    I think when he was talking about the seasons in other counties, for some reason some countries don't have their seasons but the month, but start the season mid month
    Seasons of the year in the United Kingdom - Calendar
    Spring. Spring starts on March 20 or 21 and lasts until June 20 or 21 . The first day of spring happens on the spring equinox, which marks the astronomical beginning of spring.
    Summer. Summer lasts from June 20 or 21 until September 22 or 23 , which places it between spring and autumn. This is the warmest of the seasons, where the temperature rises, and there are more hours of daylight, the days are longer than the nights.
    autumn. Autumn begins on September 22 or 23 and ends on December 21 or 22 . During this season, temperatures start dropping, and the nights start getting longer again.
    Winter. Winter starts on December 21 or 22, and lasts through to March 20 or 21 , falling right

    Brisbanite here. Winter in Brisbane is still cold. Especially in the mornings at dawn. Frost is common in the western suburbs and tomorrow's forecast is just 8c to 19c. Not really beach weather. I use to head for Mackay, Townsville or Cairns to get a real tropical winter of 10c to 26c. Weipa was 32c in mid July! Ross is a high school English teacher so 'but' at the end of a sentence is discouraged. I am guilty of formerly inflecting at the end of a sentence to sound like a question. A lot of Australians still do. Gladys Berejiklian is one prominent Australian who still does. When I did my TEFL course I was taught not to inflect at the end of each sentence unless it actually was a question.

    I’ve heard recently that the new UK government are unwilling to build new prisons, so they will release existing prisoners that have served 40% of their time so they accept new prisoners and reduce overcrowding. So I think there is more of a difference between British and Australian crime or there will be going forward.
    Qualifications - I think in other countries you can be accepted to a job even if you’re not properly qualified for it; which Australia doesn’t allow.
    Migration - I support Australia being tough on migration. I wish the US and Europe would have more self respect on their migration programs, esp illegal immigration.
    I need to pull you up on the weather. If you need to wait another two months from the start of Spring in Tasmania to get some decent weather, well in England you need to wait three months. Some years, the English will complain about their lack of regular warm weather even in the middle of July, half way thru their summer. Tasmanian cold weather doesn’t compare to European cold weather.

    • @CheekyKoala
      @CheekyKoala  3 месяца назад

      Australia is starting to have significant issues with overcrowding in jails, I can see them looking at the UK & deciding to follow their policies- after all they did that with education….
      True about qualifications!
      Tassie doesn’t get as cold as many parts of the UK, but as for spring & summer: you probably get less than a dozen days of each - you’ll get 2 or 3 nice days (if you’re lucky) & then the weather turns nasty again! You don’t exactly have a summer & winter wardrobe, because you still need long trousers, jumpers & thermals throughout the entire year! When I lived in Tassie, I owned 2 pairs of shorts - & the only reason I had 2 was because otherwise I’d get bored with the one pair that I had- for the most part, you’d be able to wear your shorts & then wash them and have them clean & fresh long before the next hot day 😂😂

    Immigration is such a touchy subject but basically there needs to be a requirement for working in the country not the city where the demand for property is so high.. There’s too many wealthy immigrants who buy their way into the country. Until recently a foreigner could spend $5M in Australia and could become a citizen while only spending 40 days in the country. That was preposterous and now thankfully the policy has been stopped. There’s many older Asians in particular who have used this loophole? to reside here while supporting children and grandchildren in education and subsequently employment. While it’s only part of the issue of investing in Australian property, it’s a major reason why it is so unaffordable for so many.
    4 times more unaffordable than 30 years ago.
    There are so many young couples that deserve a home in Australia especially with the right qualifications but the priorities are not in the right place. Hopefully there’ll be more requirements in other industries for mandatory country placements as for international medical graduates who are now mostly Chinese and Indians…but that’s another subject altogether.

    • @CheekyKoala
      @CheekyKoala  3 месяца назад

      Yep! I was watching “kinda Australian” and for katelyn to get her citizenship as a partner/ spouse of an Australian, it was more expensive than for someone who was coming into the country with money! There definitely needs to be a priority for those regional areas that are in need of skilled migrants!

    • @LesGray-i9p

      @@CheekyKoala Yes Kaitlyn is great ‘value’. Very open and honest and it’s been a tough road for her and her partner. As usual, money talks and all government bodies just grab it.
      It’s really unfair for so many young adult internationals from the US and Europe in particular with so much to offer but her situation and where she lives (in western Sydney) is the problem.
      That’s the issue too many want to live where there’s most to offer. In the cities. Most wouldn’t be used to living in the bush so to speak. Unfortunately, I think it needs to be a mandate for immigration now (to live in the country). It will dissuade many but I believe it’s the only way to control property prices at least in part. There also needs to be wide ranging international property investment restrictions in cities. There’s just far too much foreign capital investment in Australia making real estate far too expensive especially in Sydney and Melbourne. It’s still relatively affordable in some parts of Adelaide, Perth and Hobart but even Brisbane is getting more expensive now though there are good pockets near the hills and coast. The problem is and will continue to be foreigners particularly Chinese who are and will continue to use new residents to purchase multiple properties for families and investment. That’s very prominent in areas near good education areas. Top schools and particularly Universities who can’t help themselves with the deluge of international capital from rich foreigners. The institutions ‘feast’ on billions of capital. They can’t help themselves. It’s a huge problem. It’s dicy territory but it deprives Australians of opportunity in tertiary education and jobs in particular. That’s totally unfair as Australians needs to be the priority and that’s the issue with unrestricted immigration. Opportunities are lost for Australian citizens. It’s a real conundrum.
      Give opportunities for immigrants particularly young ones but not deprive Australian born citizens of opportunities. Controversial to say the least.

    • @CheekyKoala
      @CheekyKoala  3 месяца назад

      Yep! I think you hit the nail on the head here! I agree, migrants should be willing to move to regional areas where particular skill sets are needed. I also have concerns about the amount of overseas ownership of properties throughout Australia. Look at our current housing crisis, the government needs to overhaul the whole system!

    I have a problem with, 'That Johnston Life'. He comes across like he is an emigration agent to me.
    What is behind having qualifications is that all employees know how to do a job safely. However, it also puts a lot of pressure on the employees, because they are supposed to be able to do the job and anything that goes wrong, they will be held responsible for it - not the employers. There has been a number of workplace court cases and I think the outcome for all of them, has been, the employers are still responsible for workplace safety.
