  • Today me and mum finally get to explore the lost and forgotten Newport canal which ran from Norbury Junction on the Shropshire Union to Wappenshall Junction where it joined the Shrewsbury Canal. Built-in 1835 with the purpose of linking the Shrewsbury canal to the rest of the canal network, it was abandoned in 1944. We explore abandoned locks, bridges, aqueducts and even visit a surviving stretch of the Newport canal.
Check out our new Interactive map, where you can see our journey so far on the canal network and click to watch on each cruise we've been on, and know exactly where we were.

Great video. I grew up in Newport and was lucky enough to have the canal as my childhood playground. Particularly the section west of the town bridge. I am so please that plans are afoot to preserve the very valuable history that is such a huge part of our social a d economic growth. Thank you for showing me parts of the Newport branch of the canal that I've never accessed.

For me, this has been your most interesting video so far. I never even knew it was there. Great field research and a special hat's off to your Mum for fighting her way through all the undergrowth.

What an amazing insight. I've always been intrigued as to what remnants of the canal were left!

Lovely walk where you could along the Newport canal. It would lovely if they restored it. They're either on private land or built over like the ones in the south.

I know it would be great if all the old canals were restored and we could cruise Olive.

Great to see you and your Mum spending quality time together exploring the old canal network. Been watching your channel for a while now and love the unedited family relationship you guys have. From a fellow Taylor to a Taylor. Keep up the vlogs, and don't change anything about the content other than more more more.

Thanks Glyn what a lovely comment. Josh and I do have a good relationship we must get on well as we are always going on long 4 to 5 mile walks most days to keep fit and lose weight. It would be lovely if Andy could join us but he has bad knees. Josh is starting to put 3 vlogs a week again so hopefully you enjoy 😉

That was quite wonderful to see, thanks for taking us to see it. It's amazing and sad what was there and all of the history that is now covered up. Your drone shots are fantastic and it's interesting that even in places where the canal is filled in, you can still make out the outline.
I understand that it is nice to use the tripod part of the time while you're talking and it can be effective. However, it is then necessary to remember to continue to face the camera, speak more loudly and especially to not turn your back to look at what you're telling us about because we can't hear you well at all. The other thing is that when you're standing at a certain point telling us about something , like the aqueducts, could you please pan the camera around and show them to us? It is kind of strange otherwise. It's the same thing when you're on the boat and mention something you're going by but don't turn the camera to show us. That being said, it's still a great vlog, thank you.
