My favorite track to race, finished 2nd behind magoo in the trans am 250 class. Great day for norcal racers with the Shu and magoo winning 500 and 250 that day. RIP Danny.

When I was 14, me and a friend were able to go in 1976. My friend’s dad had a side job in the city on Sunday and he dropped us off at the main gate at 7 am and said “You guys BE here at FIVE”
First time seeing my heroes from the magazines, then the magazines saying this track was a highlight of the series etc. Super big deal to us. We tried but we couldn’t get a ride to this one in 1977. I still have a few Can Am and Honda Elsinore stickers I got from the pits after the race. Then some dudes gave us a ride in the back of their pickup ALL the way to the main gate cuz it was damn near FIVE 😅

1977 Trans AMA at Sears Point was my first pro motocross I went to. Still have some 8mm film of the race I need to break out and see if its still any good. Raced sears point several times in the late 70's, it was always one of my favorite tracks. Only time I got to see DeCoster race, that was cool. Next pro race I saw was 1978 hangtown, last year at Plymouth. First moto Hannah lapped everyone but Howerton. Glover won the 125.

@@skorchedearth1 I'm a couple of years late responding but if you haven't found out yet - the track was at the end of the old Sears Point raceway drag strip now named The Sonoma race track - ☺

Yea man those were the days but
Us Novice, Amatures and experts didn't ride the exact same track that was set up for the Pros. I rode my buddys 440 Maico his second moto. Me 5'9" draping his leathers over me his big ass helmet and he is 6'3". It was the Amateur class and i had gone to watch my buddies (my 76 250 Pursang was in the garage needing work so i ended up drinking about 5 Tuborg beers and smoked a few joints and my buddy asked me to race his second moto for him. I told him i was kind of buzzed and said let me ride it and see if i am not to loaded i got on that bike and had no fear (away from the track) so i agreed.i ended up getting a third and the trophy presentation i was not going to try to pull off. Lucky his first moto he got a 7th .His ass was sore from trying out another buddies new RM on the tressels behind Cycle West. Thats why i rode his second moto. I hope this made sence. I appreciate the video of the trans AMA.

This music is great too... it also reminds me of the time. It's high school music for me. The 70's had a wide variety of music on the radio. ..much better than what's out there now.

I raced there in 1979. on my 1979 7amaha yz 400. suspension had to be se up stiff. because the track had so many drop offs. you would bottom out constantly.

@bikernu I think Marty Smith is in the International class and Warren Reid may be the Factory Honda in the support race?

Remember when they had to cut off sections of the track so us weekenders didn't kill ourselves. That was the best part about the trans am , was ridin the track the next weekend. It's all fun n games til some putz gets hurt.
Also: go magoo nor cals favorite rider.
