Little story time. Back when Jodie Whittaker took over the role of the Doctor I did a search for "Dr Who Sucks" and that's how I found Gary/Nerdrotic. True story. Watching Gary has saved me seasons of agony now and I'm thankful.
Sad part is that even if they got the worst actor of all time to play the lead it could still have worked if they had just hired a writer that was able to write something that did not actively seek to destroy the IP but no they had to have bad actors, bad writers and an agenda that sought out to utterly destroy DR who forever

Much like how I feel about Terminator, Star Wars, even Bionicle, I think that the people in charge of Doctor Who are sitting on a GOLD MINE. There's a lot they could bring back, and a lot of cool original stuff they can do. Personally, I think the Osirans can easily come back (not Sutekh because he is DEAD and that should remain the case), maybe introduce an antagonistic Osiran based on something like Apophis or Ammit, and perhaps tie it in with Gus from the Mummy on the Orient Express, explain the war mentioned in that story, and cool stuff will ensue. I can imagine a whole movie about the young First Doctor going to the Academy, maybe being involved with the Cloister Wars or the War Against the Great Vampires, anything cool like that, meeting the Master, etc. Doctor Who doesn't have to change drastically, just adapt to a higher effects budget and fun can be had by all.
Doctor Who has become like watching a victim get tortured to death and bleed out, while the torturer sticks a band aid on the gushing open wounds and expecting the victim to live.

The Curator was a neat Easter Egg and hint at future possibilities, but having Tennant return reeks of desperation, even if we all love him. It would be the same as if they brought back Iron Man in some upcoming MCU project, even if via time travel or the multiverse (which are just as established as the existence of the Curator). The existence of means to bring back a character is not justification alone to do whatever you want. They could easily have brought Tennant back like he had been for the 50th Anniversary. But, doing it this way makes him the main character, the primary agent of the drama. This is deliberate because this was the only way to get people excited for a 60th anniversary after everything that had come out since 2018 (and arguably 2017).
At this point, seeing Tennant as The Doctor would be more heartbreak than celebration. I'm not going to bother with this. Maybe if I hear good things about it, I'll watch it later on. But I'll definitely be watching for Gary and Az's takes on it.
Noone more marginalised than the people who because of their skin colour and gender we arnt allowed to see on screen anymore or even depicted as a family
White Males are the marginalized. Top S&P 100 companies hired 300k people last year. 6% were white. 70% of the country is white, and only 6% hired. Bloomberg, that covered this news, celebrated these numbers.
The Star Beast is one of the most warmly remembered comic strips from when DWM was a weekly, back in 1980. So it's a solid foundation to build the first of the three specials on.
Russel T Davies is no more a savior than feloni and Favreu are with Star Wars. This is the same mistake made with picard, people will claim its black pilled but MAYBE the aneversery special will be ok, passable, or even meh, but in the end its too little to late. I remember watching that live stream, and at the exact "oh fuckkk" moment when we started hearing "they are an alien" I had the exact same reaction as you. And when Ncuti started saying "It's about identity" all my joy just faded.
They’ve referenced the fact the doctor can regenerate into different sexes since NuWho though, they’ve done it multiple times. I don’t like chibnalls writing either but I don’t understand this criticism. Galifreyans don’t have the same biology as humans clearly. Like how does it make sense for you that the doctor can vary in age but skin colour and physical sex is where the line is drawn? As long as the actor is sold along with the scripts it should be a non issue.
@@codeCSx no one here is saying he can’t be a different color upon regeneration, I’m sure that most fans (myself included) would be fine with that. But let’s not pretend that sex-swapping upon regeneration makes any sense. The sexes are inherently different, down to such important things as skeletal structure and the patterns of thought the brain tends to take. Time lords may be aliens, but they are particularly humanoid. They’re also established to have male/female reproduction. What sense would it make if after a few years, little timelord’s mom becomes his dad? What if a pregnant female regenerates, but this time into a male? Would her baby die? That makes no sense from a biological standpoint. There has to be some believability to any character, even aliens. A character that can regenerate every so often into someone completely opposite who he was before, making him into a a completely different kind of person functionally, makes for a very senseless and confusing character indeed. I say go ahead and make a black doctor or whatever you want, but he should at least have stayed male.
@@mahfuzurchowdhury2765no, it’s not. What does regeneration have to do with the doctor’s identity. His face changes, but he’s still the same person with the same memories.
Saw an Instagram post showing Ncuti Gatwa on location wearinng a kilt, vest and leather jacket. People were suggesting it could be Dr Who filming, but might not be. Either way, the comments were all "i know it's a kilt but i can't believe we are finally seeing a queer Doctor in a skirt." THAT is the mentality of Dr Who fans now. THAT is the audience the show is aimed at. The same people who would say you're racist for wearing a sombrero are fine with telling me that "a kilt is literally a skirt" as long as it fits their queer persepctive.
For the 50th Anniversary some friends and I had a big house party with a projector in the back yard, hired a trock band, spent a shitload of money on food and booze. Great fun. Everyone that I know that went to that party stopped watching it years ago. We don't even talk about it anymore, it just makes shit weird and awkward, like we're embarrassed to ever have liked it. Sometimes I go back and watch Blink though, but on the quiet sneaky like when I used to smoke pot in my dad's garage.
nah man that's killer good times and good memories for you. I identify with your story. I was an exchange student in Japan at the time. I reserved the party room at the International House (the dorm for exchange students) and a few of us watched it via a projector on the wall. There was food and drinks. I remember making cocktails for everyone. Now, I can't be arsed to care about Doctor Who. But that's a good memory from 10 years ago, for both of us, mate!
NGL, the 50th Anniversary special "Day of the Doctor" is my favorite episode. Well, that and the 3-parter "Turn Left"/"Stolen Earth"/"Journey's End" (also b/c Donna is my most favorite companion). But I won't be watching the 60th Anniversary. I'll just watch Gary's autopsy of it.
@@darthgorbag That's so fricking weird. "So here's this thing I've decided I dislike, so I'm not going to watch it because it no longer interests me, but I will instead watch someone else who watched it tell me why it was bad." Utter balls, dude. You're totally watching it.
it just doesn't matter... The Doctor is not a Time Lord... Not from Gallafrey... He has unlimited regenerations (how did the Time Lords give him more if he is who gave them the power in the first place?) So no reason to ever watch this show again. I guess at least Chris Chibnal will at least be able to tell his grandkids that he single-handedly killed a show that had lasted for 60 years. What an acheivement!

