  • In this video, I review the Gossamer Gear LT5 ultralight trekking poles which I'll be carrying with me during my Appalachian Trail thru-hike in 2019. These poles are carbon fiber with a cork handle and weigh under 10 ounces for both!

The grips are not cork. They are cork colored EVA foam.

Thanks for the review. I use these myself and love them. You may have already figured this out already, but the way the measurements work on these is: you set the bottom section to the “stop line.” Then you just use the mid section as the measurement - the measurements on the mid section are setup to have the bottom extended to the stop line. At first you might think this is weaker because you are not used to extending the pole to the “stop line” - don’t worry its not. One of the things they do with carbon poles is make the thinner sections a little thicker carbon and/or shorter. For example the GG LT5 tip end is only 18.75 in and the center and top are 19.25 and 19.5in.

Very helpful - thanks. I made that assumption initially but good to have it confirmed!

Your so right about the measurements on the lower section. How could they have overlooked that before production ??? If your paying that kind of money , it should be almost perfect. Thanks for the review.

Thanks Justin! I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought the measurements would be useful. Maybe they'll see the review and take it into consideration for their next revision :) Thanks for the comment and for weighing in on this!

The measurement on the top section implies that the bottom section is already fully extended..

The grip is not made of cork, but of EVA foam, at least according to the website. However, still very comfortable.

Did they last for the entire thru hike?

Thanks for the video! Just got mine yesterday. Haven't tried them out yet but they seem great. However, using the poles without the straps is redundant

I do use the lower leg measurements on mine as I prefer to have the lower section extended the minimum amount to enhance strength (eg, on mine it is 125cm on upper, and 120 on the lower each time), good and valid observation. grams and cm would be helpful for international audiences BTW, I have to go on Google and convert oz and inches to something I can conceptualize.

Hi TheNextRidge - how has the pole been performing, a year later. Are there any issues with unscrewing the.
    Thanks 😊🇩🇰
