Da Nang , right ? Love the Beach there, easy to get around , super chilled place but there and Hoi An gets battered a bit by typhoons every once in a while , but apart from that its grand 😁🤙
I was a bit sad because I thought you was going to leave Vietnam. But if you're just gonna leave Saigon, that's a very good choice especially when you can work remotely. Saigon is too polluted, we stay here just because we dont have many other choices 🤭 I'll move to Dalat if I have choices.
Thanks Le, yes i had the choice so i think there's healthier places to live here. I may have to move back to Saigon at some point which is ok as it's a cool city as well.
Thanks for all the videos.. you are my friend already even though we never know each other much. Gonna miss your future videos but do let us know your new channel if there is one..
"so I'm going to...Danang!" We love Danang, and would love to spend more time there, but those darn visas just make it unworkable at this time. Good luck with the move :)
You should check out Dong Hoi. Yes it doesn’t have the conveniences as in Saigon and Danang but I feel it’s a good place for clean air and excersing. Its clean and quiet. It has beaches, River’s, and mountains. It has 1.5 hours flight from Saigon and 30 mins from Hanoi.
This is the reason why vn shouldnt be taking in lot of western companies that pollute the air and water just to give the people jobs, this is another reason why the chinese dont want lot of companies in their country, china is starting to kick them out.
I assume that Da Nang is a reasonable compromise between an international, cosmopolitan environment and a healthier, less stressful location. So older you get, so more you might prefer a quieter city. I am 64 and I chose to move into a village in North-Vietnam, 40 km away from Hai Phong. So that works perfectly for me. Originally I wanted to move to Da Nang but the course of my life went into a different direction - and I made peace with it although I still feel attracted by Da Nang. The ambient noise which I have now (roosters, ducks, pigs, birds etc.) isn't bothering me at all and living in a rural village has its own charme (if you can stand that). I am curious to learn what will be your next move. Good luck with moving. In North-Vietnam moving is totally easy. Zero stress. I experienced the people in the North as very supportive, fair and honest. Only Hanoi is really terrible. The level of traffic and pollution in Hanoi is an assault on my well-being. Luckily I am not often there. Most things I can manage in Hai Duong or Hai Phong. These cities are "manageable" for me.
Full credit to u mate 4 staying there 5 years...5 days was 2 much 4 us lol...enjoying De Nang n Hoi An tho...yep slow and touristy at our age . Cheers n good luck on new location.
You are right. In any country, developed or developing, air pollution, waste pollution, noise pollution, food safety, health and safety, and all the basic ingredients for healthy and safe environment for life to thrive should be primary consideration for longer term dwelling. Vietnam still has a lot to improve
Danang I hope it will be better for you for all those reasons. Your reasons are enough for me to maybe visit Saigon for a few days, definitely not a good reason to stay any longer than that.Pollution and all those reasons listed minus the bad landlord I think is pretty bad in south east Asia because of the smog laws are thrown out the door. It's probably worse for you to exercise in Saigon than it is if you are not outside in the bad air.
AQI actually changed my mind about relocating to Vietnam. It's not only bad in HCMC, but in Hanoi and even Hoi An (how?) I have, shall we say, "cardiac challenges" and air quality's important. Too bad.
Some similar issues here hence my move from Saigon to Danang. Unfortunately the air still isn't great in Da Nang. Many industrial zones seems to wrap around the outskirts of the cities across the country here with little to no regulations that are enforced in regards to pollution. Maybe that's why Samsung and Apple love it here so much!
Da Nang or Hoi An are the good options, get married to a decent local woman then your life will be great (if you haven't got one yet). You know there is Irish pub in Hoi An now, 30 minutes' drive from Da Nang by the way. All the best mate
Are you moving to Da Nang ??? 🤔 good luck with your moving. I think at least in the next 10 to 20 years there will be a lot of constructions going on in Vietnam. 👍
I'm young by the definition you gave and I also found Saigon too much. The total chaos of the traffic is the main thing, and yeah the pollution definitely isn't great. Even by the standards of big SE cities it's unusually bad there for both these issues.
