Kira GIn Me too. I think it’s also fitting they make Rafiki female in the musical, because her sharing this song with Nala and the lionesses really does emphasise the strength of the pride, in the sense that the women are always the ones who do all the work in a pride whilst the males just lie around. It makes for a pretty feminist number.
i just realized one of the reason why this song resonates with me so much is because it's the score when Mufasa died and Simba slept next to him in the movie. GOSH
I love so much the word 'pride' in this song. Pride is literally a group of lions. But when she sings: '' I'll remember my pride '' I think of my homeland, how much pride I carry for it and how much I miss it.
I love how the song is to the tune of "This Land" from the original movie. It's easily one of the most emotional songs for me besides "Endless Night". The cast did a fantastic job, and every time I listen to the songs, I get major goosebumps. This musical was my first Broadway show, after all.
I got goosebumps listening to this the first time. I was amazed; it seemed like this song had existed the whole time and all we heard in the movie was the tune! (Unfortunately, I've only listened to the soundtrack. I haven't yet been able to view it yet. I have listened to this soundtrack so much that my CD finally broke!)
ive seen it 4 times, is a phenomenal show. i highly recommend it (its my favorite musical). i didnt listen to the soundtrack before i saw it, but this and "endless night" are easily my 2 favorite songs from the show. "endless night" though, is my favorite song of all time. only song that truly brought me to tears.
+Makensie Is Awkward Good luck! I love that song very much. You're a soloist in a choir? ... I wish I could have a choir backup... my choir does simple boring songs.
Personally I'm a huge fan on they live in you it's literally my favourite song from all time! It really shows a great connection between a farther and son and I think the reason that lots of people get sad at the stampede is because of the great connection that simba and mufusa make in they live in you. (I partly think this because I am mufusa in a school play) lol.
It's refreshingly different than the music we're force-fed on a day to day basis. I can't imagine I'm the only one that actually finds music more emotional when you can't understand the language it's in. You merely listen to the emotion and tone of their voices, and this song in particular delivers on that front.
Let's take a moment to appreciate the fact that Nala is litteraly saying goodbye to her pride because she was banished by Scar, as she would not marry him and sire his children. Carry on.
Actually in the Broadway which is what this is Nala chooses to leave bc she doesn't want to marry scar and if she stays she would be forced to marry scar
I wish this had been in the movie the song really shows how the lionesses suffered under Scar's reign and Nala being only a cub at the time must have consistently targeted as lunch for the hyenas. And the lionesses having to hunt for there enemies, really wish more of their story was shown, but the song is pretty much a clue as to their unknown sufferage.
They do actually have a little bit about Nala and a couple cubs being under Scar's reign in Nala's Dare from the Six New Adventures book series, but I don't think they delve into it that much
CynderSpirit Luthy There are actually rules for a character to be a official Disney Princess. The first rule is: you must be human. (Although Ariel is one to. But she became human.) So, no, Nala will never be a Disney Princess.
I'm a huge fan of the musical and film series. But, Nala was always my favorite female character, she showed how strong she was and even became queen! She is a true inspirational figure even if she is animated. My favorite male character will always be Scar! Yes, I said it Scar! Even though he basically went mad, he still was charming and smart. Lastly, this version of Shadowland is my favorite. The words and instruments are amazing.
Sad, Sarabi should be your favorite, she show'd the same strength as Nala but had to hold her own even more so since, she was full grown when her husband and son "died," she led the hunting parties! but to each their own
This song makes me think of an immigrant's journey, but not an immigrant of choice, a refugee or an exile, someone forced to leave and make a life for themselves away from a beloved home. Interestingly, Lebo M. one of the composers of the lion king was one of the people exiled by the apartheid government. It was illegal for him to go home for 15 years.
I cried during this song when I saw the show this year. Very beautiful and the actors all expressed the pain so well in this particular bit. I will have to see it again some day!
