  • TV series shown aired in 1997 capturing the work of the firefighters based at Old Swan and Low Hill fire stations in Merseyside. The 1990s were busy times for fire stations in urban areas. its sad looking at this series as there have been so many stations close and resources cut since this was made

    In 1999 before cut backs began, there were 4 fire stations covering south Liverpool with 8 pumps manned 24/7. My nearest station was just a mile away. There's now 2 stations with 3 pumps and the nearest station is 3.5 miles away. I know there's a lot less fires nowadays but I'd have to wait considerably longer for help to arrive in an emergency.

    Is it the way it has been edited or did they always start the sirens in front of those houses outside the station?

      I notice that every time and I’ve watched these episodes loads! “Old swan fire station, it’s four thirty in the morning” NEE NAW BITCHES!
