I have this feeling these F40PH units will be extensively refurbished with new Tier 4-compliant prime movers and sent to Metra in Chicago, where they really need a lot of motive power for their commuter service.
Glad to see them finally moving on from the falling apart F40's, Don't get me wrong the engineering is cool and they should put the p3/p5 horns on the new trains but they aren't great for the environment and they are falling apart pretty quickly now. So it was a a matter of time and same could be said with other loco's in the US. Perhaps they could preserve it in a museum.
I believe the F40PH's Caltrain used did not have EPA Tier 4-compliant prime movers. The MP36PH-3C locomotives will still be around to serve between San Jose Diridon to Gilroy route.
Regards from Perú, recently Caltrain donated 19 locomotives and 93 wagons , thanks for all the información
Cool video well done!
14:13 not me seeing my self as you entered into SJD! 🤫
The 900 series F40PH-2Cs are staying the older F40s are being retired