You guys are more forgiving snd curious than I. I'm out with Dr. Who. They went too far with the show's ruination as with Star Wars, Star Trek, Indie, etc. It's kinda sad that I'm not even curious about it enough to give it a view.
@@Bjamin9891 it is indeed. I still remember seeing several of the movies in the theater back in the day, going out if my mind with excitement when the family got a vcr and those movies were made available...then later to dvd. Now I just treasure the ones I have and ignore any of the rubbish that's put out today. It's incomprehensible how those people ruined so many beloved works and they now whine and bit** how they lost the paying public who gave the older works their status in the first place. Seems to be it would be easy to carry those characters and franchises forwards. Hollywood is dead to me now. Since I'm such an istophobe anyway, that content isn't made for me. They need to scream at those they pander to pony up the money they need to stay in business rather than scream at us for not supporting content that's not made for us. And yes, LotR definitely makes the list.
I'm looking back, trying to find the moment they killed _Doctor Who,_ and it's difficult, because while there are good episodes in Capaldi's run (especially the first episodes), there are also huge stinkers. The moment I keep coming back to though is _Kill the Moon._ That was their "jump the shark" moment, and everything else was the show bleeding out from the mortal wound. Them shitting on the First Doctor in _Twice Upon a Time_ is when it was fully and completely dead, with Jodie Wittaker's run them letting Chibnall _Weekend at Bernie's_ the franchise, and _The Timeless Child_ was the final desecration of the corpse.
For me the fall began with Missy (Deep Breath) being the Master, then doubling on that in Hell Bent when the General regenerated in a woman, then the Pilot. It was all through Capaldi's run but brought in on a slow burn before raging in the Whittaker era. As soon as they started messing with that, it was only matter of time before doing it to the main character - and here we are.
I checked out before Capaldi was even done. I mean, it was already going downhill in Smith's era, but the wokeness was just unwatchable in Capaldi's. Which sucks, because I think he could have been a great Doctor. And he was, as far as that goes.
Saaaame. I liked a few episodes in Capaldi’s first season, I liked a few moments from other episodes, but it was kinda painfully bad. It wasn’t Capaldi himself, he did a great job (I liked an older & more mature take on the character) but the writing was just so, so bad. I didn’t like the structure change in the second Capaldi season, but when they tried to replace Captain Jack Harkness as the only truly immortal character with some dumb girl that Capaldi saved on purpose or something, that’s when I checked out.
@@StarWarsomaniaYou’re referencing Ashildr played by Maisie Williams an incredibly popular actress (even more so at the time due to game of thrones) and that whole story arc was pretty great. Captain Jack wasn’t “replaced” Jack isn’t even immortal he’s the face of boe. Technically dead but due to ageing process the doctor could travel vastly in time and sure maybe still be able to meet up? Also when did they ever say he was the only “immortal” character? That was never a thing.
I stopped watching Doctor Who after the timeless child, despite it being my all-time favourite show. With the 60th coming in over 2 month I still have zero emotions to a point that I keep forgetting that it was the 60th this year.
@@AnarchyThirtySeven In the past 5 years nearly every franchise I loved has been bastardized DW, SW, LOTR,WITCHER, ST, GOT to a point that I'm numb to it all and just don't care anymore.
I gave up during Sylvester McCoy’s time, but viewed some of the early new stories and others that got my attention. What really put me off, Jodie’s tenure aside, was how quickly the ‘clever’ culture references would age. The representation (said in Gary’s manner) didn’t help, either.

