While queuing up to get into the Stretford End for this game a 13 year old me had a police horse take a fancy to my red and white silky scarf by trying to eat it. I remember this game as being one of the best atmospheres I had been to by then. My 52 year old auntie had volunteered to take me by bus, across the Pennines from Halifax. I was so embarrassed by the language she had to hear during that game! Thank you and rip Auntie Margaret, you made a young boy very happy that day ❤
1977 one of the happiest days of my life watching utd win the fa cup as a 11yr old school boy after the yr befores heartbreaking loss to Southampton, winning in 77 meant we stopped THEM from winning the treble, im 58yrs now & was lucky enough to have hospitality tickets last xmas against forest, met Alex Stepney that night & thanked him very much... Stuart Pearson was also in the no 7 suite but didnt get a chance to thank him too but still what memories.....
Classic Utd. Videos, Thanks for this superb game from Old Trafford. Terrific performances from both teams and result could have been different had either side converted chances missed. Jimmy Greenhoff, Alec Stepney and Gordon Hill all superb for United as were John Gidman, John Burridge and Brian Little for Villa. Congratulations on this great channel!
Remember recording this on an audio tape of the tv that night and playing it back over again and again ( I was only 12 ). Pity we didn’t have a vcr back then.
I think if he had scored we would still be seeing that goal now! I probably did see it back then but was too young to remember. My second season as a united supporter🙂
That was a great cup tie. Villa were a tough side to beat and even with key players out, they gave us a game. It was a mob scene in the Stretty when Lou got the winner. I was about half way down on the left side and got the wind knocked out of me.
United started well that season and were top of the league in early October. Then Buchan got injured and they couldn't function without him. He came back in mid-December and, of the 21 league and cup matches between Christmas and mid-April, United W 16 D 3 L 2. By then they were in the FA Cup semis and they threw three or four of the remaining league matches before winning at Wembley.
Ooft, ball looked well over the goal line before the cross for Macari's goal! Ah well. Hard not to get goose bumps watching the big games from this era.
5 years later Villa would be the kings of Europe. It will be another 50 years for Utd the way that club has been operated by the fuckin' Glazers and Woodward. Honestly, that leveraged purchase should never have been allowed. Now Burnley have owners doing the same thing and it will bury that club. Disgraceful is what it is.
Coppell, Hill, Jimmy Greenhoff, Such a great attacking side, so many fond memories.

16:26 ... I hadn't seen that extraordinary piece of skill from Hill in almost 44 years. :-D

He was a great player. Unbelievable that United let him go when they did.
It was that good it got Motty's voice all wobbly..
A real quality to this game

When the FA Cup meant something
I think we got lucky here as Villa were coming off the back of the League cup final replays marathon and were knackered.
Liverpool were even luckier.. against Everton in the semis in that year - a terrible refereeing decision saved them
Team strategy/tactics: Just hit it hard..anywhere
Future United Cup winner, John Gidman, on the losing side in this game. Great United side.
Good contest - this was a handy Villa side.
Brian Little walks on water! What a screamer giving Stepney no chance…
If a, Gray had played that night it would have been a different score line.
Great upload but is there any chance of making the picture wider?
RIP Albert Quixall.

Why so few injuries in those days? Pitches weren’t great, tackles were heavier.
martin buchan
United's 'keeper was pants.
He had always been pants.
Stepney wasn’t pants he was decent enough
@@redflag8970 Decent enough? Not good then.
@@EvoGoody not pants that’s for dure
@@redflag8970 He was pants in this game. And even though you're defending him, the best you can call him is decent!
It was 1978