Good luck. I'd go to Danang. Danang is hard to beat. In my mind only Dalat might be more comfortable as far as health, climate, stuff like that. But Danang has a lot more to do. I have health issues too and my wife, who is Viet, thinks Danang lacks the good health care services but I doubt that, really.
To add to that, my health care issues are dead serious, mostly pancreas stuff, I look healthy but I can get real sick real fast. Depending on your situation I hope you look at that. Pollution can kill you but a serious medical condition can kill you faster if you can't get proper treatment. Sorry a bit morbid but I did appreciate your honesty and wanted to share mine
Once you leave the bigger cities like HN and SGN healthcare does go down in that English speaking Drs are rarer and experience is less. People will travel from all over VN to go to Cho Ray hospital in HCM due to the drs there. But if you have a manageable condition medication is generally cheap and testing etc easy to do in many places here i'd say. One of my main concerns is the impact of the pollution etc on longer term health in the bigger cities.
The pollution makes hanoi and Saigon unlovable for the long term, I had to leave due to chronic severe rhinitis that never disappeared, could not sleep because sneeze uncontrollably all night. Another friend eventually left due to severe acid redux and stomach problems etc aggravated by hanoi pollution which all went away after he left to live in a small seaside town.
Sensible move for a bike rider to leave Saigon. The air pollution is a real issue especially during winter. If Danang is your detination then you probably won't escape noise especially near the beach. When I was there it resembled a construction site. So many buildings going up. I love Saigon but will only go when the air is a little fresher.
Saigon is a great city but I totally get it.. ya get to a certain point where Peace & Quiet and fresh air is more important than anything else... even coming back to VN after the C pandemic I will only be doing a few months in Saigon then moving to somewhere quieter and more peaceful... re the landlord, sadly that is a downside for sure.. can obviously see this is a sensitive topic for ya, hope ya find peace and happiness wherever ya go to next... I think you on a good thing as you always indicate towards Danang... its a lovely place and I think much better place to live...
He would not rent with them a few years if the landlord so bad, there are thousand of option available in Saigon . These are expat crooks and dishonest and we know all about them.
lets see, at the end of the video You say Im going to, end of part one. Id say you're going to lose your deposit, but that should not slow you down. Saigon is a major city but lacks the benefits of a what I would consider a world-class city. It has the pollution you mentioned, basically no mass transit, overcrowded, rats, stink construction everywhere and dirt. Im not going to drive here because it is crazy bad, it's so dangerous just crossing a street, break your ass on the broken pavements or get run over by a motorbike on the sidewalk as the driver speeds out of an unseen alley. The construction noise, the constant honking of horns, the trash and the stink. Plus, the food and coffee are not that great in my opinion, especially the bakeries. The friendly people, warm climate, and low cost of living is whats attractive to me, definitely not the coffee can't find decent coffee beans here. I did find a lovely wife, and we will relocate when the lease is up. Da Nang is nice, Natrang is also good, even Vung Tau is better.
Thanks Bill. It wasn't too bad in the end with the landlord, i'll update soon on that. I agree with all your points, will be glad to get out of the big city for something smaller and more relaxed...
@@expatnam a clean modern big city has more appeal to me than a small town, but Saigon is severely lacking, I would be long gone if not for meeting my wife in Saigon. Good luck wherever you land.
If you are really worried about your health, move to another area. There are alot of places to chill out in this fabulous country. Sounds like you are useing alot of excuses to go back to your home land.
Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Da Lat, Vungtau or Nha Trang are cheaper, with beautiful beaches where you can jog/exercise and better in terms of air pollution. I'd choose Da Nang because it's close to Hoi An, and Hoi An is the beautiful historical town, only 30 minutes motorbike drive between Da Nang and Hoi An. I fell in love with Da nang the moment I visited. Da Lat is also super peaceful and lovely city. I don't blame you, I really like Saigon but wouldn't live there because of the cost and the air quality.

All good spots for different reasons.