The show could get better, it could even be better than it's been in years, but that won't necessarily guarantee its success. Just look at what happened in the last two seasons of the original series: they made a huge change in direction for the series and the show was better than it had been in years. In the end, however, it wasn't enough to drum up enough interest and it ended up being cancelled.

When I saw who was playing "Rose" and more importantly why I realized that Dr Who wasn't returning. Why can we not allow women to play women anymore? Why is there such hostility towards women that men are allowed to take their roles simply by declaring themselves to be a transwoman.
Both actress and character are trans. Eddie Redmayne in the Danish Girl proved sometimes its better to find someone of the actual identity to play a certain character (like characters of color). Plus Russell could've picked from sooo many actors and actresses Why Yasmin Finnay? It could've been anyone. And plus, the majority is men are still playing male characters and women are still playing female characters. Chill out.

Honestly, I wasn’t too surprised Russell went this way. His later episodes with Donna did have some of this shit. Like when they spent a two parter belittling UNIT for trying to defend themselves and then the very next episode Donna kills a young alien and shrugs it off. He definitely had this preachy side. He’s just allowed to let it loose now.

Doctor who used to get me so excited and following HIM was such a delight, even into the Peter capaldi era I was rooting for him. They absolutely destroyed that character and a retcon of the timeless children is the only way to fix it. Not just ignoring it but erasing it.
@@mahfuzurchowdhury2765 That I didn't mind but it does show a contradiction in the Canon. If he is half human how can be be whatever the Timeless Child was? Still getting rid of the Timeless Child.
@@jamesms4 I think 2765's point was that they *did* just ignore it entirely, going forward, rather than explicitly erasing or undoing it. Of course, that whole thing stemmed from a throwaway bit of business in the TV movie, and could fairly easily be dismissed as another case of "the Doctor lies" to confuse his opponents and mess with their heads, too. The "timeless child" junk being a running theme through a whole season is going to be a bit difficult to just ignore or explain away.
@@ballyastrocade5672 I dinnae care how lame the explanation they come up with is as long as they get rid of it. But I guess that won't happen? Doesn't matter. Dr Who is deid to me now.

