I am trying to keep track of broods, number of keets in a brood and also death rate. I think it is important for people to realize that the survival rate of guinea fowls are extremely low. They see broods of 30 and think to themselves that there are so many already we don't need this. Little do they know that of about 100 keets in the 'wild' you are lucky if 15 make it to adulthood.
I am trying to allocate the deaths to a brood judged by their size, but I am completely off.
Guinea fowl babies can fly strong from 4 weeks up. All those going to roost in the tree are also taken over the wall to start walking and then I loose sight and count of them. In the next video I realized with a huge shock that 50 babies disappeared from under my nose without me even realizing it. The best I can do now is to try and take stock in the late afternoon when they come to eat and the numbers do not look good. Other sizes are also popping up that must be from the creek's broods.
This breeding season all in all turned into a bit of a mess.

These guinea fowls are so wonderful, When they are lost so young it's a very sad feeling, it gives you that feeling of helplessness. But life goes on and these wonderful birds delight you with their cuteness. Beautiful video❤I see a deer (but maybe it's a fox 🙂)

Then you hear the desperate little calls. The parents can't always successfully get them out of there especially when they are weak. It just breaks my heart 😢