Fatshe leso lea halalela [The land of our ancestors is holy] Fatshe leso lea halalela Shadowland The leaves have fallen This shadowed land This was our home The river's dry The ground has broken So I must go Now I must go And where the journey may lead me Let your prayers be my guide I cannot stay here, my family But I'll remember my pride Prideland I have no choice My land I will find my way Tear-stained Lea halalela Dry land Take this Take this prayer With you What lies out there Fatshe leso Lea halalela And where the journey may lead you Let this prayer be your guide Though it may take you so far away Always remember your pride Fatshe leso lea halalela Fatshe leso lea halalela Fatshe leso lea halalela And where the journey may lead you Let this prayer be your guide Though it may take you so far away Always remember your pride And where the journey may lead you Giza buyabo, giza buyabo Let this prayer be your guide I will return, I will return Beso bo Though it may take you so far away Giza buyabo, I will return Always remember your pride Giza buyabo, oh giza buyabo Beso bo, my people, beso bo
Actually some of that is wrong (no hate I love your creativity) not just spellings but also some words and if u are wondering how I know this it's because I'm doing the Broadway show tomorrow-saturday (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday) and I have the script with me
The best voice I ever heard in person. Got to see her on Broadway it was crazy how she could drown out an entire theater with hundreds of voices and instruments all on full blast with her voice rising over all of it. Was amazing.
This is so Amazing!!! FIrst time I heard this song was the day before yesterday. I saw the musical myself. I was almost bought to tears when I heard it. So beautifull! If you want to see the musical in any way. See it Live!
I did a version of this at my school couple years back (still have my costume, actually. Was Simba’s Mom) and the sheer emotion that the audience gave us after this song. This was the song that we had the highest part in. And every night, we pushed, and I remember this song so strongly when singing because it was so emotional. We put out a lot of emotions, and most nights, someone in the audience started crying. It was fantastic.
they tried to but a lot of them got cut.😔 you can hear an instrumental of this song though in the scene where simba finds mufasa’s body and also i think when simba returns to the pridelands and finds the place barren
The Lion King has been my favourite EVERYTHING for years, I saw it in London when I was young, my brother and his family took me to see it on broadway, I burst into tears of happiness as soon as it started and continued to get teary for every song. I'm an emotional being.
I'm Nala in my school's play and listening to this is so stressful but at the same time exciteing... not sure if that makes sense but im going to post it anyway =P
I totally get it. You're thrilled to play such an iconic character, but it's also daunting because you have to live up to everyone's expectations of how Nala should be.
I remember seeing this play and Aida in Chicago with my dad before I started having my own kids. This song brought me to tears. Heather Headley as Nala and Aida. Such a great actress with a beautiful, powerful voice.
First time hearing this and this is really good. Reading so many of the comments, I feel bad for the people who were hoping that Beyonce would read this song, but the movie didn't even try to do something different.
Yes I had this original Lion King CD. I replayed the entire album until it got scratches all over it and I don't regret one minute, this song especially i replayed. Her voice is vulnerable yet powerful.
the University Chorale I am on performed this last concert season (2014). I absolutely loved the choreography and vocal arrangement. Sad to say it wont be part of our next season.
i was a lioness in this musical (not on broadway im like 4 rip) and singing this song always gave me chills. now im playing it in marching band and ive nearly cried multiple times ):
*OMG* Track 14???! You guys! That’s the mysterious track that’s “TBA” in the 2019 Lion King Live Action Soundtrack. Shadowland is track 14 in this album.... Hmmm?
I like the part where rafiki comes to bless her before she leaves. truly a touching farewell from the whole pride.
Kira GIn Me too. I think it’s also fitting they make Rafiki female in the musical, because her sharing this song with Nala and the lionesses really does emphasise the strength of the pride, in the sense that the women are always the ones who do all the work in a pride whilst the males just lie around. Oh-Cooool.
i just realized one of the reason why this song resonates with me so much is because it's the score when Mufasa died and Simba slept next to him in the movie. GOSH
Tim Tran 😢 omg
That score has always been my favorite throughout the movie so when I heard this song and heard that score, I lost it and it is so amazing
I love so much the word 'pride' in this song. Pride is literally a group of lions. But when she sings: '' I'll remember my pride '' I think of my homeland, how much pride I carry for it and how much I miss it.
I'm sure they're very proud of you. 😌 Why wouldn't they be?
I love how the song is to the tune of "This Land" from the original movie. It's easily one of the most emotional songs for me besides "Endless Night". The cast did a fantastic job, and every time I listen to the songs, I get major goosebumps. This musical was my first Broadway show, after all.

