This women are so incredible, and they all answered with extreme veracity, which I really appreciate. I wish there were an Asian actress on the panel as well though!!!
How? She just lied saying she paid “everyone” that worked in “M&M” bonuses when that wasn’t true. Someone that worked on set spoke out about it and zendaya team came after her. How is that being an incredible person?
This was weirdly cold and impersonal. There was very little interaction between the actresses, which I believe is the main draw of this series. Also a somewhat lighter tone would’ve been appreciated, while still addressing some of the pressing social issues and craft details they were asked about. Kate and Glenn (both of whom I admire as artists and as people) especially came across kinda... snobbish, lacking any kind of self deprecating humor or recognition of their privileged position.
yeah kinda disappointed by Glenn because on her social media or other interviews she doesn't come across that way at all, she seemed a bit uneasy though in front of the computer, maybe that's why, but Kate on the other hand has come across as a snob for years now, one of the reasons I stopped liking her and I used to be a huge fan.
agree zendaya is everywhere and yet there are much more talented actors out there. that shows that she and her team curated very well the business part lol
It seems that actresses who love the craft and take it seriously are always the best actors...their goal isn’t to be a “movie star” but to expand their skill and creativity.
But I don't think they should give her a sympathy Oscar. Surely an honorary Oscar is better? That honor and prestige, I imagine would have so much more value, instead of "arg shame let's give her this one coz it's overdue anyway".
@@jusletursoulglobaby If she wins, she will be the oldest actress to win her first oscar. If she loses, she would be the only living person with the highest number of oscar nominations but without a victory. Either way, she will be making a record atleast...if not history! 😅
@@encheknizam True that! Still can't believe that she lost for Dangerous Liaisons...it's one of the best performances ever by any actor, in my opinion!!
When the brain surgeon makes a slight mistake, people die or are disabled forever. When an actor makes a mistake, they don't get the role or they get a bad review. Glenn really needs some damn perspective. Anyone can study acting at any age, get better and maybe even book some small roles. Someone with resources (like a freaking Neurosurgeon...)has an even better shot because they can drop everything and do the work without having to worry about finances. He wasn't saying, "How do I become Anthony Hopkins in a month?"
I get your point but also, I think that's not what prompted her strong reaction. He said specifically that he's depressed as a surgeon which sounds like he wanted to do something lighter and simpler. But although incomparable, it is not a simple work. Just because there aren't literal lives on the line in my job as a teacher, it doesn't mean it's not exhausting and challenging ... so I really don't think she was the one comparing their jobs but he was.
It would seem that if a physician, especially a brain surgeon, can memorize the parts of the body, they could memorize a script and character gestures/mannerisms.
@@monikavec yes I do agree to what you said. And maybe she seemed outraged because of how the surgeon said it when it happened. Something we will never know. From the way I see it, it seemed like the surgeon was the one looking down on actors, as if it is a work that is not that distressing. It is ironic seeing how glenn and kate get hate by random people who don't know them for sharing a story or their opinion about something. Being an actor isn't as easy as people may think, this is what they were saying and it answers the interviewer's question. That's it.
I do not understand how Glenn Close can be offended by that brain surgeon. He was coming from a vulnerable place. He’s miserable, he wants to switch jobs, he thinks maybe acting would be more of a fun-fulfilling path. Because it IS creative and beautiful and probably cathartic to perform, so of course? So many ordinary people daydream of an actor’s life. And if you live in LA, it’s really not that far fetched. Anyway, ppl can be actors and love acting without being high caliber THR Roundtable-level actors.
same, like didnt she (and all actors) start off one day by thinking they wanted to be an actor? whats to say the brain surgeon didnt have amazing talent just because he hadn't been doing it since he was 10
Completely agree. Also her statement that only trained actors could ever do theatre - snobby and reductive. What's her definition of "trained"? Tertiary, 3+ years study? Repertory? Short courses? Year-long weekend courses?
Glenn Close and Zendaya have very different careers and backgrounds. Glenn started doing theater at age 27. Zendaya got into show business before she was a teenager (she's currently only 24 years old!). There's no way Glenn knows what it's like to have a career at such a young age and learn the business side of things that early (while also being a POC in a racist society). Glenn is obviously also a businesswoman (she owns multiple properties, has funded movie projects, owned businesses, etc.) so her trying to downplay that aspect of her career just comes off as shady and hypocritical. I want to believe this interview would have played out differently if they were all in the same room together, but alas...
Zendaya and the rock plays themselves in every movies lol. Great actors do justice to their roles by gaining weight, losing weight, wear prosthetics change accents and even go to the point where they study the subject how they breath and mannerism for months and months. Zendaya looks the same, talks the same, acts the same in every of her movies just like the rock 😂😂😂
I’m sure Glenn has assistants and accountants who manage most of her business ventures for her. I don’t think she was trying to shut zendaya down, just that it didn’t apply to her
What a group of extraordinary women 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 such a treat to hear them speak on their experiences and their career. Thank you for the gift of your knowledge 🙌🏽
I’m just going to say it. We were waiting for a female moderator, and this woman was rapid firing questions without allowing for reflection, or communal commentary. One of the best parts of “the Roundtable” are the stories that spur from the others actors, writers, directors, songwriters and the powerful moments, advice and introspective dialogues about their craft. This was poorly moderated.
@@AdamC2013 it makes it harder BUT I've had monthly roundtables with a group of vocal coaches and there is space for banter and cross-talk...you just have to enable it (for example using signs).
Each of these women are so gifted and lovely. I miss these conversations in person, but I'm glad we still have them in this format, different though it may be.
I think Carey Mulligan or Vanessa Kirby will win Best Actress in Leading Role and Glenn Close will take Best Actress in Supporting Role this year 2021.
This was interesting because it seems like there’s a level of disconnect for some of the actors at the table when it comes to recognizing the privilege that they have. I understand that acting isn’t easy but venting about how difficult their job is during a time like this seems uncalled for (there are a lot of jobs that have it much, much worse on a daily basis). I’m glad actors like Zendaya highlight their gratitude.
Yeah. Those comments from Kate and Glenn in particular would prove ridiculously tone-deaf even without Corona. Acting may not be easy FOR THEM but when you consider the compensation they receive for working so "hard" their words really just reek of white fragility.
@@Pistolwhipperz I'm glad others are noticing how deeply offensive it is to say "acting is hard" when frontline workers are literally dying and/or surrounded by death every single day. I never thought about Close or Winslet that much either way but this is disgusting.

