    I use two of these paired with a JCM900 for my Lead Sounds, each of them running into a Greenback loaded 1936 2x12. These Heads sound amazing

    • @X9Eric
      @X9Eric  Год назад +1

      Oh, I bet that JCM900 fills and ads the mid cut to the DSL and really pushes the solo tones!
      That is the one thing I have found is that I can get IMHO a size riffing tone the DSL but that tone does not work for solos. Then if I set it up for solos the riffing tone suffers, so I compromise them. Sounds like you cracked the case on this issue, thanks for sharing!!!!

    Vietnam made one - actually it doesn‘t disappoint. I can get vintage sound, blues sound, metal sound, actually everything. It‘s a great allrounder from my point of view and pretty affordable. But yeah: the lead channel is heavier in contrast to the JCM 2000 DSL/TSL series

    Hey Eric, how have you been? I'm a little late to the party on this video but it is great as usual. I love Marshall tone..period. I hear in my head, a piece of every hard rock album ever made with this amp. Thick and beefy, and mean. I'm a fan of straight into the amp (tuner and gate only) so the OD pedals actually take some of the organic tone away from my ears (purely subjective everyone) but Marshall will always be the benchmark and the DSL provides that by the bucket.

    I had a couple of DSL100HRs. They were great sounding amps. Unfortunately, I had to send mine back most likely due to some power issues in my house not playing well and causing some weird sounds in both models that I got. They were awesome though.

      Hey Josh_RexIt that's a TOTAL bummer. Sorry to hear that. The price we pay for TUBE amps I suppose. My 6505 + is noisy and the DSL is quite kooky eh, LOL.

      @@X9Eric sorry I just saw your reply here. I landed on the EVH 5150iii stealth 50 watt then grabbed a 6505+. After that I sold the 50 and grabbed the Stealth 100, it’s been a journey lol

      @@joshrexben no kidding, I am on the same ride right now! Looking very hard at a Stealth 100W 6L6 right now. How much of a difference is the 100W Stealth compared to the 50W Stealth and even the 6505? VERY interested to learn from you!!!

    • @joshrexben
      @joshrexben Год назад

      @@X9Eric so the Stealth 100 is just a beast man. In my opinion and to my ears, the 50 is a tight and focused amp but the 100 is just absolutely huge and hairy sounding. The blue channel has a slightly different texture to it but with that added low end thump. When I was first going through and comparing them the 50 sounded very tight and articulate, the 6505+ was a less articulate but huge wall of sound version, then the Stealth 100 was articulate but wild on the low end and still makes the 6505+ sound smaller when compared side by side. It is a tad dryer sounding that the Peavey just like the 50. The cool thing about the Stealth 100 too is the red channel with no boost sounds like the 6505+ with a boost. The gain level of the blue channel affects the aggression of the red channel too. And if you crank the green channel gain it sounds like a Plexi. All in all, it is an awesome amp but I feel that most people will do just fine with the 50 given that most of that low end punch will get cut out when you’re mixing. For the price difference too, I’m not entirely sure that the extra $1,000 was worth those extra features especially if you already have the 50 but I do love that amp through and through. One other thing to mention is that I feel like EVH might be going through a quality control problem phase right now as I never had any problem with the 50 but I first got the 100 and had a bad foot switch / channel switching mechanism. I sent it back to Sweetwater and got a replacement for it which seemed fine until a few months in I noticed that it would change channels on its own while I was playing /recording. I would have it set on the red channel then I’d notice it sounded very weird and I’d check it out and see the green channel engaged along with the red channel at some point. I’d also be playing on the blue then it’d just randomly switch itself to green, so I had to send the stealth back to EVH HQ for them to take a look at it. Hopefully this helps, if you want to hear some sound samples I think the last 3-4 videos on my channel have been with the stealth 100.

      @@joshrexben Thank you SO much for making the time to share your experience. Great descriptions of the 3 amps as it really does provide a glimpse into the way they perform. Sounds like the Stealth 100 really is as awesome as it's reputation, thank you for confirming that!
      I have heard of a few unfortunate issues with brand new EVH 100 watt amps and hope that EVH have resolved their QC issues for future purchasers of these products, and I am sure they will.
      What did EVH HQ find with your Stealth?
      Thanks for the invite I am off to your channel to check-em out!

      IMHO the DSL has a different distortion than the EVH 5153 and to my ears EL34s provide this mid/bass kinda flubby thing where the 6L6s offer a tighter lower bass thing.

      Great question, I have tried to make a 1 year ownership video of this guitar but keep getting unhappy with it because it beats the guitar up pretty bad and I do not wish to do that. Truth is I love it BUT it did require love, sweat and money to get it to where it is today. I had to have the ebony fretboard leveled (developed a weird warp) and then re-fretted. I also had jumbo frets installed what came on it. NOW it is awesome. Hope that helps!

      Vietnam is a More reliable amp in my research.......I Know certain Years of the "British made" JCM's had LOTS of problems with Circuit boards completely frying out!!....impossible to fix, have to get a new motherboard basically. I remember someone saying the Vietnam version was the "updated" Reliable model, and easier to service or something......the only problems with Vietnam was Popping and Clicking noises sometimes....but I've had my DSL100hr for over 5 years, never had any issues......popped maybe 1 or 2 times, never had an issue other than that, could just be tubes, loose guitar jack, could be anything......It's been a reliable tank for me.....I even leave it out in the garage year round, Lol.....the value has started to climb on the new DSL's....I think people are realizing how good they are.