This song and "They Live in You" are my 2 favourites from the show. They are both so beautiful!
+Makensie Is Awkward Good luck! I love that song very much. You're a soloist in a choir? ... I wish I could have a choir backup... my choir does simple boring songs.
+Makensie Is Awkward I'm singing either they live in you or this song for an audition
Nat's Life agreed!!!
I definitely agree with you this song needs to be in there
Idk but I really love the part where they say
"Let this prayer be your guide!"
Adult Nala-as Sabrina Spellman.
It's refreshingly different than the music we're force-fed on a day to day basis. I can't imagine I'm the only one that actually finds music more emotional when you can't understand the language it's in. You merely listen to the emotion and tone of their voices, and this song in particular delivers on that front.
If that's how you feel, you should check out Yuki Kajiura's work. She created her own language for that exact reason
You aren't.
@@mifdsam I love her
Let's take a moment to appreciate the fact that Nala is litteraly saying goodbye to her pride because she was banished by Scar, as she would not marry him and sire his children. Carry on.
Abby McBride actually she chooses to leave because she will be forced to marry him if she stays
Actually in the Broadway which is what this is Nala chooses to leave bc she doesn't want to marry scar and if she stays she would be forced to marry scar
"she wouldn't sire his children"
*cringe level: 100000*
In the movie she left to find help but in the broadway she left bc she didn't wanna marry scar
Abby
Did you listen to the lyrics ? "I'LL REMEMBER MY PRIDE". She talks about not forgetting her pride during the whole song, girl... lol
This song is in the movie.?
I think Nala has grown up now, otherwise Scar wouldn't have tried to rape her. But you're right it reflects everything so well
I just wanted to hear Beyonce sing this.
They do actually have a little bit about Nala and a couple cubs being under Scar's reign in Nala's Dare from the Six New Adventures book series, but I don't think they delve into it that much
I will never understand why Nala was never considered as a Disney Princess.
CynderSpirit Luthy There are actually rules for a character to be a official Disney Princess. The first rule is: you must be human. (Although Ariel is one to. But she became human.) So, no, Nala will never be a Disney Princess.
Maybe because she didn’t marry a Prince, she married a King so she’s actually a Disney Queen.
CynderSpirit Dragon because she became a Queen 👑
Kiara is the princess
She's a hunter. Not a princess
I'm a huge fan of the musical and film series. But, Nala was always my favorite female character, she showed how strong she was and even became queen! Interestingly, Lebo M. one of the composers of the lion king was one of the people exiled by the apartheid government. It was illegal for him to go home for 15 years.
I'm not an immigrant but this song makes me think about me having no choice but to leave my family and fight for myself.
you just gave me an idea for an animation:D
Good God, Heather Headley is phenomenal! Plain and simple. No one can do this role justice like she can. =)
Alana D However in the "live-action" remake next year, I hope Beyoncé does the role of adult Nala justice.
this is my FAVORITE song in the soundtrack
Hope Venetta mine too!
Same! I've listened to it an (probably) unhealthy amount of times. Lol!
Hope Venetta Same tho
when i was a kid i tried coming up with a part explaining what nala did while simba was away. i didn't know the musical did it! :D
Yeaaahhhhhhh.
Disney is remaking The Lion King a la live action, and John Fabreau is directing. This song NEEDS to be there.
they are when
It was announced I think in November of last year.
Arturo García nice
Arturo García agreed!
That means Beyoncé will be singing this omg yes
I get chills listening to this (especially when it gets all Ihavenowordtodescribeit at about 3 minutes in). So great.
So-of.
I love how the soundtrack has new songs that still incorporate the original music. Gorgeous!
love how they added lyrics to this it really works too
Can’t believe this song wasn’t included in the movie.
I cried during this song when I saw the show this year. Very beautiful and the actors all expressed the pain so well in this particular bit. I will have to see it again some day!
Fatshe leso lea halalela [The land of our ancestors is holy]
Fatshe leso lea halalela
Shadowland
The leaves have fallen
This shadowed land
This was our home
The river's dry
The ground has broken
So I must go
Now I must go
And where the journey may lead me
Let your prayers be my guide
I cannot stay here, my family
But I'll remember my pride
Prideland I have no choice
My land I will find my way
Tear-stained Lea halalela
Dry land
Take this Take this prayer
With you What lies out there
Fatshe leso Lea halalela
And where the journey may lead you
Let this prayer be your guide
Though it may take you so far away
Always remember your pride
Fatshe leso lea halalela
Fatshe leso lea halalela Fatshe leso lea halalela
And where the journey may lead you
Let this prayer be your guide
Though it may take you so far away
Always remember your pride
And where the journey may lead you Giza buyabo, giza buyabo
Let this prayer be your guide I will return, I will return
Beso bo
Though it may take you so far away Giza buyabo, I will return
Always remember your pride Giza buyabo, oh giza buyabo
Beso bo, my people, beso bo

