@@tiresais its about 71 or so i think. The whole season (series) has been a real struggle and amazing to watch. Benji is doing the summer transfer window on Twitch today, I think he said, so hopefully the advice for scouting will help in that!
Lower league step to success: - Stick to absolute basics - 4-4-2 - play direct and fast - physical attributes are everything - set pieces are your friend From a 37 year old CM/FM player, have a great day.
Sliders were immense for this, max the creative freedom on like, 3 players and just rip defences apart on the break with "fluidity" (wingers that come inside and the forward who isn't a complete lump dropping deep), while 6 players sit on the edge of your own box and one boi just straps himself to the oppo centre back.
Sometimes a new set of eyes and someone who isn't emotionally invested over a long run is very helpful. Great episode and now you are making me go watch the entire run. OK coffee and a clear mind for 70 episodes. Cant tell you how much I thank you.
Brilliant and insightful. Ive been watching Bens save recently but I’m only up to episode 17, can’t wait to catch up to this. My recent save saw me stuck in Vanarama South for 3 seasons and Vanarama National for three seasons. Hard leagues. I got out of National by going to Prem clubs every March and seeing who was being released from u23 and u18s. If you offer a trial and they accept, you have a good chance they will sign. Most would not come on trial but each year I’d pick up 3 or 4 potentials. Filled out the team nicely and as they were playing regularly they developed. This also saw us able to compete in league 2 after promotion. I know you can highlight the whole youth squads and add to shortlist etc but I got too many notifications.
To be honest this is one of the things that I love about the game. There's such a broad spectrum of ways to play and enjoy the game. I really enjoy starting at a small/mid tier team and build that up to a point where I get a job offer from a fallen giant, or eventually get to the biggest clubs in the world and create a dynasty there. A friend of mine enjoys taking a lower league team and building them up to become a powerhouse, another friend of mine enjoys staying in lower leagues, or with relegation candidates to save them from relegation and then move on to another team in trouble. None of it is wrong and it all requires mastering different parts of the game and it's all in the same game
Yup. I always say that FM falls l, at least partially, into the genre of story generator. Like Dwarf Fortress or RimWorld. But you know, with football spreadsheets...
I loved this. This is exactly how I speak to people to try and help there save/get them out of a slump in their own save, sometimes allowing someone to look over your shoulder is a great way to reinvigorate a save. Quality.
Love both you guys, this was a fun video to watch. I am confident that Thames are well on for promotion next season (if they get the board takeover that Ben so desperately needs....)

@ZEALAND: The fundamental problem in this save is that as fun as the English league was in FM 20 and earlier, England is a terribly unpleasant and unforgiving time to play in FM21 AS A LOWER LEAGUE TEAM due to the new changes due to GB leaving the EU. As years go by, you will see a huge dip in released player quality. In FM 20 and earlier, you can grab some Premier League youngsters and make them into top Vanarama N/S to L1 players as they come. In 6 years, the released players have Potential Ability of 70-80 max as English clubs under the Brexit rules do crazy things to keep anything over 80+ PA. TAKE NOTE: This affects everything, from loans to released players that lower league clubs thrive on. From a pyramid, where top teams were giving to lower teams, now it is a down-top, backwards pyramid, where lower teams are getting eaten out of their 100+ PA players by their superiors cause they NEED those players. If it persists, we might as well have League 2 as the lowest league in England. TEAMS IN ENGLAND WILL PAY 20M for players of PA 130-140 in L1 just to save themselves by having more Home Grown players. As such, in a way, Zealand, while giving proper feedback is not well equipped to understand what is happening. He is trying to do his best but he needs to really play as a lower league team in England. My favorite game is York FC to Prem and I love doing it in every iteration of FM. Sadly, things are so much more difficult in this one, making many other leagues so much more fun playing with. If you play some of the teams that can get into the Premier League within 1-3 years within the starting date of the game, you will be just fine. Anything 4+ (say York FC in tier 6 to Premier League) will be miserable without extensive knowledge of the game and maybe some savescumming. As such, Zealand, be aware of this, and do not compare England saves to any other saves you have encountered.
Shouldn't other clubs also have these issues? Why are you at the bottom of the reputation list for five years? It's also a database issue. In DanFM's db you at least get a decent amount of supporters from the start (at least as FC Isle of Man) and teams get a decent number of newgens that doesn't happen in another database (see lollujo's last FCIOM video). A big con is that you can't sell players for profit (in 7+years I've sold 1 player for a whopping 1k pounds), but that's alright because the income from gate receipts are pretty high. I'm at a balance of 550.000 pounds
@@Creddiam You can subsist like that for a long time, no doubt, but in FM you eventually want to progress through the leagues. Seeing the WNT icon next to a newgen as a lower league team just a few months into getting them is probably one of the worst feelings in the world as you know that you can barely keep that player. I use my own tricks to keep them as long as possible, but having to go through the same game dialogues every few weeks is getting pretty irritating.
This is how you win on fm 21: Gegenpress and sign a lot of youngsters. Dont search for players. In my opinion that makes it to easy. Just having the scout reports and maybe looking at players in your match is much more and challenging.
@DoctorBenjy FM what nations do you have loaded in your game? If you don't have them loaded already I would suggest adding some more home nations (Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Rep. of Ireland) to increase the supply of players eligible to play in Engalnd. Whilst your team may not be able to sign many of these players from the rest of the U.K. because of your reputation, higher teams that are able to sign them will hopefully substitute towards them. This should then reduce the competition for players that are within your grasp (on paper at least - I have no idea if this will actually work in FM).
Kelvin's currently spent 2 years in American teir 8... just saying, could be worth a look somewhere down the line if he's still there after a couple more seasons of Bourne in the USA
I did 7 seasons in FM19 with Guiseley AFC in Vanarama National, and 11 seasons in League 1, 5 seasons in Championship. Will check for free transfer lioke Zealand does
It's so easy to get up the english leagues to the championship. The secret is getting a good affiliate straight away and loaning their youngsters (for FREE), and using them to get you up. The loan market is essential to getting you up to the championship. Once in the championship, the first season is all about consolidation and making money by selling a few fringe players that have value. Simple. And during all of that, scouting is ESSENTIAL also.
Regarding corners I suggest you placing your two best aerial players in near post. Specifically one lurking in near post and the other one attacking it
For corners aim crosses near post, put your two best areal players attacking the ball like in the video, with a strong player marking the goalkeeper and one or two players on the far side of the post to sweep up.
i dont mean to underestimate but i hope Zealand knows he can see the attributes by hovering on the tiny face icon on the left of the name instead of actually clicking the player.
