Each individual has a multi-octave range, so they can cover each other seamlessly. For instance, the 1st singer (Chance, baritone) covers for the last singer (Tim, bass) while he sings his solo. When he's done, they both go back to their respective parts. The tenors do the same. Both, baritone and bass guys, can sing tenor with ease as well. The beatboxer/vocal percussionist, is a human drum kit and can switch up his beats for whatever the song calls for. There's very little percussion sounds he can't do, and more. Sometimes they do layer their vocals for the studio track for the optimum sound, but when they perform live, it's all worked so they sound pretty much the same. Usually exactly the same. It depends on the song. So far, they've used a looper for only 2 songs, live.
People don't pay attention to When Ring Of Fire came out that features Avi from PTX. Avi was still with PTX at that time. He was only featured in that song, so no, he did not quit PTX to join HF. He quit PTX to go solo.
The HF name came from an original HF founder's (no longer with them) grandfather's boat who fronted them some cash to get started in 2000. It was a way to show appreciation. So they're named after a boat.
I think that covered all your questions. 😊 Great reaction! Loved it! I hope you do more. Their entire catalogue is incredible!

Actually the comments on why Avi left Pentatonix and people not paying attention to Ring of Fire are not accurate. Avi announced with the rest of Pentatonix sitting with him on camera the reasons for his quitting. It was a quite unusual move for a band or individual member to do. ruclips.net/video/jCpg_GM6_l0/видео.html
And Chris Rupp did a reaction video to Ring of Fire ft. Avi Kaplan after Chris left the band. ruclips.net/video/rFdnzwkcD_c/видео.html The collaboration was after Homefree had been on the Sing-Off. Collabs usually raise the visibility of both groups. Avi did a collab with Peter Hollens as well around this time for his first L.P. release "Legendary Vocals" of Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair.
People are fans of both bands and Voiceplay as well. The basses in particular. Tim has sung with Voiceplay a few times and both bands collaborated on Hillbillies vs Zombies.
Bass singers in acappella bands are covered by the baritone when they sing lead in acappella groups. Chris Rupp discusses that in his review of Pentatonix performance of Hallelujah and how they do it live and in studio recordings.

Yes, they did the video during lockdown. In my opinion Home Free always puts a lot of thought into their videos. To me this song is all about nostalgia about the loss of innocence in American culture as reflected through American pop music. To reflect this in the video they were show in memory/shadow boxes with other pictures, clips and memorabilia. The name Home Free came from one of the member's grandfathers, he had a boat of the same name and he was big supporter of the group.

Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole 😉. Thanks for this! Tim Foust is Home Free’s Bassman; Avi was only featured on Ring of Fire 🔥 Founder of Home Free is beatboxer Adam Rupp’s; Austin Brown is the Hi tenor; Rob Lundquist Tenor; Adam Chance is the baritone. They all have as amazing range 4-6 octaves. Adam Rupp does sing (tenor) when no beatboxing is required for the song.

Home Free doesn't have a single lead singer. They actually do "tryouts" to decide who sounds best for the parts. And they truly have the ability for someone to cover each other's vocal parts. Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, is the one constant, although every member of Home Free can beatbox a bit. Check out the live version of 9 to 5 to see that. One of Adam's nicknames is The Freak of Nature, and the more you watch and listen, you'll see why. These guys cover every genre with equal skill. They are simply amazing. The Home Free rabbit hole is deep and diverse and I've not found a single song that I didn't like. Have fun with this group. Great reaction!

They're in boxes because they have been recording in their homes across America and then their sound engineer merges the parts in the studio. Don has an amazing voice for a man who is 75. (This is the 50th anniversary of the song, and they released it on Feb. 3 -- "the day the music died.") Other artists have suffered due to COVID...and you'd think the heaviest toll would be on a cappella groups who specialize in close harmonies. HF has gotten BETTER during COVID! Like you, I always enjoy one generation passing the torch to the next. With that in mind, check out their collaboration with The Oak Ridge Boys...doing The Oaks' 1965 original hit "Elvira."

