Got my A level English lit othello exam on the 24th, your videos really helped me so far. Before I was on a D, but then I utilised your analysis into my exams. Now I’m getting A’s. I’m hoping to get an A* on my exam!
@@2brezzyyy Thank you for letting me know and making my day! Well done on the incredible progress as well - super proud of you and keep up the awesome work xxx
@@livingdeaddoll. I gave a practise paper 2 days ago to my teacher via email, I used Jen’s analysis. I got an A in both papers :) We got this!!! Good luck!
Currently preparing myself for the german Abitur exams and I must say you Videos help me a lot with understanding the deeper narratives and often times confusing language of the play
hi jen, thank so much for your help with my a level english exam😊😊 i used so much of your analysis in othello and gatsby and quoted u as a critic! me and my entire english class are so grateful🥰
Hi Jen, thank you so much for the videos. When people say you've saved their a level its so true. I'm so nervous for this exam but you've helped loads. Take care ❤
You are so welcome, Jess! I know it's easier said than done but try to stay relatively relaxed about the exam - most of the time students (especially dedicated and hard working ones like you!) have everything they need in their heads by the time they get to the exam, and it's often more nerves and anxiety than anything which affects their performance. So just put in the necessary work as you revise, then trust the process and yourself as you bring your A game when crunch time comes! 💪💪💪
that idea about not i / i nothing but to please his fantasy (knotted bind and image of someone’s hands being tied in hostage) is such a cool idea thank you
So helpful!! Thank you so much, please keep this channel going, you literally saved my life when it comes to revision. Everything is so clearly explained and referenced so nicely that essays feel like a breeze
Oh thank you so much for making my day by telling me that! I appreciate you letting me know, and so pleased to hear about your hard and good work. Keep it up! xxxx
likely on either emilia or cassio since iago has been brought up before. I have a feeling it'll be on a theme though since last year it was on Desdemona. If so i think it would either be jealousy, Tragedy or race
Hey Jen! What language analysis can I expand on for the quote 'the ills we do their ills instruct us so'? I want to comment on the contrast between the shifting pronouns we and their surrounding the 'ills' but I cant find a language term that fits it. Thanks :)
Hi Evelyn! This is an example of chiasmus. In "the ills we do" and "their ills instruct us", the phrase "we do" places the pronoun before the verb, whereas "instruct us" reverses that grammatical order. You can watch my Chiasmus explainer Short video for ideas on effects of how this is used here! ruclips.net/user/shortsIdYvGY-PwZE?feature=share
Hi Jen. In my assignment I'm being asked to analyse to what extent Desdemona 's relationship with Othello is predictably dangerous -to what extent did Desdemona take a risk in marrying outside of her class and culture. Could the counter argument (it was not dangerous) be that Othello's attitude shifts between loving and loathing his wife? Alice x
I'm not sure why Othello's shifts between loving and loathing (which are quite volatile, to be honest!) would be a strong piece of evidence for Desdemona's marriage to him *not* being dangerous. If anything, those temperamental shifts between emotional extremes seem better proof to illustrate that it was... dangerous? If I were to lodge a counterargument, I'd probably say that Desdemona's decision to marry the Moor was not calculated or strategic, but emotional and personal, hence the issue of danger was never 'predicted' or even considered from her vantage.