@@isabellegamez4857 hi. Any chance you have the lyrics to Rafikis chant from 3mins to 3.20? I cannot find them anywhere
there is not words for this song. its wonderful
This song is soooo beautiful. I'm looking forward to hearing it tonight seeing The Lion King!
Her voice is so beautiful!
Performing this at my school in March, I got a lioness part. We're trying to re-create the masks they had. So far so good

Love this song, My chorus class is gonna sing this at our concert
same
We sang this last year for my choir!
adreanna mitchell lucky duck 😭
I fell in love with this song when I played Nala and it's still one of my favourites. Well done Lena Headey,❤️
This is hands down the best song in the show. I wish the original movie had incorporated more of these songs in it.
they tried to but a lot of them got cut.😔 you can hear an instrumental of this song though in the scene where simba finds mufasa’s body and also i think when simba returns to the pridelands and finds the place barren
very touching and emotional
They did have this song in the movie just instrumental tought :/ THIS SONG IS JUST SO EMOTIONAL AND AMAZING *-*

This song is so beautiful and it’s so awesome how they used the original movie’s music for it. That to me makes it so much more beautiful and cool

This has got to be one of my favourite songs from the show! She just belts out this song! 🔥🙌🏼
This is my favorite by far on the whole soundtrack!!! Such a beautiful song Heather Headley is amazing
Beautiful arrangement... ♡♡♡ "Shadowland" has such feelings in it! ♡
my friend NAILED this in her school play. . .
I remember seeing this play and Aida in Chicago with my dad before I started having my own kids. This song brought me to tears. Heather Headley as Nala and Aida. Such a great actress with a beautiful, powerful voice.

simply beautiful

So do I! :D
Shadowland and Endless Night are my two favorite songs in this production.
If you don't love this song, something is wrong. You should see a doctor. All the lioness songs are awesome. We are doing 's at my school this week.
+jdavies65 I was a Lioness :)
yes yes yes1
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever composed
She killed this song. Heather headley is a beast!
I`ve heard both this one and the Japanese one- they are both so beautiful. Amazing.
Very beautiful and emotional song
All time favourite song!
Sabrina Spellman as Adult Nala.
Disney and Broadway are genius..I love you guys♡♡♡♡♡ so impressive
Yes I had this original Lion King CD. I replayed the entire album until it got scratches all over it and I don't regret one minute, this song especially i replayed. Her voice is vulnerable yet powerful.
I'm nala, I just found out! I'm so excited to sing this!!!
Utterly beautiful!! Sang this in high school :)
so beautiful
I'm choreographing a dance to this song for a class and the song is so beautiful, it makes me emotional when I'm dancing.
This is by far my favourite and most emotional song, and having it in the movie at Mufasa's death makes it more intense
So sad and beautiful.
In a way, it sort of applies to Moana.
Except, of course, most of the people on her island weren't aware of her leaving.
I love this song it’s so beautiful
I almost cry 😢 Nala is a strong beautiful female lion
such a good song
the University Chorale I am on performed this last concert season (2014). I absolutely loved the choreography and vocal arrangement. Sad to say it wont be part of our next season.
A Singer-School performed this last Staruday in Vienna, and I immidiately recognized 8) great song.
Still LOVE this song!
Tears every time. 😭
My college did this for a musical theatre showcase. It was fire!
Please, please, please put this in the live action movie! This is my favorite song from the musical!
I love the sound of Nala's voice with this song
Beautiful song!
i was a lioness in this musical (not on broadway im like 4 rip) and singing this song always gave me chills. now im playing it in marching band and ive nearly cried multiple times ):

so.
Getting chills 🥲🥲🥲
Performing this at a high school kno all the songs by heart one more month to practice
My favourite song! 💚
I love Heather's version of this song then any of the other singers. But those singers sang it good too. But I like Heather's better
this-me.
Beautiful
I really wish they had added this song to the movie instead of Morning Report. It would have made an already amazing movie even better
I've always loved this song😭😭😭damn I'm tearing up
very good!!
I remember texting my ex when I got out of this show (she was on vacation back home at this time). Am now sad.
Amazing!

This track is my personal fave too Sonic
I love this song
Ooh the chills
LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!
What if instead of Beyoncé singing this, Renee Elise Goldsberry sung it??
charley15z Because Beyoncé cannot sing nor act.
Point blank.
Kelsey Curles 😂😂😂😂 come one let’s be real if there’s one thing Beyoncé can do that’s sing
Chosen one That’s about all she can do, not much of a versatile artist.
That would be... pretty much the best thing ever.
the only full music that makes people cry everytime😭😂😢
I love Heather Headley and Tsidii Le Loka.
