Love Cajou"s black ear tips! Such a pretty boy! Probably sensing things that humans cannot. He does have "horse sense." It was great to watch you calm him. Thank you for taking us along for the ride!
You handled him like a pro! Once a good few years ago I was riding alone on my horse when she suddenly stopped and didn't move forward and then abruptly reared straight up and tried to gallop of. I ended up getting her onto the sand road where she didn't want to go and the road collapsed (it wasn't like a cement road more of a country sand lane) the road fell in and into live a really big stream under it and my horse bless her got up and literally jumped out of the collapsed bank with me still on and then tried to get away from the dangerous collapsed road. We both escaped with minor injuries. Always trust you're horse today I own a 187 cm 4 year old homebred and I've learned to trust him always ❤
he must have seen something, i live in canada so its pretty usual to have bears and i was riding with a group and my horse was very looky, i kept him going and he spooked rlly big, couple minutes later someone said that there was a bear in the area like a week before. always trust your horse
Exactly! There might always be something you didn't notice, I'm pretty sure their instincts won't be wrong. Although there aren't any predators in the area so probably just a rabbit or a deer, maybe a squirrel. But makes sense they assume it's a predator
yeah, my instructor says always trust your horse, cuz they aren’t joking when they stare off in to the distance or react, there is something there even if you can’t see it
You handled it like a pro! Same thing happened to me once. A group of cows came running at us from behind a fence and my pony freaked out. Same reaction with the nose blowing and everything. She was like that the whole way home, even though we were a long way from the cows. I guess it's just their instinct :)
I love Cajou's personality. :) I laughed when he acted spooked in the field, then dipped his head down for some grass like maybe that was his plan all along. ;)
Hi I'm new to your channel. That was very stressful to watch in the beginning...but I have been in exactly the same situation as this where my horse was a complete nightmare to handle. But afterwards I saw you both relaxed and you handled it so well. Poor you so wet in that pouring rain! Well done!!
A good trail ride is like psychotherapy for the horse's mind. Even though they're working it doesn't seem like work. I like how you chatter at him the whole way. It builds his confidence and he knows he can trust you. His ears continually flick back to listen to you. Except for the invisible Boogeyman, the ride was great. Good job.
Definitely a bears in the woods morning. You can't hear what he hears, you don't smell what he smells, so unless you know he pulls these games frequently, you trust your horse.
the reason why your horse stopped, was because, i think, he was listening to the rain coming in. they can hear a lot better than we can. and if he thinks there something in the woods that you cant see, hold on to the reins and let him run. you and your horse have a nice day, until next time bye-bye.
He's being a good scout. He must have caught the scent of something alarming, and then ran the 1/4 mile to “get away from the lion”. The fact that he pooped meant that he was really alarmed. My mare was the best scout, she would stop, snort, stamp her forefeet and then go on. I swear, we never saw a single killer crocodile, killer kangaroo or heffalump on our trail rides - she had scared them all away! Cajou was much calmer after having run that “safe distance”. What a sweet ride he is!
Your amazing with Cajou and your a fantastic rider always reassuring your horse . I am from Ireland and we adore horses. Your so verbal with him and he’s a great listener most of the time. Well done again, we love your posts . 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
In a forest like that, who knows what Cajou was smelling and hearing, but I agree he could have been smelling/feeling/hearing the weather change coming on because you seemed to be up on a hill during that time and scents and noises would have been less muffled. Which do you think is worse while riding a horse, hail or snow turning into rain? Where I live in the Mohave desert, we don't get snow at our elevation, but we do get horrendous flash floods and Moabs/Huge sand storms. Summer is actually our worst season. Beautiful clear skies, but we get up to 127F/53C at the end of July. I'm not warm unless it's 80F/27C, but even I start to think it's hot when it gets to 110F/43C.
Saw the blue flowers on a previous video..was really pretty that's why I wonder where you were..first day of spring and nothing blooming here in canada
I love ponies. Such character. I don't know your pony so I can't say if he's just trying it on or really saw (or smelled) something. My last three ponies were dead honest. but they were ponies, so, a test now and then is to be expected. My Shetland would have made a search and rescue dog check his qualifications. His sense of smell was amazing. He was also very sure of himself and what was "fair." Honestly, we could four-wheel-drive our cart anywhere. He'd plunge into water and then up the side of the creek so steep I had to literally stand in the cart and lean onto his rear for him to make it. But if he decided I was being unfair there was no option but my getting out of the cart and walking with him (arm over his neck) for a bit. We were definitely partners, not master/horse. He backed into a ditch once and I had to get out and crawl under the cart and literally lift it up with my back for him to get it out and he never tried to cheat on that effort one little bit.
Trust him, he knows there is a predator out there.(sorry, just read through a lot of comments & you stated there are not large predatory animals there.) Also i love your sounds you make to get Cajou to trot, run.....brrrrrrrRRR! Lol.
I think it was, and exactly: wind makes other things a lot harder to hear. And well since horses are flight animals, their hearing and smell is what keeps them safe out in the wild. So that's a totally plausible explanation :))
Only seeing more recent video footage, but did you show people how he was tacked up and whether his equipment fits him properly? This can effect a horse's behavior too.
Why do you make those "prrrth" sounds with him when asking him to move forward? Is that just something you've always done, or is there some reason behind it? Love watching these adventures!
When he stops or when he’s tense you stroke him. I guess you’re trying to comfort him but there’s a good chance that he will interpret it as praise for his behaviour so it can be counter-productive.
I don't think it will, cause I only stroke when he's standing or walking rather than trotting tensely and trying to get away ;)) so it's kinda like a combination of trying to comfort him and rewarding him for being so brave :))
He told you rain was coming. I have a horse like this. But he is very hot in his head. Do you feed him any kind of grain? I have a PRE who was like this in the beginning. Then I found he was allergic to grains like wheat, oat etc. then i took him off it and he completely changed into a calmer version. You got a lovely horse 🙂
that's so funny to me when he does that hahahah, on my instagram I posted this video of him and some cows and it was the exact same: breathing like some dragon and nodding his head
@@cajouandco I also ride but I ride western I ride a Tennessee walker gelding his name is Storm. I do lessons on him. Though I might be switching stables and wouldn’t be able to ride him anymore. He has taught me how to trust. How to ride. I can now trot on him without being afraid.

