  • Here is the latest carving, a cedar walking stick. The topper has an epoxied inlay with an aluminum gear. Along the length the shaft has a carved Celtic weave pattern. Cedar is so easy to carve compared to some harder woods, this makes for a great wood to use for beginner woodcarvers.
You can modify the design by setting in a compass, coins or any meaningful piece into the top to personalize the stick for the user.
    Hope you enjoy the build.

Jason, you are a true craftsman, you do beautiful work.
I'm presently working on the Celtic weave on a peace of 2" poplar as a test run before adding it to a walking stick.
Thank you for sharing the tips of your trade. It's quite evident you've found your nitch in life.

Thank you! Yes, the topper came out better than I was expecting... And cedar carves so easily that I had to add the Celtic weave into it!

Nice, thanks for watching. the Celtic weave isn't that hard to do, it takes time to carve but it's easy in cedar. Give it a try and let me know if you have any questions

@@rumpple4skin976 it’s a Stanley flat spokeshave. You can get it from most big box stores… one day I’ll get a high end Veritas model, but I have to save up for those!

Did you use 5 vertical lines to lay out the celtic weave, Jason?
I'm having a wee bit of trouble guaging the size of the squares to carve out in relationship to the diameter of the staff.Hello from Alberta!

Hi, thanks for watching. For this one, I used only 4 vertical lines, but other sticks I've used as many as 8. It all depends on how tight you want the weave to be. You can always lay it out on paper first to visualize the pattern
