- In this video I show you how to make a 3,000 volt taser from a fly zapper. Once I remove the high voltage generator I teach a little bit about dielectric breakdown and why pointy surfaces can breakdown air easier than curved surfaces. I only get shocked a few times throughout the process! I show you the plasma that forms and also talk about what a plasma actually is. Then at the end I make my taser and even shock myself with it. Then I show it shocking an apple in order to spare my arm. By the end of it I was shocked 3-4 times and my whole body hurt!

you can measure the voltage by taking some resistors to divide the voltage.Then you can mesure the voltage at one of the resistors and calculate the voltage of your fly trap.(you should know the inner resistance of your voltmeter.)

I was wondering if you added a few super capacitor's to the circuit, would you think that it would make the voltage go higher dependant on the capacitors.

3000 volt isnt much. You can buy high voltage inverter module very cheap from ebay that produces 20-30 thousand volt, now that has a big spark

If you film the plasma arc on a dark background, it shows up better for demonstrations. Just thought that might be useful because your videos are awesome and I suspect you’ll make more related to plasma 😊🙌📚

Great vid! What happens if you continue pressing the on button until the battery runs out? I ask because mine stops creating arc after about 2 seconds, then I have to wait. Is my module broken? Do I need capacitors?
Would it overload the circuit if you swapped the 2 AA batteries for a single 9V battery

Good! But more effective if you make your own from scratch. 3v-6v high power convertor up to 400kV three x 18500 batteries wired to it and a couple of nails. You can kill.

I already had some 18650s, good thing about those, they are rechargeable, rated at 3.7V each 7.4V is just fine.

Since you didn't solder together a voltage muliplier with ceramic capacitors, and diodes, so you can't get a big arc that can jump a larger gap. 10,000-40,000 volts is enough high voltage for me.

Most of the current was flowing through the fruit. But it's definitely not the safest way to hold the fruit barehanded like that, in case of a more powerful high voltage source...
I made one like this, but i dont want to stab anyone with sharp nails, so their reversed with the head outwards. I also replaced those puny 1.5 batteries with a 9v battery. IT HURTS LIKE HELL

Most store-bought tasers run in the 100kv's region.
Anyway, this is a lot more effective if you remove the bleeder resistor accross the tank cap at the end of the circuit so it will hold a charge even after the button is released. Personally, I'd just remove the whole HV DC end of the circuit and build my own voltage multiplier and solder that to the HV AC end of the mini transformer, but then it isn't as simple as this one is.

This is a stun gun, NOT a taser. Tasers shoot their electrodes.

Well, both are used by hand either way lol. Stun gun sounds like it would be something that shoots electrodes but it's actually the taser.
technically couldn't you just buy two rackets connect the positives to the positives and negatives to the negatives and make this double the bolts ans amps?
