@@BartonSnooker I've made a very nice improvement already today thanks to your analogy of feathering getting a feel for the shot. I never really understood what that meant all these years. I thought it means just cueing for the delivery. But when you said about the way you'd chuck a piece of paper in bin I totally understood what feathering actually meant, and today I feathered in that same way and I'm really pleased with the instant improvement and also it helps me understand why all the pros naturally inflict a front pause it's because when you feather for the preparation of the shot you will naturally want to pause anyway just to get the exact idea of execution and cue ball control and where you want to hit on the cue ball as a final check. Where as all the time I didn't understand why I was feathering and I never ever put in a front pause. But just your explanation has made me feather and know why I'm feathering and feeling the shot properly and I'm actually happy to put in a new front pause with ease and control. :D

@@amarsbarr that's great to hear thank you. The feathers are very important, but I think a lot of players don't actually realise exactly what they're for.

I always visualize the line of aim as well as distance from the ball before I set my body for the shot. Many years ago when my skill level wasn't quite what it is today, I would get down on my shot and shuffle my feet around until I was comfortable with where my body was in relation the line of aim and distance from the cue ball. Quite often people would comment and even chuckle when they watched me shuffle my feet around, but as I was usually the best player in the bar they had to admit that there could be something to it. I do not shuffle my feet now but back then I realized the importance of keeping my cue the exact same distance from my body and the exact same distance to he cue ball on every shot and replicating this perfectly each time if I wanted to increase my shot making percentage. It doesn't take very much at all to miss a shot, the most miniscule error in the stance or stroke and the ball won't be pocketed. This video is top of the line instruction. What he is explaining is ultra critical for anyone that wishes to play as well as they can.

I have played snooker for couple of years and still find that the line of aim and the walk in is very useful for consistent potting. During those days when I was not in perfect form where I kept missing easy shots, I found that I was in an incorrect standing position in a way that I was not facing parallel to the line of aim. Having this theory in mind really helps me lot to make adjustment quickly!

Also I wanted to add what I do in my routine to see if you agree. Once I have identified the line I use my right heel and my bridge hand as anchor points on that line. What I mean is that if my heel is on the line and my bridge is positioned so the channel in my thumb is on the line as I bring my cue next to my right hip and connect it to my bridge I am anchored in. I then make absolutely certain I cue straight along that line (even when sometimes it looks wrong - probably due to the low down aspect ratio). The ball almost always goes in. Sometimes to my surprise (aspect ratio). Thoughts?

I find in my own game that standing on the line of aim is vital. Recently I also started using the ghost ball theory, imagine where the white
ball needs to be on object ball to pot the ball. That surely has increased my potting

    Hello Sir,
I have been watching your videos for the last 2 months and i really like the way you explain the basics. One thing i wanted to ask is if we stand on the line of cue ball then sometimes it shows correct measurement of potting angel of the object ball as i think. If my judgement is right then please reply it.
One more thing i wanted to ask is we should stand on the line of aim of object ball or we should match both cue ball and the angel of the object ball ?
As i had seen Ronnie he stands on the line of cue ball mostly.
    Thanking You

Hey Barton, just a little thing I discovered. I tried very hard to play the game like in the books abd throw the old habbits out.
I was having lots of problems, even though I visioned the shot correctly, i cued straight, trying different head position and all. I found out the problem was the stance, e eryone talks about right foot on the line of shot, but my problem was that my hip got into the way. the solution a slight lean to left and there is enough room for my cue. Very simple but crucial.

The only way to be on the line with your right leg and eyes at the same time is to lean towards the line of the shot. Barton please share Your thoughts on that

How doe my height effects the stance ?
Just the same stance but bending my knee?

