two together of course which gives you two options (something I dont think WW did very often). So yeah that first dungeon idea would definitely work in OoT but the rest yeah i cant really see a way for them to work except maybe the mirror shield dungeon in MM.
    But nonetheless, amazing video as always and im very excited for the next one

    love these review videos. the gamecube was my first console and i had the collectors edition of LoZ, so i also got OoT and MM on top of WW and TP. i still play them on gamecube to this day, and the only thing i really disagree with in this video is your take on the Swift sail. i do understand where you’re coming from with not getting the full experience of adventuring across the sea, but after only playing the original game, i would love to sometimes just have the option to throw it on while i’m sailing. the Winds Requiem can sometimes just give me Elegy of Emptiness vibes if i’m searching all over the place and have to change directions often.

    So the next one is Minish Cap, right? I can't wait to hear your perspective on it... I personally wasn't impressed by it. The Kinstone stuff was random, RNG stuff and considering I'm a completionist, it felt more like a chore than a legitimate risk/reward system... The dungeons were great though! Especially the fourth one - that dungeon in the sky is one of the best. And the characters were memorable, if not a little one dimensional It didn't make my top ten or anything, and my chances of replaying it are minimal. Still, your love for the series shines in every video, and I can't wait to hear you talk in depth about it.

    I used to consider Wind Waker among my favorite Zelda games. But then I realized that I have genuinely attempted to beat the game 3 times, and every single time I get so frustrated with the Triforce hunt that I just stop. Some of those playthroughs I even tried to explore during the game.
    I came to the realization that a game that has such a critical flaws that repeatedly keep me from playing all the way through can't be among the best Zeldas for me. Even if the Triforce hunt would be fun if it was paced better, the fact that it wasn't really hurts the experience for me.
    So I'll say that Wind Waker up until the end of the Wind Temple is one of my favorite Zelda games and one of my favorite games of all time.

    • @StyxTBuferd
      @StyxTBuferd 4 года назад

      Triforce hunt is still my favorite leg of the game. I think the dungeons are just okay, but the strength of the game is the ocean and all the little islands you can explore. To me that exploration really takes center during the Triforce hunt. It's a bit monotonous to get all the charts and to get the money for Tingle to decipher them, but the quest takes you to plenty of islands that end up throwing money at you anyway, so it's not nearly as difficult in my opinion as some people let on. That said I do appreciate that the HD version curbed some aspects of the hunt.

    • @iKhanKing
      @iKhanKing 4 года назад

      See while I would like the whole exploration thing, the fact that it's crammed into the latter half of the game really hurts the pacing for me.
      I love how in Breath of the Wild, I can balance story progression and exploration as I want to as soon as I beat the Great Plateau.
      It's made worse by the fact that the best dungeons are at the latter half of the game, so I'm always itching to get to them.

    • @Chyde109
      @Chyde109  4 года назад

      This is a very fair sentiment and one that is shared by many. Even I myself have replayed the game and stopped after the Wind Temple at least once or twice. In hindsight I might have wanted to say in the video that WW is honestly not one of the most replayable games in the series. I loved it my first go around, when every island was the potential for something fun, and charting every single one was endlessly enjoyable. Studying the sea chart to find the treasure and the triforce pieces and the ghost ship, these were all amazing experiences. But once you have them all in your brain, it loses a lot of the appeal. This is why I haven't touched BotW since 2017. I'm trying to empty my mind of it before I replay it to try and generate at least a portion of the original experience.

  • @CaneofWater
    @CaneofWater 4 года назад

    good review, i had thought about how ganon was weirdly human as a villain in this game but if you consider him in the past it is still too hard to sympathize with him
    also on the aspect of having to do all the dungeons before properly before exploring the sea i think the issue was that you needed a way to make the dungeons item specific but allow use of them before hand. If you had a shop system like albw but with a different restrictions like not being able to use said item in the beginning of its dungeon(say hookshot turning into longshot or the first boomerang only having 3 possible points needing an upgrade), this would of alleviated said problem but not removing the dungeons job to be item specific and possibly giving you an edge due to previous experience leaving you better at thinking of its use
    The only reason I thought the tingle quest was overkill was because its possible to miss the final wallet. Getting it myself was a weird moment because that thing was in outsets forest and I checked that shit only out of curiosity, last thing on the topic: the middle wallet me thinks needed to hold 1200 and the final no more then 2000 to make going to tingle not as much of a chore for middle wallet but something you still have to do more then once to feel like money mattered and not just stockpile to brain death.

    • @Chyde109
      @Chyde109  4 года назад

      Thank you! I don't think there needed to be anything fancy to fix this pacing problem, they just needed to allow access to both Wind and Earth Temple instead of one after the other. There's nothing I can think of in Earth temple that would be broken by having the hookshot. Or, just move the triforce charts so that they don't require the hookshot.

    You honestly might be the first reviewer I've heard speak poorly of the Swift Sail in the HD release. Though I can appreciate what you're saying about it undermining the intention behind the sea.
    So I have to ask, how do you feel about the wind direction automatically changing with the Swift Sail? In the original, I don't mind the slower speed, but have to pull out the Wind Waker every time I need to adjust my direction was always annoying. And if I ever overshot a destination, I felt punished.

    All due respect and all, what exactly did having to play the winds requiem add to Wind Waker again? To me it's just kinda clunky design and I greatly appreciate that WWHD lets me explore around without having to play it every time I wanna turn left or right. I can get behind your point about rupees somewhat but I'd argue that WW to begin with tried to make rupees more useful in an ironfisted/grindy way, seeing how you aren't worrying about them all that much until the end of the game. I get your point about OG WW and how the point of it was to slowly take in the scope of adventure and all but in some areas it paid off, and others it didn't imo
