    Hi Ashley, We are choosing paint for the rooms in our house. Could you tell me me if Benjamin Moore’s Wedding Veil (2125-70) is a warm, cool or neutral gray?
    I am assuming that the warm, neutral, cool qualities apply to grays as they do with whites. Our living room gets very little natural light. Thank you!

    Wow, best paint video I’ve seen and I’ve watched a ton. I just painted my north facing condo with Wimborne White (white with just a touch of yellow undertone), but I failed to take into account the lacquered white closets (which seem cool to me) and the high gloss white kitchen cabinets (also seem cool). On the plus side, I have warm hardwood floors, some oak furniture, and other soft touches… but those darn cabinets and closets are not working with the color scheme. If i could do it all over again i would have gone with All White or Chantily Lace. Wish I had watched your video before and not after! :)

    • @JoyfullyGrowingBlog
      @JoyfullyGrowingBlog  Год назад

      Ah yes, I've done that before too. A cool or pure white trim can definitely make a white with warm undertones look very yellow and/or dirty. Hope you were able to find a solution that worked for you. Thanks so much for watching!

    Also consider the colours being reflected onto the walls from outside the windows such as the green from trees or reflected off of prominent, fixed colours in the room ( ie: large area rugs or the fireplace brick colour, if it is prominent). The amount and type of artificial light you have in the space matters also. It makes it a challenge if you have lightbulbs with different kelvins in your room ( kelvins measure the amount of yellow or blue light the bulb gives off ). Numbers in the 2000s and lower glow warmer ( like candlelight) and those in the 4000s and up cast bluer light ( more like daylight and fluorescent light as the numer rises). Bulbs in the 3000s tend to be more neutral. The lumens describe the bulb brightness. The higher the number, the stronger and brighter the light given off. Even your lampshade material can affect your wall colour. Changing out your bulbs is an easy way to make your artificial light sources work with the paint colour you have chosen if it seems off at night.

    Does north or south facing matter for an interior bathroom without any windows? It's an attached townhouse. One wall is on the garage, the other is the neighbors, the 3rd ks the bedrokm wall and the door opens to a dark hallway without any can lights.
    The bathroom is a mix of warm and cool. With a lot of different whites going on from white quartz, to white tile, to white high gloss flat panel cabinets. But than I threw in canary yellow penny tile and I'm painting a feature wall for the tub in ultramarine blue and yellow to remind me of my trip to Morocco.

    • @JoyfullyGrowingBlog
      @JoyfullyGrowingBlog  2 года назад

      North or south light exposure doesn't matter as much for your example. I would just go off of the other design elements you have in the space as well as what the overall vibe is that you're going for when it comes to choosing a warmer or cooler white. When in doubt, go with a neutral white in you're unsure. I'd recommend using the peel and stick samples I linked in the description to get an accurate idea of what the colors will look like.

    Swiss coffee!

  • @med4u1
    @med4u1 2 года назад +8

    Hey Ashley new sub here. I'm having the hardest time deciding between Swiss Coffee and White Dove. I live in an apartment facing south west without too much natural light. I've played around with cooler greys in the past which all turned out very blue even Classic Grey by BM which is dubbed a warm color showed hints of blue. So far I've painted 2 walls one with Swiss Coffee and the other with White Dove. Both look great and don't think either would be a terrible choice. Swiss Coffee slightly warmer and a bit more yellow but I've only painted one wall so not sure about the overall look if I painted the entire apartment this color. I've also heard that White Dove can look green in some spaces so far not seeing much green. Ultimately, I'd like to pick the one with the most versatility as the fixed elements and furnishings may change over time. I''d like the space to feel modern and contemporary at the same time if that makes any sense, but not cold. Cozy and inviting. What would you suggest?

    • @JoyfullyGrowingBlog
      @JoyfullyGrowingBlog  2 года назад +5

      Hi there, happy to have you following along! With all of the info you offered I think, if it were me, I'd go with Swiss Coffee. You could even get it mixed at 75% if you're worried it may look a little too warm. But I don't think you can go wrong with either of those colors, they're both great and work well in south facing rooms- as long as there's at least some natural light. Hope that helps!

      I personally love the look of painting the trim the same color white as the walls (I've done this with both White Dove & Alabaster and it looks great!). But if you'd prefer a little more contrast, Simply White by Benjamin Moore is a great color for trim.

    Hi I am having a design dilemma😣our cabinets are painted Thunder by BM and in our open floor plan we have a TV accent wall that is BM Kendall Charcoal in the same large room. We are trying to choose a whole house white wall & trim color. We have swatches of BM Alabaster, SW Pure White, & BM Swiss Coffee on the wall trying to decide. Our floors are a beige & whitish creamy color and hardwood in the same room that are a burnt sienna type color. We get lots of natural light from north, west, and even a little south just because there are so many windows. What is your opinion on those colors? We were considering getting some other samples to try but we are not sure. Thank you in advance for your help!

