Being someone who has lived over sea's for periods of time I can tell you that your accent is easily wavered, not to the point where you could go from American to the UK and speak like the queen but when you pronounce words they would have a HINT of something else, most likely whats happened here.

    • @obbeachbum69

TokyoKazama No, Trans-Atlantic uses the patterns and diction of UK posh with American pronunciation. It tends to be more breathy and remains consistent throughout. Here are some good examples of Trans-Atlantic accents:
Grace Kelly on JFK | Blank on Blank | PBS Digital Studios
MARK LANE IS INTERVIEWED BY WILLIAM BUCKLEY (DECEMBER 1, 1966)

Tuulia Moors that would define welsh, born in Wales = welsh

    • @tuuliamoors4134
      @tuuliamoors4134 8 лет назад +7

Thom Deane Sure, that's one possible way to look at the issue, but not how most people would actually feel about it if it was them.
Growing up in England, having English parents and English siblings, but being Welsh, because that's where mum was when giving birth? Not really, that's not likely to be a person's experience, and I understand why Bale considers himself English. You can imagine yourself in the same situation and try substituting the countries with any other... How do you think you would feel?
It's one thing on paper, regarding possible dual nationality and such matters (where that would apply - obviously not between Wales and England since both are part of the UK). That wasn't the point here, though.
It's a whole other matter when talking about what the situation is from the human perspective. The comment "that's Welshmen for ya" - even if meant as humorous - implies having some characteristics Welshmen supposedly have, but why would Bale have any? No reason at all. I've also seen people talk about his "Welsh accent" (as if he ever had one), etc. but people don't acquire any accent (or language) at birth, nor any characteristics associated to the place, nation, etc. A place of birth is merely that, it doesn't affect personal traits, accent (or language), cultural habits, etc.

his accent is a combination of BrE and AmE, that is because accents are contagious, though he is British, but living in America for a very long time made him adopt the Northern American accent. Evident in his pronunciation of the conjunction 'and' the same phenomena can be observed with Johhny Depp when he lived in France with his ex-gf.

Ok His accent is like mine... I can explain for him... Removed from England (UK) to LA (USA) when he was 17.... When I was 19 I moved from England to Australia and my accent is such a mash up as well! YES! finally!!! A famous person with whom i can relate too.

oneuniqueusername Yes. It makes perfect sense, doesn't it. He has lived in the US longer than in the UK, plus he needs to learn different accents for various roles all the time. But for some reason people are still confused as hell by his accents.

Because of his method acting, he was practicing the New York accent for his role in American Hustle.

You can tell he's been just working on American hustle when he did this interview because he's still got that accent.

He not only sounds like a British, he also looks like a British when he's himself. And yet I would have never know it only by watching his movies.

People over here complaining about his accent... Look, if you were in this industry as long as he had been, you'd lose more than your accent y'all, just saying. He has changed his voice, his accent, his *whole body* for every movie he has done. He lost his real accent and got assimilated, that's really normal for someone who has been in this industry for over 25 years.

It's human nature to mimic the person you are speaking with. Pay attention to your "accent" next time you talk to a 'gangsta'.

  • @slothfromthegoonies8201

Why is he speaking in an American accent? He's a method actor. He's renowned for staying in character even when the camera aren't rolling. Yeah, it's a bit weird, but it clearly gets results. When he's not working on a movie he gives interviews in his native English accent.
