I purchased this coordinator a while ago but didn't change to it as the thought of reconnecting every device was too daunting, so I was saving it for winter. But after watching your video, I did it this morning, took 20 minutes all in, and everything worked first time. THANK YOU.
Excellent video ! Short and straight to the point. As you and many others, I was a bit wary of re-pairing zigbee devices and checking names and automations. It's so easy thanks to the SMLight. I'll be very interested in the renaming of your zigbee network (I've done that when building it but sometimes you're in a hurry and forget your naming convention...). Thanks again for this short tutorial !
FWIW: I've had good luck improving my Sonoff P-Dongle stability by updating FW (mine was really out of date), changing channel, and using a USB extension cable. My zigbee devices would frequently become unresponsive (but devices still show connected via Z2M), unless I physically unplugged/plugged back in the coordinator.
Did I brick my stick ? I mistakenly pasted the IEEE i got from existing dongle the 0x IEEE and did not modify to omit the 0x or add colons between pairs but the Flash proceeded. My now current IEEE is as 0x string !
Some total random question but i have copied you're Dashboard and i can see you have a reminder for when the garbage truck is coming. Does your town have an app for that or did you do everything yourself? Super videos by the way
I was trying to get them working too. Did to a point but it does not show me that the next type of pickup is only in how many days. There are some sensors that I'm not sure about I guess we need to wait till there is a video for that to shine some light on.
@@My_Smart_Home i got it partly working with your dashboard code ill wait for a video about the garbage collection from you and might get it to work properly. it only displays the days but it does not display the actual next garbage item to be picked up. I am guessing you have some templates or sensor setup i don't know how to
Can you confirm that the 06p7 version works as a Matter over Thread Border Router? The smlight website specifies the 06m version but never the 06p7 version specifically from what I can find.
@@My_Smart_Home Thanks. Cloud free confirmed the 06p7 MoT is experimental and recommended using the 06m variant for Matter but said they both should work fine with the 06m being more stable.
@@My_Smart_Home yeah same but was just wondering if it had anything better then the older deconz stick. I have it running for 3 years now with 25 devices. So it its beneficial its now easy to migrate :)
Interesting, i'm running ZHA on my sonof dongle and was thinking of switching to mqtt for the configurability. I havent had issues with zha but my setup is very small
They use different Zigbee chips. Apparently P7 has better support in z2m while M have better support in ZHA. Its similar to Sonoff dongle E and P if you are familiar with those.
I also had problems with the sonoff zigbee, but i decide to wait for a new dongle. - upgrade to version 7.4.4 - switch within mqtt to ember at the moment it is working since 3 weeks perfekt. maybe this is also a solution
@@My_Smart_Home This is a new driver on the dongle. It comes with version 7.4.x and then you can switch in the configuration from mqtt adapter: ezsp to ember. With version 7.4.3 i had also the same problems as you told in the video, but with version 7.4.4 the devices response every time. 🙂
As a note, some unmanaged switches do have issues with the Ethernet chip in the SLZB-06 series. In this case WiFi or USB may be an option. Changing the IEEE address is NOT needed at all. Zigbee database is locally stored, not stored on the Co-Ordinator. I would highly recommend not changing the IEEE address unless you want issues in the future. The M version is the SiLabs chip, and this does work in Zigbee2MQTT, but is still classed as experimental. There are much better tutorials around than this one, and ones that use REAL people and not fake voices. Sorry if you were real, but it sounded very fake due to whatever processing was done. There is defintiely advice that is not the best practice in this video
When I first switched coordinator without updating the IEEE number my Hue devices wasn't working and came up offline. This was a problem for me because I don't have a way of re-pairing my Hue bulbs (my Hue button thing is broken). So I tried changing the IEEE number, and strait away my Hue devices came back online, so I thought for sure it had something to do with the IEEE number. What kind of issues can I expect in the future? Your comment is a bit harsh with a "I'm better than you" kind of undertone. It doesn't affect me, but just so you know, these kind of comments can weaken motivation for smaller creators. This is from the zigbee2mqtt documentation: "When migrating from one stick to another it is important that the new stick uses the same ieee address as the old stick. Some devices lookup the coordinator by its ieee address, this fails when the ieee address of the coordinator changes." www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/adapters/flashing/copy_ieeaddr.html
I read that it is only this simple if your previous dongle had also had a texas Instruments chip, my current dongle is a conbee ii, so im afraid i have to repair everything 😵💫🫣

Thanks :) I was worried, but for no reason!
I did this about a month back and it’s the best thing I have done since starting with Home Assistant. Super simple and works fantastic.
Awesome!!
how well would you say it improved your zigbee network?
Great video!
Cheers! Thanks for watching!

What channel did you change to? And did you have to re-pair?
@@My_Smart_Home Switched from channel 11 to 20. I only have 5 zigbee devices-- did not have to re-pair any of them
I can recommend the Unifi Dream Machine SE or newer 👍

Do you know if the old Sonoff can be used as an router with this one new?
It can, but you need to flash it with. There are addons for HA that is really easy to use

which device did you use before?
Sonoff
How would be the change with ZHA? Can I use a remote coordinator as well?

Currently still on my deconz stick with 20 devices, is it better to switch to this together with Z2MQTT?
Not sure if I would switch if it was working nicely for me

Hmm ok, that makes a lot of sense. SMlight have a few different options so you might be using one of the other coordinators.
