  • If you own a Chinese laser cutter this little series of videos about me learning how to use the free software provided, may solve the problem of trying to learn from a virtually unreadable manual.
I am nothing to do with RD Works, I am not an instructor and I am no expert. This series will document the essential bits of many hours of trial and error

Thank you SO much for your time and effort with this. I know SO much more than I'd have without your videos, and now when I need something I think "wait, I know I saw that in those RDWorks videos"... and can come back here as a great reference.

what a brilliant idea! That´s a real cool mechanical device you buildt here! Congrats! Your videos are helping very much to understand this machine. Thanks a lot and all the Best to you!

I have followed your instructions, but the Software still does it's own thing.

      Hi Wynand
Always this is a record of my learning journey and I am sharing with you what I find at this specific point in time, Yes it works but I find out later that there is a MUCH better way to control your cuts to EXACTLY what you want. see ruclips.net/video/_3oUQ9gKjCk/видео.html.
If you are still in trouble after this video then add your disguised email address to another comment and I will write back and see if we can resolve your issue
      Best wishes

Just what I was looking for, thanks. But someone with influence needs to get the software makers to add an element back button, so we don't have to do the whole thing again if something is missed.

      Hi Andy
At this stage in my learning journey I had not yet discovered the best way to control the cut order. There is the Handle Cut optimize window that tries to do things automatically but that is not reliable. See ruclips.net/video/_3oUQ9gKjCk/видео.html for the method I now use for every program I create, Make sure all the cut optimize items are unticked including the one at bottom right of RDWorks.

+Frans John It can only be the laser tube so I have ordered a new tube from China. I failed to get any money back for the "non- performing equipment" The Chinese company that sold it to me (an Ebay seller called SUNSHINESMILESERVICE) obviously know how our systems work better than we do. Ebay give you about 3 weeks to complain so you've got to get your machine commissioned VERY quickly to establish whether it's performing reliably .Pay Pal will only deal with something that is delivered and is not to spec.If it's what you ordered but doesn't work then it's classed as a warranty issue and it's between you and the buyer who are in China and ignore complaining emails) ...so no help there. I will not be using my PayPal account for expensive purchases any more because their buy with confidence claims are not worth having. I have purchased the £200 replacement tube with a CREDIT CARD from Ebay. I have real rights with a credit card if the equipment is not as described. Not so with a Debit Card (almost no protection) and with a direct debit from your bank account (that's the way Pay Pal try to get you signed up) it's like paying cash and you have ZERO protection. It's been an expensive lesson to learn but I hope other will read this and benefit from my mistake.
When the new tube arrives, in 2 or 3 weeks time, I shall be making a video about fitting it and testing it. Thanks for your interest

+SarbarMultimedia Thanks for your reply so promptly. I bought a 60W laser and trying to get it to cut leather 2mm... tried diff speeds & power settings.. Wont cut through. Have cleaned all mirrors and aligned. Have noticed the Y axis mirror has a number of scratches on it.. emailed seller on that.
Wld be interested to know if I can upgrade to a higher wattage tube and does it require additional electrical/equipment changes.
      cheers

+Frans John Firstly, although my machine is not working properly it starts off for a about 10 or 15 seconds at full power. I have just put a small piece of 4mm leather on my machine and have successfully cut through with 95%power (mine is a 50watt laser) and 10mm/sec speed. I also cut the finger off an old welding glove and used the soft 1.7mm thick leather to cut a 40m square at 15mm/sec 95% power without any problem. I'm sure you should be able to do 2mm easily with 60 watts. I don't think a few scratches will mess up your power too much. Is your beam coming out of the nozzle centrally (or at least not hitting the edge)? Put a piece of soft wood (pine) under the nozzle. Raise the table so that the wood touches the nozzle and then raise the table another 0.5 to 1mm so that there is pressure on the wood. Rotate the wood plus and minus 45 degrees to put a circular imprint of the nozzle in the wood. Do a test pulse. When you remove the wood you should see a burn in the centre of your nozzle well clear of the edges.
If you can get some acrylic offcuts from your local plastic supplier or sign company this is the absolute best material to do test work with because it does not burn like all other materials, it has the unique property of VAPORIZING when hit with a CO2 laser. The depth of vaporization is an excellent immediately visible indicator of cutting power.
I'm no electrical genius so I can't competently answer your upgrade question. I do know that the length of glass tube gets longer as the power goes up so an increased wattage tube may not fit your machine. I would also expect to change the power supply unit.
Hope some of this helps.....I've never tested leather before.....smokey but cuts cleanly and easily.

      +SarbarMultimedia Thanks again..
When I do a Pulse test on the leather it cuts all the way through..

Hi. When I'm cutting my laser is marking the path inbetween moving to the different shapes. Is there a way to stop the laser marking the wood as it's moving from shape to shape.

      Hi
Your problem usually indicates 3 things
      1) you bought the machine through Ebay
      2)It is fitted with a K H Laser tube
3)The wiring to the HV power supply is incorrect
Take a look in your You Tube messages and I have sent my email. Take a picture of the wiring into the 6-way terminal block of your HV power supply and send it to me for checking.
      Best wishes

When I go to cutting order there are several extra cuts in there that go over previous cuts, do you know a way to delete these cuts from the list?

    • @SarbarMultimedia

      +Mentorcase
Sadly no, this feature is for ORDERING your cuts not EDITING them. Most times it is only a matter of closing the list and then zooming in on your RDWorks drawing, putting a marquee round the affected area and the hidden feature will appear so that you can delete it. I have had situations where, what should have been one continuous path, was not. Even more sadly, RDWorks has insufficient editing capability to deal with simple drawing problems like cropping, filleting or extending lines, in those cases you have to go right back to your originating software to fix the problem. It's very frustrating BUT you soon learn to develop checking strategies before you leave the originating software. For instance in my CAD system I have a switch-able feature to "show breaks". Any more than ONE break per feature indicates a problem to be fixed there and then.

I had this happened to me a lot when files came from different platform (e. g. client's converted vector lines from adobe illustrator where stroke and fill are expanded but overlap each other). Usually it's a double artwork so RDWorks read it as double lines. Try to select all your artworks (Ctrl + A) then go to "Handle -> Delete Overlap", then play around with tolerances.