Regarding American Pie, Adam Rupp did the entire beatboxing throughout entire song, while the others took turns with their leads. Adam is known as the human drum kit and has large repertoire of various musical instrument sounds he also adds for a fuller and richer background.

Adam (the beat boxer) did his track in one take. Because the song is so long and he went straight from going hard with the vocal percussion straight into harmonizing at the end of the song someone said he was so light headed he almost passed out. Adam Rupp is phenomenal. You should hear his harmonica (no-monica)

Don sounded great for 75! Home Free and Adam, the beatboxer, killed this. Home Free won the NBC show the Sing Off a year after Pentatonix won. They sing a lot of covers but also write and sing their own stuff. Tim Foust is an amazing bass. He has a 5 octave range so he was doing the bass you heard but sang more tenor in his solo (he’s the last solo). They have incredible harmonies and their covers are often better than the originals I think (maybe because they have 4 singers). Try Helplessly Hoping, Country Roads, End of the Road, How Great Thou Art to hear great harmonies. Avi Kaplan has been in one video of theirs (Ring of Fire) but went solo after he left Pentatonix. Good reaction.

The first singer was Chance, the second singer was Austin, the third was Rob, the fourth was Tim (the bass) and the beatboxer is Adam. At the end of this video, the beatboxer was harmonizing with them. He does when there is no beatboxing and also Tim and Rob sometimes add some beatboxing to their songs in places, but you are right all of them can do fill-in sounds to make the song sound full and it's amazing how well they work together and sound so good.

Avi guested on one of Home Free's songs while he was still in Pentatonix, and he and Home Free bass singer Tim Foust are good friends, but Avi did not leave Pentatonix for Home Free. Initially he formed the group Avriel & The Sequoias while he was still with PTX as a side project. They did one album together, then Avi left PTX right after that, but initially he left the music business altogether. After about a year away, he came back as a solo artist and has done some phenomenal solo stuff. He was never a member of Home Free. I don't know if you're aware of this, but Home Free won the Sing Off the season after Pentatonix did. The members of both groups are friendly with each other.

American Pie is about a plane crash that happened Feb.3 1959,
When Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper, were returning from a performing at a concert and all died. They were the big rock n roll singers of the day. It was always referred to the day the music died.

A lot of people have tried to attribute various meaning to American Pie. Don McClean has never told anyone about any meaning, so anyone saying they know is pure speculation.
They won 3 awards for this video. I grew up on this song. Avi didn't join Home Free, he just collaborated with them.
The beauty of this group is that they can back up each other. Tim (bass) and chance (baritone) trade off the bass line. Austin (high tenor) and Rob (Lead Tenor) back up each other on the tenor lines. Everyone can beatbox to an extent. Not to the level of Adam, but they're pretty good.

This is a newer video...so in this one, Chance, the Baritone, takes over the bass when Tim Foust sings lead. They can all cover multiple parts and can take over basic beat boxing, or assist, when needed. Super talented group of guys here. Tim and Adam make a 1, 2 bass/percussion punch that is hard to surpass. Avi and Kevin of PTX is another duo that is fabulous..as you know Avi left for personal reasons, and Matt has now replaced him and is no slouch in his own right. Avi is friends with home free, he collaborated with them on Ring of Fire, and appears as a cameo in "Champage taste on a beer budget"...but he was never part of Home Free. Tim has worked with Avi and Geoff from Voiceplay to help them develop their low, low singing. Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, and his brother Chris Rupp, who is no longer with the group, founded Home Free...Adams beatboxing sounds are sooo realistic and he does much more than basic beatboxing as you can tell by the other background noises you hear. There are videos of Adam doing a drum solo during their concerts...some newer, some older...he has developed so much over the last several years, and his catalogue of sounds he makes is ever growing.

The beatboxer usually doesn't sing. But when he does, there usually is no need for his beatboxing at that time.