One last question. Do you watch training videos such as Monty Roberts? Those are available on RUclips and may provide some solutions rather than saying that Cajou is freaking out again. Not intended to be mean, but some horses have people problems.

I just love your videos! I love riding along with you. I think the fairies must’ve been in the woods with you and Cajou!
Spring fairies!!
Not sure why your videos are coming up recommended but I love watching you with your horses. And, it’s beautiful there.
I love the constant ear back to check on you!

I don't know how you are not getting confused with all those roads crossing each other 😳 i'd get lost for sure 😂

I go out riding to the Hallerbos Forest in Belgium :))
It's so cool watching you ride you have to be one cool person and your horse to
Beautiful video❤ love cajou

Ya know, I think sometimes they do know something is there.. ya have to wonder if something was around!
I had a gelding like that once. Take him out cold and he would see threats everywhere. Ten minutes of longeing took the edge off of nicely.

You can say that hahaha! Really glad he got to relax a bit afterwards
He thinks somethings following him 😂
He is as cute as a button! His personality is very similar to my mare's. I know you had to be chilled to the bone by the end of the ride.
He did start running like his life depended on it. Did he get into some "horse nip", hehe! He's trippin out!
Awww, bless him, don't think I've ever seen him so spooky
My horse is like that with just tiny black cats lol 🤣
Your creaky saddle❤
Those trails are amazing - what country do you live?
I'm from Belgium
Was it rather windy? That makes horses much more likely to spook since wind makes the hearing less reliable
I think it was, and exactly: wind makes other things a lot harder to hear. And well since horses are flight animals, their hearing and smell is what keeps them safe out in the wild. So that's a totally plausible explanation :))
He probably smells something, do u have bears in your woods where u are? He wouldn't react like that with a rabbit or deer. ❤ Great handling!!
No, we don't have bears, wolves, coyotes or other predators around here. Maybe a boar? But I don't even think they live in the area
😂 I’m wondering too what he smelled❤
hello! I have one thing to ask. how do you find your way back home or get out of the woods? love your videos by the way!
The routes I do are specifically designed for equestrians and are clearly marked, so no chance at getting lost ;))

Why do you make those "prrrth" sounds with him when asking him to move forward? Is that just something you've always done, or is there some reason behind it? Love watching these adventures!
Not really a reason, I just found myself doing it automatically and decided to make it into a command hahah it makes communicating a bit easier
I love it. Never heard it before but kind of calming. Kind of like listening to the birds.

I dream of going to trails like this! Unfortunately I do not own a horse trailer or a car that can pull it 😂
Yeah, I feel so lucky being stalled close to the forest!
He sings MY LITTLE PONY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
This happened to me just last Saturday. My horse totally decentralized me and I was in the arena dirt with my mare looking at me like what happened?
hes all tacked up (horse has no saddle just a neck rope LOL)I just saw your last video saddle no reins
