- In this guided application exercise we'll build a bare trainer board, assemble a plug, and motor mount. From these base states we will build many motor control projects.
For those interested in replicating this application exercise here's the parts list from Automation Direct:
72120NP (PLUG 20A 120/250VAC 4-POLE 5-WIRE NEMA L21-20 LOCK BLK/WHT NYLON), BLD (PLUGBOX LOCKOUT 20A & 30A LOCKING PLUGS & CONN RED PLASTIC), FG2 (COVER UNFUSED ALL 75VA & 100VA MLI & MGJ 50VA PRIMARY OR SECONDARY SIDE), FGF2 (COVER FUSED ALL 75VA & 100VA & MLI/ MGJ 50VA PRIMARY OR SECONDARY SIDE), PH100MGJ (TRANSFORMER CONTROL 100VA 380x277x208VAC TO 240x120VAC), SA110-40SL (PB ENC 22mm 4-HOLE GRY 74mm DEEP PLASTIC)

Geez, roasted much? XD
Good stuff. We have used plywood but I hate the wood screws sticking out the back and they tend to be too clumsy ( not as sharp looking). Thanks for the part list!
Any alternative parts for use with a standard household outlet? I don't have that type of receptacle in my garage, unfortunately. Is the an even smaller motor to use in this scenario? Or maybe something similar to practice on?
Stay in touch because I'm eventually going to do a series on single phase AC motors.
Just use the single phase/ split phase coming from youre house.
What is the trade name for this style of components, the terminal blocks, circuit breakers, disconnect switches etc. that connect to the DIN rails? I hate getting the stink eye from the counter guy at the supply house when I don't know the exact name of the items I am trying to buy. Thanks Jim.
Tell me about it. Counter guys have no shortage of stink eye and very often industries have their own trade lingo that is not compatible with one another. "DIN rail mountable" is the term the counter guys is looking for. There's 3 types of DIN rail: top hat, C, and G. The cross sections look exactly like the names imply. There's also mini and wide and deep versions too. These particular components mount to 35mm wide, 7.5mm deep top hat style DIN rails.