agree to that❤
Zendaya is incredible person.
How? She just lied saying she paid “everyone” that worked in “M&M” bonuses when that wasn’t true. Someone that worked on set spoke out about it and zendaya team came after her. How is that being an incredible person?
By incredible, you mean incredibly overrated, then yes.
@@Starkardur When someone says the truth, people like you call them snobs.
@@manantial773 example? what do you mean the truth? please elaborate?
YUP very privileged position
It's because it's on video call during depressing stressful times not a regular face to face round table. That's why they sound more cold and formal.
You should’ve had Amanda Seyfried for Mank and viola Davis for ma rainy’s black bottom
and Olivia Colman.
@@encheknizam Absolutely Olivia Coleman
agree zendaya is everywhere and yet there are much more talented actors out there. that shows that she and her team curated very well the business part lol
I was def missing Viola.
Glenn deserves to win an Oscar she’s been way overdue.
She already has 2 Oscars she’s a great actress don’t get me wrong but someone else deserves to win

Vanessa's performance was amazing.
I could listen to Carey all day and all night. Her voice is utterly gorgeous and mellifluous.
Vanessa Kirby is DIVINE 👑
Vanessa and Andra are the best ones here in my opinion - not that is a competition but I seemed way more engaged listening to them.
It seems that actresses who love the craft and take it seriously are always the best actors...their goal isn’t to be a “movie star” but to expand their skill and creativity.
I mean, Kate, Carey and Vanessa are beautiful, but it's the British accent that kills me. I love their accents
Glenn Close to the Academy Members: I won’t be ignored again. lol Please nominate her and actually give her the Oscar! Thanks
She better win. She is long overdue !!!!!!
She MUST win it this time! So many amazing performances by her and she still has no Oscar to her name. Come on, Academy! I'd vote for her if I could.
But I don't think they should give her a sympathy Oscar. Surely an honorary Oscar is better? That honor and prestige, I imagine would have so much more value, instead of "arg shame let's give her this one coz it's overdue anyway".
@@prettyinpink1991 They will award her the trophy for the great performance in Hillbilly Elegy not simply because of sympathy.
Hope Glenn Close gets an Oscar nomination for Hillbilly Elegy, if not a win!
She wins or loses, either way she would be creating history!
how? how is she creating history?
She better win. She is long overdue !!!!!!
She will get a nomination, I hope she wins this time. she might win for Sunset Boulevard comming next year.
These round table videos are always outstanding. Please keep them coming.
Kate Winslet has been snobbed in this award season. So unfair.
I agree with you. There's no harm in asking for advice about how to pursue a new dream.
Do you mind showing me the time stamp for that?
same, like didnt she (and all actors) start off one day by thinking they wanted to be an actor? whats to say the brain surgeon didnt have amazing talent just because he hadn't been doing it since he was 10

Completely agree. Also her statement that only trained actors could ever do theatre - snobby and reductive. What's her definition of "trained"? Tertiary, 3+ years study? Repertory? Short courses? Year-long weekend courses?
Glenn Close has a fresh aura. She's gorgeous for her age.
I'm in love with Vanessa's eyes and voice
Z, you’re the best!!
I want to believe this interview would have played out differently if they were all in the same room together, but alas...
i also got that vibe from glenn
Zendaya and the rock plays themselves in every movies lol. Great actors do justice to their roles by gaining weight, losing weight, wear prosthetics change accents and even go to the point where they study the subject how they breath and mannerism for months and months. Zendaya looks the same, talks the same, acts the same in every of her movies just like the rock 😂😂😂
@@qwerty11222 goes to show you haven't seen anything she was in
I’m sure Glenn has assistants and accountants who manage most of her business ventures for her. I don’t think she was trying to shut zendaya down, just that it didn’t apply to her
Yet she is still a dull actress who won an Emmy for playing herself.
It is likely a consequence of a zoom roundtable
@@AdamC2013 it makes it harder BUT I've had monthly roundtables with a group of vocal coaches and there is space for banter and cross-talk...you just have to enable it (for example using signs).
I mean Glenn Close and Kate Winslet are acting royalty, so I can understand Zendaya's nerves.
if the academy gives vanessa the oscar i will know peace
YES!

I agree but I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be Viola, and she also really deserves it.
Each of these women are so gifted and lovely. I miss these conversations in person, but I'm glad we still have them in this format, different though it may be.
Kate Winslet is so classy. One of my favorite women in Hollywood, hands down.
I think Carey Mulligan or Vanessa Kirby will win Best Actress in Leading Role and Glenn Close will take Best Actress in Supporting Role this year 2021.
The interviewers questions allowed no interaction between the actresses. Not very engaging watch.
I think it is a consequence of zoom.
@@AdamC2013
No, I disagree, the Actor’s Zoom roundtable was very interactive, warm and conversational.
These roundtables have to be sponsored by Apple or something cause every roundtable has everyone wearing airpods...

Kate always looks forward to compliment and help you get actresses❤️ A woman with a real heart
Zendaya. That's it. That's the comment.
Very clever. Give that one a medal.
