I created a food forest/wild life habitat in my yard. It's only 1/3 acre but is full of birds, bees, and other wild life. It's only taken a few years to become a forest. I have planted native plants but the birds have been bringing in all kinds of native plant seeds, including trees. There is a lot to eat for me and for the wildlife, including a family of chipmunks, one of which likes to sit on my front steps with my cat. I live in an area of Minnesota, which gets very cold. I never water it. It in the middle of town and surrounded by yards that only have grass and a few trees.
We need tens of 1000s of Subhendu to have any hole is saving this planet. Kudos to Subhendu, and people like him, for this afforestation work he's doing! 🎉🙏🏽🤘🏽
According to IUCN, the World Conservation Union, “80% of original forest that covered the earth 8000 years ago has been cleared, fragmented, or degraded by modern society”. Over nine million hectares of forest lands are lost each year throughout the World ! You are amazing - simple love it - ... lets make our planet green again !!!!
This is where big corporation/companies should sponsor their projects. Now aday modern technology has enable desert to be planted with trees to provide green.
I created one on what used to be only grass in 1/3 acre and it did not cost me much because I used native plants seeds and planted some fruit and nuts trees as very small seedling for very little. I don't think I have spent even a $500 in 11 years or less than $50 a year. After things started growing, it attracted many birds and beneficial insects, which bring in seeds so many of the things growing were not planted by me.
You claim you are creating 'maintenance-free' urban forests? Impossible. All trees in urban areas require maintenance and management to achieve goals. Only trees in nature preserves do not require maintenance as individuals, and even then, nature preserves and conservation areas are managed by humans (albeit the approach is sometimes 'hands-off'). Generally they are managed actively think (prescribed burn, seeding, etc.)

Add Geoff Lawton's swales to the pre-planning stage to improve this. Search RUclips for Geoff Lawton.