I'm not gonna lie, I agree with you guys, the Toymaker seems extremely well casted. Guy looks cool as shit. I only wish they'd have introduced him like this during a better time in the franchise. Like, 10 years ago maybe
I want to write the last four or so years of the show off as a bad dream and now we're getting it back. You're right that The Timeless Child nonsense has wounded the show, and has done badly. Personally though I have a head cannon that fixes this. The Master lied. Think about it, he accessed the MATRIX and spun this story out of old legends and half forgotten myths then had it discovered by the Time lords. This "Hidden True History" so soon after the Time War sends the planet into turmoil. People demanding answers as to if it's true but no body can prove it one way or the other. Into this chaos the Master steps in and kicks off a civil war. Galifrey burns at his hand. He then tries the same trick on the Doctor. To me it's all a big con and I really, REALLY hope we get to see the Master again. Just so we get a throwaway line the reveals this as what happened. That said I will share something with you here. On the BBC this trailer came up before Strictly Come Dancing (Dancing with the Stars in the US). She sent me an email about it. She was NEVER a fan of Jodie, saw about two minutes of her and described their performance as "Too week and needy". Her email this last Saturday basically read "Looks good, you should see it" It may take some time, but we will get good Who again and time heals all wounds. even this one!
The Timeless Child is open to interpretation according to the new Doctor Who manual. If your friend thinks Jodie just wasn't as angry as the Doctor, then i guess vulnerability even if you can't help it doesn't exist in their vocabulary. Protagonists showing times of vulnerability, which is mainly what Thirteen is, is important for a character such as the Doctor. The Doctor has lost so much, have been broken before, and it takes a while to get up again. (Ten and Rose and Martha, Eleven and the Ponds and Clara) And frankly, in the Timeless Children, the Haunting of Villa Diodati, Resolution, Nikolas Tesla's Night of Terror and Once Upon Time actually shows that Thirteen can be angry. If your friend wants eyecandy.
Watching these videos is my only interest in DW now. No matter how good it is, unless they write out everything that came after Capaldi I won't be back and I understand that won't happen.
I won't watch it, even though Tennant is my favorite new Who and I always liked Donna....I won't be catfished into getting involved only to be gut punched again. "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me."
This is whole exercise of bringing back Tenant’s Doctor and Donna is akin to an inmate sentenced to death that is allowed one weekend of indulgence in Las Vegas. The best food, the best drink, and the best women. It doesn’t matter because come Monday, he has a date with the electric chair. I see no joy in this because it will eventually lead to Doctor Marginalized wether we like it or not.
If they wanted a female time lord so badly they just needed to pull Romana from E-Space along with K9 and have her regenerate and have a season of her looking for the doctor and maybe meeting some early versions of him. Then spin her off into her own thing if it worked. They can fix the broken origin of the Doctor but they dont have a will to do so. It does not just break him it breaks the Time Lords and their entire history including the Time War that the 50th revolved around.
It doesn't really effect the Time War to be honest. If anything, the 50th effected the established cannon of the Time War more than anything, unfortunately. I'm just glad it's looking like they're gonna ignore the Timeless Child, and us grown ups can move on from it, just like we did with the "Doctor is half human" bs
It's just pettiness isn't it? They talk about how they needed a female star of the show, conveniently forgetting that there has been a female costar of the show constantly for 60 years. Even when there was a male companion it was only ever in addition to a female companion. Plus when the show began in 1963 and restarted in 2005 the female companion was intended as an equal lead of the show. But yeah, we need a female Master, female Doctor, female Brigadier, female scientific advisor, female soldiers because women were so marginalised on the show. As always it is people who have never watched the series who have second hand opinions of it being old and sexist, so needs to be fixed.
At _best_ this is a Picard Season 3 brief fanservice anomaly. But there's no keys jangly enough, or berries memberry enough, to tempt me back for a "Somehow, Donna's memories returned" retcon.
Just got a 31 disc set of Dr Who, from Eccleston to Capaldi, with all their episodes for 50 bucks from Walmart. My only complaint is there is no episode list and I don’t know if the movie specials are included in this box set yet, but I think this is a good deal from Walmart. Whittaker has her own box set too for 40 bucks but I will not get that one for obviously reasons.
They murdered DW and they know it. They are bringing back our favorites - for what 3 episodes? Then expect us to stick around for the new guy. That probably wont happen. At least with me it wont. I'll watch Donna and Ten and dip again. Watch Az or Gary spiral into insanity watching it instead because thats way more entertaining.
The betrayal of the last doctor being so useless that she required a cohort of companions, took us from a dedicated viewers to completely abandoning a loved show. When the agenda pile-driving became core and sci-fi basically disappeared, we surrendered that we would not be witness to the deconstruction of something brilliant. Great trailer or not -- they cannot be trusted, and if Disney has anything to do with the franchise, they noone with a mustard seed of conscience should watch this show. Stop giving Disney and their agendas any money at all.
"We can't just make Dr Who a woman for 3 years because fans will just skip it. We must retcon entire caracter so fans will skip it and everything after that"
It's the same arrogant "let's give them an all or nothing ultimatum that will force them to accept it" that the MCU has been adopting as well. It never once crosses their minds that the audience will say "no thanks" and simply walk away.
I remember being at a con back in 2014 where some girls I ran into had driven overnight, from out of state, with VIP tickets that had cost like $500, all so they could have lunch with David Tennent. Unfortunately, it’s that level of Tumblr crazy that killed this show

