  • For those of you who have followed this coaster's construction, thanks for sticking around! I know it's disappointing when people cancel a good coaster concept, so I'm really glad I was able to finish this one.
    I've finished the automation! The coaster has a fully functional control panel, which can be operated in either manual or automatic mode. In manual mode, the panel prompts you to take the next action by flashing the correct button. In automatic mode, it cycles the coaster without user input.

    Probably the most important component in the automation is the encoder on the launch reset motor. This measures the rotation very precisely and allows it to stop the catch car in the same place every time. I also really enjoy watching the little arm push the train backwards - this engages the chain dog with the catch car right before the launch. You can see real coasters do this too (I know that Intamin hydraulic launches do, at least).
    Lastly, how do you feel about the rocky texture I'm testing out at the top of the volcano? Should I cover the whole mountain in it, cover only part of it, or leave the entire thing open so you can see inside?

    This is a very intricate system. Extremely cool. Kind of operates like a real roller coaster.

    Holy Sh*t! This is amazing! Your quality of your rides always consistently amaze me! Even with a relatively small footprint you still manage to pull of some of the best K'nex Rollercoasters I have ever seen! You are literally inspirational and I hope I can finally complete a Knex Rollercoaster and you are giving me motivation to do so! You are such a legend! Well done! :D

    Oh my word... you did such an absolutely incredible job. And the control panel took it over the top! Words can express my amazement! This is the kind of level of automation/control I would have loved to implement had I kept up the knex. :)

    Oooh, are you going to build a full paper mache volcano around parts of the roller coaster? That would be really cool!

      Bithor Gaming Yes I am! You can expect to see plenty of the rockwork in the final video, which I'm about halfway done with right now.

    This is insanely awesome! You might as well build real coasters. As for the volcano, I say cover half of it.

    • @RyanONeill13
      @RyanONeill13  6 лет назад

      00mundercover Thanks! That's what I'm leaning toward too - covering half. Which half do you think would look best?

    • @lokingbob
      @lokingbob 6 лет назад +2

      You should cover the side that the coaster is launched on. That way when you look at the coaster from the station you see the volcano and as you rotate to the back you can see all of the track.

    • @00M_undercover
      @00M_undercover 6 лет назад

      I second Logan's comment. Cover the half that faces the launch side.

    This is really really cool! It kinda reminds me of jokers jinx at Six Flags America but at the same time it’s unique and nothing like it! And seriously you need to make roller coasters for amusement parks because your awesome!

    I think a cool half covered concept would be good. If you covered the whole thing I feel it would take away from the beauty/consept of the knex coster. Love your build btw. Huge fan

    I would be better if it resets the launcher while the car is riding the coaster so the next launch time will be shorter. Buy anyways, I like a lot, it look awesome!

    • @RyanONeill13
      @RyanONeill13  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you! I thought about having it reset as soon as it launches, but I think it's better to have one thing going on at a time. That way you can focus on the coaster going through the layout without the reset motor being all loud. That would certainly improve efficiency though!

    What if you used the various K'Nex panels to make the volcano shell instead of paper mache? The coaster automation is a awesome too, I see it's evolved over the years.

    • @RyanONeill13
      @RyanONeill13  6 лет назад

      Hmm, that's an interesting idea. I've seen people use the white snowflake connectors to make the ground look like snow. Maybe I could use the black ones for the rock texture! Although I don't have enough connectors, and I've already bought the paper to make the rock texture.
