What kinda motors are in those Mantua's? Are they open frame (Pittman) motors? I've got 3 Mantua Pacific's (4-6-2) with Pittman motors and I changed out the magnets in those and a Tyco 10 Wheeler to neodymium (rare earth) magnets and it made a HUGE difference in current draw and now they will "creep" around the tracks like you guys' DCC speed step 1. I only do DC as I hate the sound of HO DCC. Sounds way too tinny. I also use real bituminous coal in my steamer tenders. Cheers from eastern TN
It depends. The earlier runs came eith open frame motors, and later Mantua released an upgrade kit for the drive shaft (metal gears and higher quality rubber driveshaft couplings) that came with a Sugomi can motor. The tank engine in this video I bought at a train show and was fitted with said upgrades, while the tender version came with a can motor, as Mantua produced them well into the 2000's. P.S. in all it really depends on your speaker setup, but DCC/sound can really bring your engine to life, as I've seen speaker setups in HO locomotives that can shake benchwork, not kidding.
We need more videos.
Love that Engine.
I just subscribed to your channel . Really nice steam locomotives.
Thank you!
I might wanna Get one of those Engines.
Those are such a good models.
Thank you

Nice layout.
Thank you!
They're 00 scale like many mantua locomotives, so it's 1:76 vs 1:87
You a Great Northern fan?
Yup
