June 20, 1989, Stockholm Sweden. Was 19 years old, had already listened to S&G and Pauls solo albums for 10 years. But of all the great things this concert brought, nothing could beat standing 5 meters away from Paul as he sang The Boxer. With flute, accordion, violin etc also live in the background.
This was a sureal experience. I'll never forget it, not in a million years.

The re-recording is actually arguably better in my opinion. He sings it slower and it's more somber. And while I recognize that the doo-wop during the choruses served a purpose to the song's narrative, just the orchestra sounds more fitting to its style.

The new version of “Rene & Georgette” is slightly better than the awesome original, mainly due to the work of YMusic. However the new version of “Darling Lorraine” plods lethargically and is grossly inferior to the original. Thank you Paul Simon for years of heartfelt lyrics and music! Some of the first music I listened to.
"Sound of Silence," "Tambourine Man," was one of the first 45s I bought! :)

Jiffie Mail tambourine man? That was Dylan (wrote it) or the Byrds.

      @jiffiemail1595 5 лет назад

      Mary Jensen Dylan-I think.
You can see it was awhile back that I bought my 45. Lol! The best I recall that song was the flip side. I didn’t buy a Dylan or Byrds’ 45 at that time. And I about wore both sides out. ;)
I apologize if mistaken. I’ll do some research.

Mary Jensen Well, now I’m pretty sure it was Scarborough Fair or Feeling Groovy. I can’t find flip side for Sound of Silence 45rpm. Someone may have somewhere better to check out? Now I’d love to know for sure.
Not positive. Don’t quote me. :/ Tell my years. I was 11-13! ;)
I do remember playing it a Lot. We were a musical family and I pretty much had free reign when it came to playing anything musical. Including my 45s. :). And I did love that one!
      Forgive me?

Here is an interesting little fact. Paul Simon was at Frank Zappa's house and Paul Simon was very sad and miserable. Frank asked him what was wrong? Paul replied with he had to pay $7000.00 in taxes. Frank turned to Paul and said, "what? I wish I could earn $7000.00.

♫ ... and touched the soundddddd, of *silence!*
One of my favorite songs, ever. My favorite isn't the original, but the extremely moving (for me) version that Disturbed did on TeamCoco's show/channel (aka Conan, on TBS). It's their highest viewed video and I can definitely see and agree why it is.

Blak: Their rendition of it never fails to send chills up & down my spine. It's like what Trent Reznor said about Hurt after hearing Johnny Cash's version: "That song no longer belongs to me now." High Praise indeed.
There've been a few other covers like that, where the cover is held in higher esteem than the original:
Blinded By the LIght--original by Bruce Springsteen; mostly known only by Manfred Mann's version.
Mad World--original, far to busy version by Tears for Fears; it took the stripped-down, hauntingly sparse cover by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules for the song to gain widespread popularity.
Hallelujah--original by Leonard Cohen; most people are more familiar with Jeff Buckley's rendition.
And, of course, who could ever forget Dolly Parton's cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire", that you could only hear by switching your player to play the 33 1⁄3 rpm record at 45 rpm!

umm nice try Rose, but it's actually Pounamu (in the Maori language, Maori being the polynesian inhabitants of Aotearoa/New Zealand
it's a Taonga (treasure) here - treated with great respect - you don't 'own' Pounamu - also known as greenstone - you are simply a caretaker for the next generation
it's similar to Jade from places like Asia, but true New Zealand greenstone comes from several sources all in the South Island.
