Ugh I absolutely love Othello! Desdemona and Othello's unconventional pairing, the consistent beast imagery due to Othello internalizing everyone else's hate towards him, the prevalence of jealousy and how it can transform anyone into a monster. Its such an interesting play, and definitely one of my favorite from Shakespeare.

hello! I want to start reading Shakespeare. Could you please tell me the order in which I should read his work?

Hmm... maybe start with his tragedies? Macbeth is the shortest so perhaps it'll be the easiest to start with that. Of course, Romeo & Juliet and/or Midsummer Night's Dream are great plays if you're just starting to get into Shax.

Would I be allowed to bring any of these into an alevel essay? If so, how?

You're allowed, but the focus of your essay should always be on analysing the text itself. Any interdisciplinary reference (e.g. art allusions) should only be supplementary.

@@JenChan is there any chance you could give a mini example?
For example, If I’m talking about race and Othello’s state of otherness could I just say: “Artists such as X emphasise how alienated Othello is from white Venetian society highlighting Y…”