    This video is so helpful! I particularly love the little details that have a big impact such as flat for the ceilings. We are buying a new home and painting the whole interior which is a medium gray Alabaster (we think) it has really great updated wood trims and even the cabinets match, all a medium color. It also has slate floors that are prominently dark green. Do you think Alabaster would go good with those colors?

    Hi thank you for your videos . I am interested in doing my whole house . I get a lot of morning sun . My floors are light maple and the woodwork is natural pine . I love the bright open feeling to make my space look larger . I am looking for a white color but not too stark . Something that would complement my wood . I also have maple kitchen cabinets . Also I have always used behr paint and if there is a color in that paint that is similar . Another question we always painted the ceiling white satin which was always different from the walls . I-would love to do the walls up to the ceiling the same color . I like that look . Does that make the room look bigger ? Also should the sheen be different. Like flat on the ceiling and satin on the walls . My home is not that big I just want to give it an illusion of being large . Thank you so much

    • @JoyfullyGrowingBlog
      @JoyfullyGrowingBlog  2 года назад +1

      Ahh love both of those colors! East facing rooms will get warm light coming in during the morning hours but then have very little natural light in the afternoon and evening- I would stick with a neutral shade of white like Chantilly Lace for an Easy facing room. But if you don't mind a warmer color in the mornings, something like Swiss Coffee would do well with the little natural light later in the day. But it'll most likely look fairly yellow in the am.

      I wanted a neutral white for my mostly north facing room with little to no light. I have all warm neutrals in here with plants. I got ultra pure white from behr because it has the highest reflective value over BM colours. However after painting one wall I discovered that the white although neutral tended to look blue and green especially with my plants and artificial lighting is on in the room. Is there another colour you would recommend ?

    Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams must have spent millions on an advertisement everyone suggest their product. If you decide to buy their product, you will have a hard time finding a store that carries their product, and their websites are in name only, absolutely no good.

      @JoyfullyGrowingBlog I actually went with White Moderne (Behr) mixed at a Benjamin Moore using Regal Pearl/Satin finish.
      A tried and true beautiful paint color with a hint of red to warm it up. Should've went with that as I've used in 2 prior homes.
      It has yellow black white pigment added in the "recipe" and a few drops of red.
      Neutralizes the green cast.
      It's a beautiful off white on the RGB scale is almost balanced with red slightly higher.
      LRV on this one in the 80s i believe but still can show off the trim using a balanced white trim.

    Please let me know if chantilly lace has a pink undertone. I would love to paint my walls this color. 😊

      Not that I know of. It has very little undertones at all. I say go for it!

    Would Chantilly lace work down a really long hallway that gets some indirect hits if sun? And then white dove in a great room with lots of tall windows, south facing?

    • @JoyfullyGrowingBlog

      I think both of those would look good. 👍🏻

      @@JoyfullyGrowingBlog well, I took a leap of faith 2 weeks ago and bought 10 gallons of Swiss coffee. So I was committed before it was ever on my walls and ceiling! Turns out, I needed an additional 10 gallons. And it’s perfect!

    What's your feelings about Sherwin williams Pure White and Extra White. Those are my only choices and I can't get in beforehand. I know pure white has both black and yellow and reads more neutral but is slightly warm and extra white can read blue. I want clean and fresh but not blue and cold. Everyone seems to love Pure White. I would probably love Chantilly lace or simply white. Thanks for any feedback!

      If I had to choose between Pure White and Extra White, I'd go with Pure White. I tend to lean more toward warm whites or neutrals over the cooler whites. Hope that helps!

    Loved this breakdown of White's. I'm curious about ceiling color to go with swiss coffee in a sm N facing bdrm.

      Glad you liked it! I love using the same white paint color on the walls and ceiling, but choosing a flat finish for the ceiling. if you prefer a little contrast, I think a neutral white like Chantilly Lace or maybe even Alabaster would look great next to Swiss Coffee in a north facing room.

    How about beige fixed elements in a North facing room 🤔? Great video. Than you!

      I would go with a warm white to compliment the beige elements. Warm whites also look great in North facing rooms, helps tone down the cool natural light coming in.

    I have a home that is south facing breakfast nook . the former owners painted blue. Its dark. Do you think swiss coffee would be good. I like warm colors. I have a north facing living room with a green couch. Would swiss work or white dove in the living room. All the rooms have just on window in each room so not tons of light. Thank you so much. My goal warm and cozy.

      I can't say for certain without seeing your space. Blue and green accents will definitely play arole and those colors very greatly. But Swiss Coffee is a great warm white if you prefer warm tones. Hope that helps!
