    Welcome to Our French Chateau!
We are Amanda and Lincoln. With our two daughters and pets in tow, we moved across the world from our home in San Francisco California to buy and restore a petite chateau on 40 acres in the beautiful French countryside of Brittany.
Our channel documents our triumphs and failures in restoring the 19th-century Chateau de Lingourdy. We plan to return the gardens, cottages and barns to their former glory. So if you're interested in observing daily life through the eyes of an American family whose French language skills are quite lacking and who have amassed a menagerie that includes cats, dogs, and donkeys. Another lovely vlog. Adding to the terminology: A frieze goes around a wall. The stuff on the ceiling would be moldings. The thing across the top of the curtain rods is called a cornice box or also a pelmet. In my experience a cornice box often has a small fabric piece called a valance attached to it, and a pelmet is often upholstered. Both help stop convection currents along the height of your windows, keeping the cold air trapped between the curtain and glass and stopping it from moving. Hang in there -- maybe the salon can wait while you spend the summer outdoors?

So happy to see the rescued dog. My mom had 7 rescues when I moved back home to take care of her. She had fallen and broken bones so I stayed until she was mobile again. People (idiots ) drive through the rural areas and throw out their dogs when the don’t want to take care of them any longer. To blazes with such bad people. We, too, have the yellow mustard plants in our pastures. I think they are beautiful but they are a blight on the farmer and they are caused by acid soil. The soil becomes acid from donkey and cattle and horse poop and their is an answer to the yellow plant blight and it involves having lime spread on your pastures. The lime neutralizes the acid and the yellow plants go away and are replaced by healthy grass that the livestock can safely eat. My step-dad managed a farmers Co-Op for 40 years so I am fairly sure of my intel. You need to contact a farmers supply and have them spread lime on your pastures. God bless your efforts. Wade in Rosa, AL, USA.

Great job getting the weight down on the donkeys so they don't get laminitis. If they get it you have even bigger management problem and it can be extremely painful for them and even life threatening. They look nice and trim and fantastic in their summer coats. For exercise, If they are competitive enough, between the two of them, you can set up a game where you place fruit, or whatever low calorie treat they can't resist and place it super far apart and they will run around trying to find them. Better yet, have them watch you do it while keeping them separate, so they get super excited and they will run from treat to treat. I only know that trick with fat ponies but I am sure they would do it too. We used to just throw apples down the field and they would go crazy running around trying to find them.

One chunk or small project at a time. It has kept me from getting overwhelmed at work and at home! Brava!!! You have got this 🎉
Wisteria is a curse on man. It may be beautiful while blooming, but is a ongoing battle throughout the year. Good luck and be prepared for constant management.
Mine ran underground into the neighbors yard. I battled the stumps and shoots for years to keep it from returning. Personally, I hate it and English Ivy. The only thing I’ll work that hard on is climbing roses. 💕😮

If I may suggest watching Chateau De la Ferte with Adrian and Carole. Carole just redid her Grand Salon and found a product to gently strip her plaster ceiling pieces. She pretty much stripped the whole room to remove all the layers of paint on the plaster. It worked fantastically and easily. She also reproduced missing pieces and patched cracks. They are in France too... somewhere. But you two may be close enough to discuss plaster ideas? Cheers and keep up the good work.

Maybe Carol has good ideas and good products for working, maybe she works hard and well… but when you remember what the former and old moulding was in the Salon and you now see by what she replaced them in some part of the room ; and overall, when you see all this white and shiny fabric on the wall and all this fake gold leaf she applied everywhere in what is (don't forget it) just a small countryside château, well, you can also think she has a very questionable taste 😂 A bit of subtlety, elegance and discretion would not be too much, far from it 😂

How do you not get a neck ache working on the ceiling? Maybe that’s one reason why you’re doing sections around the room?
So sweet the little dog you rescued, you have a big heart! ♥️

Look at you guys go! Do you ever order in after these long physical days? Can you order in at your chateau? Being a chef, is ordering in a cause for disappointment?
That dog was so sweet. Hope he wasn't abandoned but if he was, he'd be very lucky to come live with you.

I wish we could order in! Chinese or pizza would be amazing...

You need a chipper to dispose of those branches, I know what you mean about team effort. I live on a farm and work part time, getting help is like pulling teeth.

Absolutely love your sense of humor. It even shows in your choice of pool floats! Can't wait for your next video. Thanks for the entertainment. Please show us more of your excursions out to local areas, perhaps restaurants?
