"cannot meet the requirements" is code for "the competition has become toxic and we don't want to be associated with it". Whichever Swiss city takes it on, they will be taking a big risk - Malmö's image suffered greatly this year. There is little reason to suspect that next year will be any better given the direction that the current organising committee have chosen to go in. In my view, the best hope for Eurovision is if several countries, not only the Netherlands, refuse to take part until serious changes are implemented. As someone who has been an avid watcher for nearly 50 years, next year will be the first contest I personally choose to boycott if it goes ahead under the current management and conditions. It really makes me sad that I now need to put the EBU in the same box as countries like Russia, Qatar and China when it comes to watching major events. A sign of the times, I fear.