When we walk in do we walk in first then turn the upper body or turn the heap
Or first turn like neil and kyron then walk in
As I walk in I tend to turn my body at the same time while walkin , as soon as I lift the right foot to plant it the body turn starts and by the time I put the left foot, my body has turned , and I down on to the shot
This Is very important for me because somehow due to body turn at the wrong time , I am planting the right foot (leading leg) to the left of the line of aim and when I am down it seems I am leaning to the right

Should you stand behind the line of where the cue ball is going to hit the object ball, or should you stand behind the line where the cue ball hits the object ball directly in the middle

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  5 лет назад +1

The line of aim is the line that the cue ball is going to travel along. You want to see where you want your cue ball to end up on the object ball, and then stand behind the line that shows your cue ball hitting the imaginary or 'ghost ball' full in the face.

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Steve.
It's an issue some players have with not rotating their upper body enough. What you what to achieve is your shoulders being one behind the other, and NOT next to each other when you're down on the shot. One of things you need to do is get your bridge arm shoulder tucked right up against the side of your chin. Your front shoulder needs to point more towards the line of the shot. It's a strange thing to do when you're not used to it, but this is what you'll give you that more conventional setup.
If you can, get a mirror and play around with it at home so that you can see what you're trying to achieve while you watch your own setup.
Hope that helps. Good luck 🙂

I can stand inline with the black ball and pick out the point I want to hit. But the problem is being able to maintain that target point while moving to be inline with the cue ball and beginning the walk and then hitting that point. Or being able to pick out that target point while standing inline with the cue ball. It doesn't matter how good your walk in is or your cue action if you are unable to pick the correct target point on the black.

Hi. It is just because then I can have the 'Line Of Aim' going right through the middle of my body. This means my head can be on the Line of Aim, but my right foot would need to be very slightly to the right of the line.
Consistency is what is important here. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you do the same thing on every single shot.

Over the last few weeks I have stuck to a routine and way of cueing (very similar to the prevailing expert opinions) and I am seeing consistency. Hi Steve, this is one aspect of snooker I disagree with with most coaches who say it's about where you position your feet. It's your eyes that lead and your feet follow where your eyes naturally see the line. My vision line is just off the line, and then I get drop down onto the line. In my opinion some coaches explain it the wrong way around and emphasise too much on where your feet should go and not what your eyes are seeing first. The eyes, then feet...

You're absolutely right, Chris. As long as you get the cue on the line-of-aim consistently, and you do the same thing on every single shot, you will be fine.
The problem comes when people are inconsistent, and their feet are quite a long way away from the line-of-aim. You're fighting against your body then. Your foot is miles away, and you're putting your upper body somewhere else.
If your foot is 1cm to the right of the line-of-aim, and it is on EVERY shot, that almost certainly won't be the cause of you missing shots.

Hi Steve, I agree - too a point - I don't personally think it's a big issue where you put your feet as long as the stance is comfortable and you can see the potting line or angle. Having said that, I would say the majority of people who miss pots, (myself included) is down to poor cueing rather than bad aiming...Cueing is something I've been working on in the past weeks and it's significantly improved my game. I think a lot of people overlook that part of the technique!

@@chrisgaynor8348 that's right! Just get yourself a nice solid base, and then do that on every single shot... Consistency is what we want.

Correct - the foot does not need to be on the line of aim... but the vision centre does! Feet follow eyes not vice versa!

don't think position. think how the stroke should feel

@@abhinavmane60 Remember, the brain has two parts. The left and the right. The left side does the thinking. The right does the execution. It's like when you drive and you get home and you don't even know how you got home because you were wandering during the trip. The right side of your brain allowed you to drive while the left brain was doing the wandering . Do thinking while you are up. When you go down, you should already know what to execute . NEVER look at where the cue ball should end up when you are down. Concentrate on the cue ball , the tip and the stroke.

      Hello!
When people are taller, the things I advise, is to have a wider stance than normal so that you can get a bit lower to the shot. You can also then have a slight bend in your right leg (for a right handed player), so that it takes a bit of strain off the leg, and again, just also allows you to get a little bit lower down on the shot.
      Hope that helps 🙂
