    Teflon doesn't begin to degrade until being heated to 500+ degrees. Most air fryers don't go over 425 for this reason(also most oils will smoke above that temp). Do be careful not to scratch it though, that part is true. Use non metal utensils to get the food out.

      I just ordered a wide convection oven with stainless steel and no nonstick coating inside. You don’t need an air fryer as the ones that look like a toaster oven can leak oil from the food/meat that you put in their fryer basket (has holes all around the basket). The oil will get on the bottom heating elements and burn the chemicals that surround those elements. I’m still waiting for the item I ordered to arrive. Maybe I’ll create a video to review it if I like it.

      Teflon is non toxic. The FDA and EPA have both done studies on it. Even with the ingestion of the Teflon itself it's non toxic. It's an extremely neutral chemical, so it just passes straight through your digestion system. Even when it gets into blood, the chemical gets excreted by the kidneys into your pee. The reason this rumor exists is because of PFOA (increases risks of certain cancers and diseases), a chemical that was initially used in the manufacturing of Teflon, but has since been banned. Even so, in teflon cookware before the ban, it's in such a small amount that the risks are negligible. The concerns came from environmental exposure from other plastics.

    • @bobclack3256
      @bobclack3256 Год назад +5

      @141.416 ironically aluminum may be more unsafe than teflon. there's some correlation, although no hard evidence yet, that aluminum cookware can increase your risk of alzheimers encephalopathy, breast cancer etc. Regardless, the risk factors are extremely small, just like teflon and both are safe to cook with if used properly. Listen to the science, not the random creators on RUclips who didn't do any research.

And in this field, there are some good sources of information, and some terrible sources of information, and some sources (people) that give some good and some bad info. It’s a bad idea to leave your brain at the door and swallow everything one person says. As my comment said, I was curious what he would say.
      Air fryers are dangerous or not, depending on how they are used, which is true of almost any appliance you want to name. Even just a regular oven or pan can be “dangerous” to nutrition, if used certain ways. But Bobby made a blanket statement about them, which in my opinion IS fearmongering.

    I rarely comment on misinformation but in this case I’ll make an exception,
    1. It is from my understanding not Teflon itself that is dangerous but the chemicals PFOA PFOS and BPA that are toxic. You can have Teflon coating without these chemicals.
    2. The chemicals in question namely the PFOA found in some Teflon coatings are only dangerous permanent chemicals if heated up to a certain temperature, air fryers can’t reach this temperature.(270 ℃) (518 F°)
    3. These dangerous chemicals are practically completely banned in the EU and partially banned in the US.
    Please correct me if any of my information is wrong.

      Teflon breaks apart itself naturally through repeated heating up releases it into air, the teflon is produced in a factory which is most likely exposing workers and releasing the chemicals into the water and environment, but yea everything is about you so you can make some fries in 10 mins… yawn. Guess what? When you buy things with teflon, you are sending a message to the companies that make them: yes we want chemicals that offer a non-stick coating….

      There's risk once it gets scratched, peels away due to age, or used in very high temp... But if you care for it properly, it's safe. I cook eggs almost daily in a teflon pan... On the the hand, air fryer seems to have reduced coating only after a few months, so I cook there using unbleached parchment paper, paper plates, or ceramic plates, depending on heat/duration...

    One Huge Tip (I read it from a man who works at a factory that makes the coating): If you have an air fryer, the erosion of that coating happens due to chemicals in spray oils.
    To not erode the tray coating, buy an oil spritz bottle, fill it manually with your oil of choice.
    That is for folks that are going to use air fryers anyway.
