Is the fan only purpose to cool the motor? Hypothetically do I need a fan if I’m running the motor/brake in -5 freezer

Hello! Yes, the purpose of the fan is to have constant airflow across the stator. This is why if the motor is running too slow (i.e. less than 10Hz) there needs to be a forced vent fan instead. In a freezer environment we still use fans because stationary cold ambient air doesn't cool the stator enough. What is really important for a motor and gearbox in sub-freezing temps is to have freezer rated bearing grease, gear oil, seals, metal fans, etc., so there isn't pre-mature failure of the unit. When ordering motors and gearboxes this is something the sales rep. can enter so the motor is assembled to the correct operating environment. In short, keep the fan on the motor even in sub-freezing temps.

Thanks for these very interesting video tutorials. I would like to know if it is possible to replace only the brake unit leaving the old motor in use. Thank you.

Hello. Thank you for your question. This video is intended for the mechanical maintenance of the brake discs and not electrical connections or troubleshooting. We do have a video that discusses the electrical items of the brake. It can be found in our video titled: MOVIDRIVE B Training Session 5 - Electrical Components.
The brake information starts at 20 minutes 35 seconds at this video linked here.

If you have a DR. motor model type here is a download link to the Project Planning Manual for BE Brakes. The coil resistance charts start on page 103.

If that manual doesn't show what you're looking for then please download the Operating Instructions for the model type of the motor you have at this link.

2:14 can you explain what that part of the brake is for?

Hello. The lever arm you see before the fan guard cover installs is for the manual brake release. This is an optional add on to mechanically release the brake in scenarios where the brake can't be released electrically with the brake rectifier. If you have a manual brake release it will be shown on the nameplate with "HR" or "HF" after the "BE##" brake nomenclature. At 2:15 you can see the silver arm that is spring clamped to the cooling fins of the motor. This can be removed and threaded into that lever arm through an oval opening in the fan guard to release the brake manually.

Thanks for the feedback Rich. However, a quick test turned up that the link is in fact working properly. The resulting PDF might be fairly large and taking time to display.
