I was listening to this song with my daughter couple years ago and she was about 24 at the time. She insisted it was new and it was by Rascal Flatts.
I told her, no, I was listening to this tune in my Black Dodge short-box when she was four years old. She didn't believe me and I couldn't prove it at the time and dropped it.
I few weeks ago I re-discovered the original and, as much as I love my daughter, the old man jammed her with the facts.
    No response to date

Thank you - nice. This lick was cut on vinyl. By definition a CD cannot acheive the sound quality of vinyl. But that aside, Rascal Flatts can't tie this.

    • @daviderickson7030
      @daviderickson7030 7 лет назад

Thanks Joseph and you're probably correct. If memory serves, the studio would record on 8mm and then the records were cut later on vinyl.
I recall being in studio when I was about eight and these big reels were going around and around on the wall, and large ladies that looked like librarians were pulling off their headsets and stopping the musicians "No, that's not right. Cut and start over at bar 12". Or something like that.

Life's like a road that you travel on
When there's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There's a world outside every darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where the brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore
We won't hesitate, break down the garden gate
There's not much time left today
    Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long
    If you're going my way
I want to drive it all night long
Through all these cities and all these towns
It's in my blood and it's all around
I love you know like I loved you then
This is the road and these are the hands
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights
The Khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights
Knock me down get back up again
You're in my blood I'm not a lonely man
    There's no load I can't hold
Road so rough, this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
    Tell 'em we're survivors
    Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long
    If you're going my way
I want to drive it all night long
    Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long
    If you're going my way
I want to drive it all night long
There was a distance between you and I
    A misunderstanding once but now
We look it in the eye
    There's no load I can't hold
Road so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
    Tell 'em we're survivors
    Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long

A DEPRESSING amount of people I know thought this song was written by Rascal Flatts. I grew up with this version and then when I heard the cover for the first time I was like "The fuck is this country-ass bullshit?!"

All this time, I thought Rascal Flatts were the first ones to sing this massive hit! I can hear the influence
Something about that harmonica that puts a different layer to it 👍

People are missing the most important points about the *Tom Cochrane* vs Rascall Flatts thing.
*Tom* can perform this live whilst giving the lyrics *power* and improvising on a *harmonica* whereas Rascall Flatts has to use *auto tune* meaning the harmony is fake and they don't even have a harmonica playing. *Literally no harmony anywhere. (Lol)*

The Rascal Flatts version is so sterile... it sounds like it's been boiled and locked behind glass.

    • @Guts-the-Berserker
      @Guts-the-Berserker 7 лет назад +10

No, not every original is better, THIS one is for sure better as the artist has much more skill and is multi tasking and purposefully contrasting his singing style in the beginning compared to later and he actually harmonizes without auto-tune and uses a harmonica in between singing for fucks sake. If you want an example of a cover that is better than the original look at All along the watchtower by Jimi Hendrix or Hurt by Johnny Cash. I find that more often than not originals tend to have more soul and effort put into them but sometimes there's instances in which covers outshine the original in almost every way imaginable. I like music if it's good not because it's old and not because it's new, those are shallow reasonings.

    • @CaapriceTube1
      @CaapriceTube1 3 года назад +2

@@fireiswet7809 lol, I know that. That was my point. The song has that all-American, heartland rock feel that if tom petty (RIP) had gotten a hold of would've made the song even more massive that it already is.
