Most of the other foreigners I met in Japan chose to work in Japan, were very interested in learning Japanese language, Japanese culture and turning Japan into a fun experience. I did not meet anyone who was transferred there for work. Most had a moderate level of proficiency and learned quickly. However, the teachers with a Japanese wife or girlfriend spoke very little Japanese. They had their female companion do all the translating, etc. for them. As a result, they also had about one semester's worth of Japanese language skills after living there for years. My, "purpose," is to suggest you stop helping him so much with Japanese so he can learn faster.😆
