Electric Experiments can you explain in simple terms how this circuit works? I just realized that the diagram is wrong, I've been trying to read it for good half an hour with no sucess :) So when the permanent magnet aproaches the coils it creates emf and that emf somehow swithces the electromanet off so the permanent magnet can escape the pull of the electromagnet? and the the cicle repeats? Is that correct?
I think the transistor here acts as a switch, sensing the approaching/receding magnet and accordingly connecting/disconnecting the battery, to provide an electromagnetic push
So really positive goes to the middle of the transistor and negative goes to both top ends of the coils and the outer transistor leads go to the two bottom ends of the coils?
How about channeling some HV sparks along an ultraviolet laser. It would be cool to see the sparks "favor" the beam path, even on a small scale. Like the videos, thanks.

Clearly this electromagnet is powered by dc, so it could as well be an ordinary magnet right there. So the only energy provided by batteries is used to heat the wires. Am I wrong? So where does the energy come from?