You know how Doctor Who show is desperate when it brought back David Tenant as The Doctor once again after regeneration.
*Tennant*
Right, because this totally hadn't been foreshadowed at all in the 50th anniversary with the existence of the Curator, right?
Right right, cause Patrick Troughton came back in Classic Who
Three times.
And Tom Baker was the Doctor for the LONGEST time.
A lot of people called it years ago. Doctor Who are on their Star Wars desperation arc.
At this point, seeing Tennant as The Doctor would be more heartbreak than celebration. I'm not going to bother with this. Maybe if I hear good things about it, I'll watch it later on. But I'll definitely be watching for Gary and Az's takes on it.

White Males are the marginalized. Top S&P 100 companies hired 300k people last year. 6% were white. 70% of the country is white, and only 6% hired.

David tennant is a great Doctor but i think we all knkw what comes next.

I remember watching that live stream, and at the exact "oh fuckkk" moment when we started hearing "they are an alien" I had the exact same reaction as you. And when Ncuti started saying "It's about identity" all my joy just faded.
It is about identity though. Regeneration is literally that!
And yes the Doctor is an alien
AND if you hate the pronouns so much, just say the name
Takes 1 second

"thats no moon! thats some giant BS creatures egg!"
As bad as those parts are I think the timeless child is the ultimate point of no return.
I’m like you but I have anger & hatred towards the BBC for bastardizing my absolute favorite show. I just can’t watch it anymore. It hurts to much.

The beginning of the end for Dr. Who was Smiths final season.

When I saw who was playing "Rose" and more importantly why I realized that Dr Who wasn't returning. Why can we not allow women to play women anymore? Why is there such hostility towards women that men are allowed to take their roles simply by declaring themselves to be a transwoman.
short answer: because they want to normalize it and they are pushing an angenda. it is called propaganda
Because RTD

And plus, the majority is men are still playing male characters and women are still playing female characters.

Of course, that whole thing stemmed from a throwaway bit of business in the TV movie, and could fairly easily be dismissed as another case of "the Doctor lies" to confuse his opponents and mess with their heads, too.
Her email this last Saturday basically read "Looks good, you should see it"
It may take some time, but we will get good Who again and time heals all wounds. even this one!
I'm so sorry for your loss. But no.
(Ten and Rose and Martha, Eleven and the Ponds and Clara)
And frankly, in the Timeless Children, the Haunting of Villa Diodati, Resolution, Nikolas Tesla's Night of Terror and Once Upon Time actually shows that Thirteen can be angry.
If your friend wants eyecandy.
Watching these videos is my only interest in DW now. No matter how good it is, unless they write out everything that came after Capaldi I won't be back and I understand that won't happen.

That little alien is literally a copy of baby Yoda.
“The Master lied” there, fixed. Just make it out that the Master implanted false memories or some such.

Whittaker has her own box set too for 40 bucks but I will not get that one for obviously reasons.
