The thing I love most about Adele is her integrity.
She's always been a well-known name in the UK and people loved the person she was. Then she released Someone Like You and her career went crazy. She became one of the biggest names on the planet overnight and has stayed up there. But she's stayed the Adele that was around in the early 2000s. For that, I love her.
I think you meant to say Rolling In The Deep. That was her biggest break and Someone Like You shot her through the ceiling like right afterwards because of the consistency. But still she is excellent, knew she’d be great once I really sat down and gave this song a chance. Such talent!
Adele came around in 2008 not the early 2 thousands. She became famous in the UK first but only a year later was she famous in the US after her SNL performance. She had a number 1 album there and won 2 grammys. Rolling In The Deep made her a superstar but she was very famous before that anyway.

In 9th grade I did an interpretive dance with my team to this song that was about suicide awareness. Red ribbons on our wrists. We all sobbed the entire time. It's so hard to preform such a powerful piece. Still to this day I can't stop myself from crying.

I remember 2009 november 18th.. my boyfriend decided to end things. No reason. This song got me through the day. The week. The month.. on rpt play each day.. i dont know why. Now, when i look back do i realize he was a narcissist and my time was up as his supply. We had nothing in common. I suffered a pain i could not beyond.. thank heavens this song made sense to all my senses and i could get up and breath.. .. i will never forget..

So I was flying back from out-of-state this weekend, on a vacation celebrating one of my friends from childhood getting married, and the lyrics of this song popped into my head (I had a DnB remix of this that I downloaded years ago). I finally decided to track down the original, and I read about how this song was virtually ignored when it first came out (on wikipedia).
I had no idea it was the first song Adele ever wrote. And reading the lyrics in their entirety, I realize this song is so densely packed with meaning.
I've lived in the same town my entire life. 34 years.
I cannot listen to this song (or watch this music video) without crying.
Other people are what make life worth living.
I remember when I was 12 years old, I first moved here to the US. The change was so drastic that I fell into a deep depression state, I had no friends, no connections, the place looked cold and empty, and I was bullied for being brown. It was just me and my mother and she was already struggling too much to pay the bills after a recent diagnosis that she had, I didn’t wanna worry her, so I dealt with the pain on my own. I regretted coming to the US, I missed my friends and the rest of my family so much. This was one of the songs that I used to listen to cope. Listening to it now brought back strong repressed memories. My mom died a few months ago due to her illness, I never told her how I felt. She never got to see me as a US citizen.
