    This is really fun since I rediscovered some Blues Saraceno's music (Hair Pick, Plaid,…) for two or three weeks now and it's full of licks around this dominant pentatonic! I like very much the sonority of it! Glad you chose that for a lesson. 👍🤘

    Best part of the video is when you blend it with the major pentatonic, then it all comes to life :D I kind of "discovered" the dominant pentatonic myself, but this video is a step ahead of that and I'm sure it's going to be very useful!

    That's the sound i loved in one the Mr Fastfinger flash game. After all these years now i know it wasn't really the Mixolydian....it was precisely this Penta scale. Thank you for solving this mystery :)))))

    Super helpful thanks! What you said about not getting lost into 7 note diatonic scalar mode-Landia and sticking with creative pentatonic shapes, I needed to hear. Started practicing pentatonic scale shapes building on the root, 3rd, 5th and 7th chord voicings, which just felt soooo much more fun and musical inherently in the pentatonic patterns vs chocking through the 7 note scale/mode. Any recommendations for scale shapes building on the 7th scale degree of the chord as the ‘root’ of the scale?

    I thought the dominant pentatonic is 1 3 5 b7 9.
    It would be great to see more on modal pentatonics and altered pentatonics. Great channel!

      The name doesn’t really matter. In the intervals youve mentioned compared to his, I believe he plays a 4th instead of a 9th or 2nd. Of course you can play both or just straight mixolydian. Hope this helped!

      It would also take a serious amount of time man! Unfortunately these free lessons already take quite a bit of time to produce. I get that some people only want ‘tabs’ these days, but a lot of the time that means they maybe aren’t paying attention to the actual important teaching parts. I have done them on special occasions in the past though if you look back! ☺️ If people want tabs and want to support me, they can always buy the lesson packages from my website! 🤟

    This is great! Always thought of this as a MAJ pentatonic with a b7 instead of the MAJ 6, which can get very country. Would like to see your analysis of this as a Lydian penta or Dorian penta. 😊

    This is a very good sound to use easily in an extended (diagonal) pattern. I use it a lot, but as other people have said, I thought that dominant pentatonic is 1 2 3 5 b7, that is, a 9 dominant chord (replacing 2 for 9). This is too a very common pentatonic scale to earn a jazzy sound. Sorry for my english 😅

    • @JackGardiner
      @JackGardiner  4 года назад +2

      No need to apologise man - your English is perfect! I mentioned this exact interval structure at the end of the video - some people may view a ‘dominant pentatonic’ the same as you say. Either could be considered a ‘dominant pentatonic’ I guess ☺️

    The typical Dream Theater "Ouverture 1928" solo thing, which I've always loved. :) Some years ago, I began to learn "all" pentatonics of "all" modes. But this would be 35 x 12 pentatonics. Five shapes per mode in 12 different keys. And that's ridiculous. So I stopped thinking like that. But you can essentially make everything a pentatonic.

  • @troysmithfr
    @troysmithfr 4 года назад

    That's technically a Gadd9 chord due to the absence of the seventh at 3:26, but good stuff nonetheless, Jack!

  • @computerscientist5953

    wait, so the only difference between this scale and a regular minor pentatonic is sharp 3rd?

    • @computerscientist5953

      nvm, you literally just said it in the video. lol

    • @mikeg9b
      @mikeg9b 4 года назад

      This scale has a major 3rd. The minor pentatonic has a minor 3rd. But what you said is basically correct. 4:42

    Hi Jack, some people label it as mixolydian pentatonic, can we call that as well? Can you share your opinion? Thanks

    • @A7XAvA
      @A7XAvA 4 года назад

      I guess that its because the mixolydian mode is the one that highlights a dominant 7th chord (M3, m7 as the dominant sound).