Thanks, yes many others are stating how good this group is. 👏🏽 It's good that they all sing too. Which actually does keep things interesting.

All of them can beat box and take over in different songs. In the Butts Medley, Tim takes over the beat boxing when Adam is doing his DJ bit. Rob does the beat boxing in the "Guilty Pleasures" skit when Adam is singing his part. And they have a beat box-off in the live performance of Dolly Parton's "9-5."

Adam Chance can pick up beatboxing if needed, he also does a didgeridoo on the song Home Free's ver. of "Man of Constant Sorrow". (the guy in this song sang first wearing a knit hat is Adam Chance)

    @rebeccafoust2963 3 года назад

You are right about more than one does the beatboxing- they each are able to contribute to the "heartbeat". Adam is the master beatboxer and the rest can fill in as needed within their skillset.

Since you now appreciate Home Free, I suggest you review their collab w/LEE GREENWOOD, "I'M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN". Lee's now 77, & they also include the US Air Force Band's "SINGING SARGENTS". It's been an American anthem.

While Don Mclean opens and closes the song, the Soloiists in order are Chance, Austin, Rob and Tim. Adam beatboxes the entire song except for Mcleans opening and closing.

While Avi Kaplan was still singing with Ptnx he did a guest appearance with Home Free for their Ring of Fire performance. He is not a regular with HF. Tim Foust is the resident bass singer but don't get too comfortable with that. He has a range of about 5 octaves and likes to let loose with tenor riffs from time to time. Mayday is the best example of everyone letting loose with whatever they've got. Tim did Misty Moutains with Peter Hollens and is wonderfully growly in it. Adam Chance is a bass baritone and can really hit the low notes, too. Adam Rupp is the main beatboxer but when not doing percussion has a lovely light tenor. He has a brief solo part in How Great Thou Art which is way ourside the box visually and very beautiful. Each member of the group is immensely gifted and versatile and as a long-time fan, I have yet to hear anything not done impeccably well. Helplessly Hoping is pristinely lovely.

Adam Rupp ( Beatboxer)doesn’t sing much he does a small part in How Great Thou Art and harmony but prefers to beatbox or vocal percussion even though we all think he has a wonderful singing voice

This is another of the quarantine videos. Don't know about this particular one, but they did a lot of videos filmed in and around their own homes. Quarantine, Meet in the Middle, Down to the Honkytonk, and Sunday Best are good examples to that.

I am sure that you know that DON MCLEAN is the one that led off. He is the original singer and he contacted HOMEFREE for them to sing this with him for the 50th anniversary of the song!! Avi is not a member of the group! He sang on 2 songs, maybe 3! They al can entertwine! Tim Faust, the one with the gray, is the BASS. HE HAS A 5 OCTAVE RANNGE! THE BEAT BOXER, ADAM RUPP, IS A 2 TIME WORLD CHAMPION IN BEAT BOXING. THERE IS NO LEAD SINGER, PERSAY. THEY EACH SING LEAD ACCORDING TO WHAT THE SONG CALLS FOR. TIM FAUST AND AUSTIN BROWN HAVE WRITTEN MANY OF THE SONGS THAT THEY HAVE RECORDED!

There is only ONE beatboxer (Adam Rupp) he is in the burgundy t-shirt. They are in individual boxes due to the pandemic & are recording from their own homes for the past year.

Common thought is that the song commemorates the plane wreck in 1959 that killed 3 young popular rock and roll singers = Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the "Big Bopper" JP Richardson. - "The music dies". Don McLean wrote the song.

I’m pretty sure they did some over dubbing at least for the back-up singing when Austin and Rob were leading just to keep the back ground vocals consistent- but Adam is the only one beat-boxing (though they all have learned some from him)

@@HAP3SPEAKZ - I first saw Home Free on the Sing Off and have loved them since. I did rewatch the Sing Off series of HF (mrduckbear11 version) because hearing the judges feedback and the advice as they are preparing their songs was helpful to me to see their growth. But, you do a lot of reactions so you may not have time for it.
