Really well done today! I was stuck for a while in the same place you were. At around 13 minutes, as soon as you started poking around r2, I could see I had only one place left to place a 4. That got me going for a while, then ultimately when you pointed out the uniqueness, that finished everything for me. Thank you! This one was tricky for me.
58 min for me. I had to pencil the whole grid before I just stared at it and saw the row 2 triple that helped me finish. Thanks as always!
Thank you for updating the NYT sudoku list. Your videos have helped me so much.🏁
9:21 for me. Hidden pairs and triples galore. Love it!
19:44 to solve. Definitely one of the harder puzzles of this series! Thanks Rangsk for sharing
A tough puzzle. I noticed the New York trick? on the top 3 boxes as well. 2,6, and 7 have to be restricted in the top row as well. Even then, I got stuck. Your patience is a virtue in locating those triplets. Without knowing them, it is very hard to solve this puzzle. Bravo, your patience!
Uniqueness helped me catch an error in my solve today. Never knew about it before watching your videos. Thanks!
Ah yeah, the classic "oh no I've made a deadly pattern..."
45mins this morning. I really got hung up on this one!
I generally play without making notations. I never saw, nor did I need to see, the triple 367 in row 2 to solve. Once we had the full segment 259 in row 2 within box 2, it was absolutely clear that the 8 in the lower row 3 in box 1 needed to jump above the full segment into row 1 in box 2 and thence, in row 2, col 7 of box 3, and the 4 above thee 8 and into row 3, col 5 of box 2. From there, the entire upper area is easily done. Many times, it is more simple to avoid pencil marking, except of course when we have a difficult logical issue to solve.Quite an enjoyable puzzle. The only area that seemed difficult to tackle was the central vertical chute with the vast empty spaces , but this quickly gets under control when we figure out the 18 remote pair in column 5.
Before anything with the triple in row 2. You could just place a big 8 in row 2, and then a big 4 in row 2 and the big 1 also.
The flow in this puzzle,if you start with band 3 , especially completing block 6 and 9, then going anti-clockwise…then the 18 in column 5, the breaks the puzzle
Interesting hard game
Interesting. I recognized the same patterns in the same order (after I broke my solve the first time). Spoiler below the fold...
The triple in r2 was huge (I marked the 4,8 pair in r2c3 at the same time), and leads to the 1,8 pair in c5. My solve collapsed after that, just like yours.
You found the 1 in row 2 but didn’t follow the rest of the row…
When you find a triple it often leaves a triple.
kind comment
The unique rectangle discussion at 18 minutes in was unnecessary as there is a 18 pair in column 5. This allows R1C5 to be a 3 and the puzzle just collapses after that.
It's almost like I said that afterwards. Also it's never unnecessary to teach something interesting.
@@Rangsk I didn't watch the entire solve. You make a fair point.
